Chapter 23
Changing Only For Her
Chapter 23 Evidence âMaâam, weâre just going to bring her in for questioning.â
âI donât think thatâs necessary. All she does is cause problems.â
I really canât stand Sophie.
âYou should go back to the class, Mrs. Fletcher,â uttered Sophie coldly.
Sheâs not even qualified to become a teacher.
As she followed the police officers downstairs, Willow was coincidentally ascending the stairs, but Sophie did not even bother to glance at her.
However, Willow halted her steps, a frown on her face.
âJust what exactly did Sophie do that the police are here for her?â
âDonât know.â
Willow could not bear to listen to the studentsâ gossips.
If the news of Sophie being arrested spread around, will Grandpa still give her the shares?
Bearing that thought in mind, she quickly gave Charmaine a call.
âMom, the police took Sophie in from the school. I donât know for what. Just wanted to inform you in case you and Grandpa want to check on her.â
On the other side, Charmaine was enraged after she received the news.
That darned Sophie! Why didnât she just die in Horington! Is it not enough for her to embarrass us five years ago? Why is she still causing trouble!
Josiah seemed to take notice of her fury as he queried, âWhatâs wrong?â
âDad, Sophie is arrested. I donât know what happened, but Iâll go to the police station now.â No matter what, sheâs still a Tanner. I canât neglect her.
âWhat?â
âDonât worry, Dad. Iâll go check on her.â
âWait, Iâll go with you.â
On the flip side, Sophie could not help but sneer upon noticing Queenie at the police station.
Hmm. How dare she continue with her act here? Seems like what I did to her is not enough.
âDo you know who she is?â asked an officer to Sophie.
âYes.â
âHave a look at this statement. Do you have anything to say regarding Ms. Queenieâs charges?â
Queenie smirked. Letâs see how youâll remain smug this time, Sophie.
Glancing at Queenie, Sophie still seemed smug.
âYes,â the latter responded nonchalantly.
âWhat is it?â
âI am indeed the one who broke her nose.â
Just as she said that, Charmaine walked in, and the latter was infuriated.
âSophie, I shouldnât have let you return to Jipsdale!â she hollered. Why do I have a daughter like her?
All she does is get into trouble!
At this time, Queenieâs mother also arrived.
Since the Lane family had some sort of business in Jipsdale, Queenieâs mother could not bear to see her daughter in this state.
âWhy are you so evil at such a young age? What did my Queenie do to you that you did this to her?â
Seeing her mother, Queenie ran into her embrace.
âMom, Iâm scared. I donât want to go to school anymore.â
âDonât be scared, Queenie. I believe the police will help us,â replied Cynthia Lane, Queenieâs mother.
âWeâre at fault here, so if you need anything, weâll surely give it to you,â said Charmaine. This matter canât travel out. Otherwise, our family will be embarrassed once again.
âReally? Then break your daughterâs nose. Our family doesnât need any more money.â
âWeâre really sorry, Mrs. Lane. Sophieâs still young. Please let her off the hook this time. What are you waiting for, Sophie? Apologize!â
Seeing Charmaine behaving like this, Josiah spoke up. âHold on.â Why is she blaming Sophie when she doesnât know the full story yet?
âDad, you donât have to get involved in this. Iâll handle it.â Knowing Josiahâs temper, Charmaine was afraid that he would make things worse.
âGet to the side, Charmaine.â Josiah did not wish to continue watching Charmaine slandering his granddaughter like this.
âDadââ
âGrandpa, itâs okay. Trust me. Iâll get this dealt with.â
How would a kid like her deal with this matter? âSophââ
âDad, letâs just use money to resolve this issue.â
âMoney? Do you think our family lacks money? Officer, youâve seen so yourself how this family behaves. Iâve had enough. Iâm not going to accept anything they offer. I want to press charges against her.â
Hearing that, Charmaine panicked. âYou better shut the hell up, Sophie.â
âMrs. Tanner, my problem has nothing to do with you. Please go home.â
Why would someone who doesnât even listen to me help me, anyway?
âQueenie, I did hit you,â Sophie stated.
Her words rendered everyone else speechless. Why does she look proud of it?
âBut thatâs only because you deserved it. You told everyone I broke your nose. Why donât you tell them why I did it?â
âAre you trying to justify yourself? What kind of behavior is this? Youâre already eighteen. You have to bear the consequences of your own actions,â retorted Cynthia.
âWhy did Sophie hit you?â questioned Josiah, siding with Sophie.
âHow would I know why you hit me, Sophie? Didnât you get expelled from the school in Horington because of fighting? You, of all people, should know what kind of person you are.â
Iâm sure she doesnât have any proof that I kidnapped Ysabelle.
âHmm, seems you still refuse to give up.â
With that, Sophie fished out her phone, giving a recording to the police officer.
When the officer pressed play, the voice of Queenie threatening Sophie was heard.
Instantly, Queenieâs face went pale, as she did not expect Sophie would record the phone call.
Simultaneously, Cynthia stared at her daughter in disbelief.
âI rescued my friend while Queenie kidnapped and hurt her. I suppose the police know whoâs right and whoâs wrong here.â
âMom, I didnât.â
After that, Sophie handed a flash drive to the police officer.
âThe evidence is all there.â
The officer did not imagine the matter to take such a drastic turn.
âQueenie, if you have anything to say, just tell the officer. Iâll not be accepting any offer from you as well.â
When the officer confirmed the evidence, the way he treated Sophie changed.
âI apologize, Ms. Tanner.â
âItâs all right. Queenie, if you have any questions, you can speak to my lawyer,â said Sophie as she gave Queenie a name card.
Turning to the officer, Sophie asked politely, âIf thereâs nothing else, may I take my leave?â
âYes. Thank you for your cooperation, Ms. Tanner.â
Approaching her grandfather, Sophie supported him. âLet me send you home, Grandpa.â
âThank you, officers,â uttered Josiah.
Meanwhile, Queenie was on the verge of tears. âWhat are we going to do, Mom?â
Cynthia gave her daughter a slap.
âQueenie, are you stupid! How could you act as if you were in the right when you were the one at fault!â
Thereâs even evidence!
âIsnât Uncle Jason a lawyer, Mom? I donât want to go to jail!â
Uncle Jason is extremely famous in his field. Itâs still uncertain whoâll end up in jail.
