Grief
Facade~ True beauty fanfic
"I am going Ms.Choi!" I announced as I wore my shoes and went out.
"Be safe!!" She shouted back as I ran for my bus stop.
Luckily, I got the proper seat to sit at and then plugged in my earphone to enjoy the song while gazing outside.
Once the bus reached the school, I got down and made my way inside the school.
But my calm and normal day was interrupted when a wailing Jukyung stuck to me. She hugged me so sudden that my breath hitched as I struggled to get away.
"Yah! I can't breath!!"
"Oh! Sorry..." Jukyung muttered as her face was contorted in anxiety. She spoke in a her low soft tone as she gazed at me with hopeful eyes.
Which actually, made me narrow mine.
"You need my help...?" I queried as I knew that look very well. Her face brightened as she made her gums visible while grinning.
"You are friends with Han Seo Jun. Can you please give this to him?"
She handed me a folded paper with a sheepish grin making me frown.
"In the whole school full of good looking boys, you chose him?" My look of disdain made her eyes widen.
"It's not a love letter!! It's an apology letter. My brother sold his helmet." She spoke as her eyes widen even more when she looked behind me.
And I gulped when I heard her say that.
She hastily turned on her heels and ran away.
"Yah! Imjoo-yah! I never said I was friends with him!!" I was about to follow her figure but I heard familiar laughter behind me.
That's the sound of very Mr.Han itself.
Well, if he is here I should just hand it to him. I am not going to look for him in school anyway.
I looked to my right to see him conversing with his group of friends.
"Han Seo Jun." Hearing his name, he met my gaze as I walked towards him.
I didn't say anything and just handed him the folded paper.
"My condolences. " I said under my breath as I was itching to leave.
"What is this?" He asked while giving me a perplexed look as I avoided his gaze.
He is gonna have a mini heart attack after reading that.
"You could just read it." I didn't waited for another moment as I also made my way back in the school with fast footsteps. I heard them shouting something out loud but ignored that.
Imjoo, I hope best for you.
Seojun looked at the paper in wonder as his friends around him kept hooting about it being a 'love letter'. He held the paper and styled his hair out of attitude.
Seojun smirked as he thought that you fell for his charm too but his so haughty half smile wiped out from his face once he saw what was written in that letter.
His face turned into one if disbelief as he gasped like a fish.
"Let me read it!!"
Seojun put the paper away as he fumed with anger.
I had separate subject so I was not with them in the class. As the time passed, my stomach was craving for food even more.
As soon as the bell rang, I didn't think twice before I marched towards the cafeteria.
I took my tray of food and sat on the table. Soon I saw Jukyung came in with a smile on her face but soon vanished when she looked in her phone.
And from there, she went back from the cafeteria to somewhere.
I stopped mid bite as I stared at her retreating figure.
"Is someone bothering her?" I whispered under my breath as I looked around.
I took my last bite and then marched out of the room just to see Soo-jin and Sua standing there.
"She is acting weird." I heard Soo-jin say as I spoke up.
"I know right." They let out a scream and looked at me in a utter shock.
"Hey...I am not that scary." I crossed my arms while giving them an offended look as Sua hit my arm.
"Don't appear out of nowhere!" I chuckled at their looks.
"Don't you think Jukyung is frequently looking anxious. " I commented earning a nod from both of them.
"I think someone is bothering her. And I know who." Soo-jin said as she began to walk downstairs. I raised a brow and decided to follow her.
Sua went to his boyfriend to ask for any details.
Soo-jin walked down quite fast that I wasn't able to catch up to her but I still tried. I once again felt being grabbed in a bone crushing hug, feeling my lungs clench.
"I can't breath..." I muttered out as I felt myself able to breath again. My gaze went to the one who grabbed me and was met with wailing look of Jukyung.
"Y/N-ahhhhhh..." She whined as she looked at me making me frown.
"What happened? Is someone bothering you? Wh-"
"No one!...I need you to teach me hwo to sing!" She exclaimed making me dumbfounded by her claim.
