101st Confession
Men nearby peeked at Arista leaning against the wall.
Arista was thinking about the people and Bianca sheâd seen in the garden earlier.
It was suspicious, to say the least. What could they have been up to in the garden?
As she speculated about them, a glass of non-alcoholic champagne appeared in front of her.
âWould you like a drink?â
âUhâ¦â¦.â
It was none other than Lucas who offered the champagne. Arista was taken aback by the unexpected appearance.
Lucas handed her the champagne and leaned in next to her.
She stole a glance at him as he sipped his champagne, but when he made eye contact with her, she quickly looked away.
âHaha, youâre shy, the opposite of your brother, heâs a people pleaser.â
âEww, please donât compare me to him.â
âDid I offend you? Iâm sorry if I did.â
âItâs not that Iâm offended⦠weâre enemies.â
Arista pouted and glanced at Ares, who was dancing with his partner in the distance.
Some thought Ares was too handsome, but in Aristaâs eyes, he was her flesh and blood, two years older than her, nothing more, nothing less.
When Arista made eye contact with Ares, she cursed with her eyes, and Ares looked just as disgusted as she did.
âHow are things going with our Lucia?â
âWhat?â
Arista, who had been locking eyes with Ares for a while, looked up in surprise. She swallowed hard at the sudden seriousness of the usually playful Lucas.
âYes, weâre doing great!â
âWell, thatâs good to hear. Lucia hasnât gotten along with girls her age for a long time.â
âLucia?â
âYep. Maybe itâs because sheâs been hanging out with Herwin since she was a little girl, but sheâs never really gotten along with other girls. I wonder if itâs the same here.â
Arista suddenly remembered the girls whispering about Lucia.
They would gossip about her just because she was close to Herwin.
ââ¦â¦ Take care of our Lucia. Sheâs so nice that when something bad happens to her, she tries to laugh it off, but she probably doesnât mean it.â
The blue walls, identical to Luciaâs, were filled with worry.
âI know. Iâll look out for her, sheâs a dear friend of mine.â
The unexpectedly serious answer startled Lucas for a moment, and then he smiled a thin smile. It looked more like a real smile than his usual wide grin.
âI donât often talk about this⦠but I guess it just came out because I trust you. Maybe because youâre Aresâ sister?â
âWow, youâre flattering me.â
Arista flushed and threw up her hands. Just then, something caught her eye.
ââ¦â¦Herwin?â
Peeking through the slightly parted curtains, she saw Herwin entering the garden.
âIsnât that⦠off-limits?â
âHuh? What did you just say?â
âOh, nothing.â
Arista smiled awkwardly as she hurried to cover up. But her mind was racing.
Why on earth would Herwin go to the garden? His personality would have turned him back at the sight of a no-trespassing signâ¦â¦?
âWhatâs wrong, are you sick?â
Lucas asked worriedly as Aristaâs face darkened.
âI mean, itâs justâ¦â¦.â
âHey guys, is everyone having fun at the party?â
Before Arista could finish her sentence, a voice boomed down the hall. She turned to see an organizer speaking into a megaphone.
âWe have a special event planned for this party â fireworks!â
The hall erupted in cheers.
âOur organizers are preparing a spectacular fireworks display right now, so please be patient.â
âWow, fireworks. Theyâre pretty big.â
ââ¦â¦Yes.â
Looks like the organizer wasnât lying about the fireworks.
Crackle.
The sound tickled their ears and made them jump.
[â¦â¦and thought it looked good on you, so I bought it. I havenât given you a present yet.]
They heard a familiar voice behind the strange sound.
âWhere is that coming from?â
Lucas and Aristaâs eyes slowly widened as they heard a murmur of voices.
âItâsâ¦â¦!â
âThatâs Luciaâs voice?â
Stunned, they tried to find the source of Luciaâs voice, but the next words stopped them in their tracks.
[I like you].
[Even when youâre like thisâ¦â¦.]
[Youâre not saying that for sure!]
[Iâve confessed before that Iâve been overcome by my feelings, but not today.]
âWho the hell is this voice?â
âItâs a voice Iâve heard many times beforeâ¦â¦.â
Each person was surprised by the suddenness of the voice, but when they heard the content, they became even more excited.
They should be too, it was such a passionate confession.
âArista! Do you know where Lucia is?â
Ethan shouted, bringing Brian and Christine with him.
They seemed to recognize the voice as Luciaâs.
âNo, I donât know.â
âWhat kind of a jerk would pull a prank like this onâ¦â¦!â
âCome on, letâs find Lucia first, weâre going to get in trouble for this.â
âSomeone must have set this up because this voice is coming fromâ¦â¦.â
[From the age of eight until now, there has never been a moment when I have not been true to you. I love you, Herwin.]