"Singing...? Me..? If you match my singing to a Zombies moan then they would sound similar. "
Silence followed.
It is what it is.
"You have such a beautiful voice! Of course you can sing!" She grabbed onto me more while begging me to teach her.
"I need to participate in the audition! Please Y/N-ieeee....."
"Okay okay! I can't teach you how to sing but I can help you with dance."
I said hesitantly but her face brightened immediately.
"Really!?" She asked with a cheeky smile and I gave her a nod.
"Thank you!!!!" She came in for a hug again as I backed off with a fearful look.
"Sorry I need to breath." She laughed and grabbed onto my arm.
Damn...she is a child. She must be protected at all cost.
"Say imjoo, why do you wanna participate?" I asked and suddenly felt her go stiff.
"Cause I want to so badly!" She said but I was still suspicious that someone was forcing her.
"If something bothers you, don't hesitate to tell me okay?" I looked at her with concern as she gazed at me with shimmering eyes.
Shimmering with hope.
That moment, Jukyung wanted to tell her everything she felt. Everything she hid but she couldn't. Years of being bullied stopped her. You were popular, good in studies, even kind on the top of all.
What would be your reaction if you find that she is just a girl that doesn't match any of the high standards.
"When should we start?" This brought Jukyung out of her thoughts.
"Your free period?" She asked and I took out my time table to look at my free classes.
Fortunately, two of our free classes match because English teacher was absent.
"Meet you downstairs in dance class soon." I said as I began to walk towards my class.
Jukyung now knew why Soo-ho wanted to know you better. He has been constantly asking her about you, she didn't wanted to give away anything personal but Soo-ho knew her secret.
A secret that she couldn't let out. So she had to obey. Jukyung had to obey whatever he commanded.
You are a kind personality despite your cold attitude towards others and now she knew that very well.
The bell rang and we met in the class room for the practice.
"It's Tomorrow!!" I said with an exasperated sigh as Junyung wailed for the 100th time.
"I am doomed....."
"Ah! Ah! Rise up my warrior! You need to fight cause warriors don't fear the war."
I tried to lighten her mood as she listened to me carefully and stood up.
"You are right! Failure comes to those who fear. I must work hard."
She is really a damn kid. But I find that utterly cute.
I suppressed the thought of coo-eing her and again began to tell her about dance.
"You need to focus on the expressions too! We could never copy The Oueen Hwa Sa's expression but still try!" I beckoned her as she tried to put on a face that matched the rhythm.
"That's what I am talking about!" I encouraged her as she kept dancing with fluent steps.
Damn...I feel like a proud mother.
"That was absolutely amazing!! You are gonna nail it!!" She gave me a toothy grin and hugged me while thanking me.
"You are good at dance too, why aren't you participating?" She asked once she broke the hug. I gave her a straight look as I answered.
"Two simple words: Not interested. " She gave me a look of understanding then grinned once again.
"I hope the best for you! You will nail it!" I patter her shoulder and we departed from school once the bell rang.
After the bus dropped me to my house, my phone goes off with a notification.
The beautiesâ¡
Sua:
Should we go out somewhere today?
Soojin:
I have to check my study schedule.
Y/N
I am tired as hell. Gonna sleep this one out.
Where is Jukyung Btw?
Sua:
I didn't talk to her after school go over.
Maybe she was tired too.
Doo-jin-ah! Please come with me for shopping.
Sua is typing....
Soojin:
No.
And it's Soo-jin
I snickered at this and put my phone away.
I tried to open the door but it was locked. I took the spare key I had and opened the door.
Ms.Choi must have went out for groceries.
I looked at the fridge and saw a note on there-
I am going to hospital to meet my friend. I have prepared the meal for you. It just need to be re-heated.
- Caretaker.
I took the meal and put it in microwave to re-heat it as I put my bag on the sofa. On the table, there was a idle box. On the top of it, there was a small sticker on which there was a writing.
' Lee Mi-Hyang '
This name sounded familiar to me. The microwave goes off with a ding sound and at the same time I was hit with a thought.
"Ms.Choi forgot to take it with her. It's Ms.Lee's" I whispered under my breath and the food was calling me.
But then here my inner self was forcing me to bring that box to her at hospital.
"She would have called if she wanted it." I dismissed it and then began to walk towards my meal but then another thought hit me.
"She already hesitates to make me work." I sighed and then pick up the box.
I think I am going to delay my meal for the first time ever.
I made my way to the hospital while holding the box in my hand. Once I reached the place, I noticed a luxurious car in black stood out there with guards surrounding it.
Did some big personality came here?
I thought but then I again it isn't my business so I made my way inside. I breathed in as I walked towards the room I believe Ms.Lee was in.
I staggered my way to the hall but heard a squeal of a woman.
Indeed there is someone influential.
And I didn't wanted to interfere with any of them so I was nonchalantly continued to walk.
"Excuse me. You are Kang Y/N right?" I heard a smooth voice just beside me as I looked at the person who called me out.
It's Lee Joo-heon.
Soo-ho's father.
I bowed out of respect and then looked up to see him smiling.
"You have grown a lot. How is your brother and grandfather?" I was about to answer but he didn't let me and spoke up again, making me go stiff.
"After Kang died in accident. I lost touch with Geumhwa group. I heard you survived but your parents couldn't-"
Lump formed in my throat as I tried to blink away the tears that began to form in my eyes at the mention of my parents.
I could feel my hand shake that held the box and my breathing getting abnormal.
Seojun stood just few feet away from them and observed the interaction. He was first glaring at the said man but soon as your appeared, his glared turned into frown.
"Excuse me." I muttered those small words with large difficulty and strutted away from there. I heard confused calls behind me but I ignored them as I made my way out of the halls, trying to get out of prying eyes.
Trying to get away from what I have been for all these years.
I felt a harsh impact as I stumbled but someone grabbed me by my wrist. Out of instinct I looked up to meet those familiar black orbs. I blinked and looked away, afraid Seojun would notice my distraught look.
"Give this to aunty. It's hers." I pushed the box in his hands and once again rushed away from there. I wanted to get away form these walls, these memories, that night.
Seojun was about to ask the girl what got her so disturbed but his voice got caught in his throat once he saw the look on her face.
He was too familiar with that look. Your pensive and sad look made him concerned.
When you handed him the box, he was about to grab you again but you ran away too fast. He didn't know what moved him to follow you but he did anyway.
He handed the box to receptionist and told her to give that to his mother as he followed you.
You walked aimlessly in the halls, trying to get away from the hospital as soon as possible. After Soo-ho's father mentioned your parents accident, that night began to flash in front of your eyes. Your eyesight became blurry as you began to panick that someone will see you in this condition.
But you couldn't stop it. The grief was overwhelming.
I stumbled my way to the nearest washroom and went to the sink and splashed the cold water on my face.
The feeling of cold sensation calmed me a little but aura of melancholy surrounded me. I looked in the mirror and I could see my red eyes and wet eyelashes as water droplets dripped down my chin.
My face looked distraught and my skin lost it's colour. I closed my eyes shut and took in a deep breath.
"I can't let the emotion get the best of me." I took a tissue and wiped my face. I gulped as I opened the door of the washroom.
"gwaenchanh-euseyo?" The deep voice startled me as I looked to my left in slight astonishment but composed myself soon after.
"Why wouldn't I be?" I retorted avoiding eyes contact so he wouldn't see my red eyes. I hope my voice didn't gave away my condition. I sniffed and rubbed my nose with my sleeves.
Suddenly I saw his hand offering a handkerchief.
"Take it." He spoke up and I looked at him through my eyelashes. I hate when people show pity to me. I didn't need their pity, just like I didn't need Mr.Lee's sympathy.
But once I met those of Seojun's, I got lost.
His eyes held a glint of familiarity. I couldn't find any pity in them but just familiarity. He stood his ground with concerned look spread across his face.