The entire hall fell silent, including the friends who had been chattering away.
[Please go out with me.]
âNo way⦠Was this a confession to Phoenaeus?â
âHuh, what kind of person confesses to Phoenaeusâ¦â¦â
At the mention of Herwinâs name, hall stuttered again.
âDid she just say Herwin?â
âLuciaâ¦â¦!â
The people looked confused as they listened to their friendâs confession.
âWait a minute, itâs notâ¦â¦!â
Boom!
Before Arista, who was the first to realize it, could finish her sentence, the curtain next to her suddenly flew open.
And so did the other window.
After a moment of panic, Arista felt her heart sink.
Through the tilted window, she could see Lucia and Herwin standing side by side in the gazebo.
âThat canât beâ¦â¦.â
They could see them both startle and look up at the hall in confusion.
A ripple went through the hall as they realized it was Lucia.
The people who were initially confused began to laugh and mock Luciaâs confession.
Few raised their voices, but most smirked.
As the chatter grew louder, Herwin and Luciaâs faces darkened.
Luciaâs shoulders shook with agitation, and she shrank back with trembling eyes, then her gaze went blank as she saw something.
Arista caught the look and turned her head to follow Luciaâs gaze.
She knew at once who Lucia was looking at in the crowd.
âBianca!â
Bianca covered her mouth with her hands, looking as shocked as everyone else.
However, between her hands, she could see the corners of her mouth turn up.
As soon as Arista saw her smile, her head went cold and she realized what had happened.
Bianca proposes to rent the mansion for a birthday party, the organizers decorate something in the garden with her, and Herwin suddenly goes out into the garden.
All the suspicious things fell into place like cogs in a wheel.
âLucia!â
Lucas called urgently. She turned to see Lucia hurriedly leaving.
There was only a crumpled present lying on the floor where she was.
* * *
âWhat, sheâs running away?â
âIâm sure sheâs embarrassed. She just made a public confession in front of everyone.â
âPoor Phoenaeus, heâs got the wrong friend and this is what he gets on his birthday.â
âItâs creepy that sheâd been pretending she donât like him in front of us and pretending to be his friend, but sheâd been thinking about him behind his back.â
âThatâs right, sheâd been pretending to be a friend all this time, and now she can even do that?â
âWell, they say the kitten gets first dibs on the bunk, and thatâs her.â
Everyone in the hall was talking about Lucia.
The mockery and sarcasm were breathtaking to hear.
But they didnât stop talking, as if theyâd found something funny.
âHerwin, are you okay?â
âA public confession in front of everyone, heâll be tired for a while.â
As Herwin stared at the discarded gift, his classmates came to his side.
They comforted him in his embarrassment.
âDid you know that Agnes has had a crush on you for a long time?â
âHey, donât you realize whatâs going on?â
But then someone let out a small laugh and asked something that shouldnât be asked now.
âOh, come on. Honestly, youâve got to be curious. Your childhood friend has had a crush on you since she was eight years old. Isnât that the stuff of fiction?â
âThatâsâ¦â¦.â
âBesides, if sheâs Lucia Agnes, sheâs got a pretty face, and sheâs a nice girl. I think it would be nice if I were you.â
It was full of sarcasm for a tone that said it would be good.
Without a word, Herwin bent down and picked up the broken gift box.
âItâs youâ¦â¦!â
âWhat?â
âWhoâs fighting?â
âPrincess Lydia and⦠Lady Lawrence?â
âUgh, the atmosphere is murderous.â
âHerwin, arenât those two your friends?â
Herwin turned his head in response to their words.
In the distance, he could see Arista and Bianca arguing loudly.
Herwin watched them for a moment, then looked away.
âYes, they were my friends.â
His gaze traveled to the bushes right next to the gazebo, where he saw something shimmering through them.
* * *
âAre you kidding me? You did it!â
âAaah! Princess Lydia hasâ¦â¦!â
âWhat do you think youâre doing, get your hands off me!â
Girls around them screamed and stopped Arista.
Currently, Arista was holding Bianca by the collar.
Aside from Herwin, no one could stop Arista, the head of the Swordsmanship Department.
Bianca bit down hard on her lower lip, unable to break free no matter how hard she struggled and glared at Arista with a venomous glare.
But then she smirked.
âYou really shouldnât be doing this in front of everyone, Princess Lydia.â
Bianca smirked and scanned the stares around her.
Anyone else would have flinched at the stares directed at her, but Aristaâs words only made her clench her fists harder.