I took the hankie and muttered a 'Thank You' lowly.
"I-" My stomach growled and my cheeks heated up in embarrassment.
I should have stayed back home. This is the worst situation I could ever be in.
"Let's go to the nearest CVS store." He put his hands in his pockets and beckoned me to follow him.
"I never said I will go with you." I narrowed my eyes and he just smirked.
"Your stomach says otherwise. C'mon now."
He says and my starving self couldn't resist so I fell into step with him.
"I am sorry about your helmet." I spoke up and noticed his demeanour getting tense a little.
"She says she will get it back."
"She better does." He said in a threatening way and we both entered the store. I went to my favourite stall of ramen flavours. Two hands grabbed the same packet of ramen at the same time.
"You like this one too?" I asked in surprise while he just gave me a straight look.
"It's the only best one." We both took and filled the cup with warm water, waiting for our ramen to get prepared.
We sat at the table near the window and stared ahead with drinks in our hands. There were thousand unspoken words between us, I knew that he knew I had a breakdown. But I appreciate the fact that he didn't force me to tell him or even questioned what happened back there.
"That helmet..." He started earning my attention. I looked at him but he was staring out the window.
"Was my father's" Once he concluded my lips pursed.
That's why he was so protective of that.
I hope Jukyung get it back.
"Is it the reason why aunty prohibits you to ride bike?" I asked before I could stop myself. I shouldn't have asked such personal questions but surprisingly Seojun just sighed and nodded.
Silence between us was overwhelming so I broke it.
"This ramen doesn't change the fact that I will tell aunty that you still ride bike." I exclaimed as his eyes widen
"You wouldn't dare." He said with a disbelief look and pouted lips.
Or maybe that's how he speaks.
Cute.
My eyes widen when I realised what I just thought and blush crept to my neck. I coughed to cover it up and faced the window again.
"You are participating in the Talent show audition?" His sudden question left me dumbfounded.
"No....who told you that?" I asked as he furrowed his brows.
"I just...happen to pass by and saw you and that helmet girl dancing." My face turn into one of realisation as I nodded.
"I was teaching her since she wanted to participate." I explained and he let out an understanding 'ahh' while slurping down the noodles.
His cheeks were full of ramen as he stared deeply at his bowl. Thinking back to the time when you were demonstrating the steps to Jukyung. The steps were.....quite exquisite.
His trance face got me laughing.
I took this chance to click a picture.
"Yah!" He was snapped out of the trance and shouted at me for taking his picture.
"I should post this." I grinned and looked at him in a teasing way while he struggled to see the photo.
"Don't you dare to post that!" He said as he
"Bitch. I already did." I did an evil laugh as I looked at the post.

"Done and done." I turned my phone towards him as he groaned and I laughed even more. I forgot that just before this was having a breakdown, it felt like I felt safe with him, like I could be myself again. Just like I can be with my friends.
"Are you done?" I put away a fake tear as my laughter stopped.
"Sorry it's just that you look ridiculous. " I commented making him grunt.
"I am a model if you don't know." He smirked as he fixed his sleeves and I gave him a mocking look.
"And I am Thor."
"I feel a lot better now." Once we got out of the store, I spoke up and he looked at me giving me a nod.
"Thank you." I sincerely showed my gratitude and smiled at him.
Seojun was taken aback when he saw your genuine smile. He has seen you laugh, curse and even saw you cry but never saw smiling. Over that, genuinely.
He felt stirrings in his stomach, warm feeling spread through him but blinked it away and looked at your stretched hand.
"Wash it and then return it. It has your snot." He said making me gasp.
"That's it. Aunty is gonna know that you ride bike." I pursed my lips and he put his hands up.
"Okay okay!"
"But for real. Thanks." I waved him goodbye as he stood there entralled by your sudden soft voice.
Han Seo Jun still stood there with his hands in his pockets as he stared at your retreating back. He thought of the recent events and couldn't figure out, why he decided to help you.
He still couldn't decipher.
But he knew one thing.
He was glad he did.
