That Ring: Chapter 29
That Ring: A Second Chance Sports Romance (That Boy® Book 5)
âYou were completely right yesterday,â Jennifer says to Jadyn.
Iâm not really paying attention. Iâm staring at the fireplace and thinking about how we spent most of last night lying in front of itânaked.
âI know,â Jadyn says with a grin. âAnd Iâm sorry I sort of just left.â
âWhat are you two talking about?â Phillip asks, bringing me out of my reverie.
He and Jadyn got a sitter and came over tonight. We were all planning to go out to dinner but got quite a bit of snow today and decided to stay in. With Dannyâs kids still at their motherâs house, it will be fun to just have a quiet night here.
âLori,â Jennifer says as she sets the charcuterie board she prepared earlier on the kitchen island.
âWhat did she do now?â I ask, shaking my head.
âWhen she picked the kids up, she said some things about you,â Jennifer says, plucking a candied almond off the board and popping it into her mouth.
âThat weâre still having an affair,â Jadyn says with a chuckle, but the laugh canât hide the instant change in her demeanor, which tells me everything I need to know. That Jennifer asked her about it, and Jadyn told her in no uncertain terms how she felt about the question.
âYou should have spoken to me about what Lori said,â I say to Jennifer.
She nods. âYes, I know. And from now on, I will. Iâll give Lori credit though; she sure knows how to push peopleâs buttons.â
âNo more talk about Lori,â Phillip says, raising his glass in the air. âTo snowy nights by the fire.â
âIâll drink to that,â I say, bumping my hip into Jenniferâs, reminding her how much fun we had doing exactly that last night.
âThe kids will be back for Christmas Eve, right?â Jadyn asks. Sheâs sipping on a cranberry juice instead of the Moscow mules I made for the rest of us.
âYes,â Jennifer replies. âIt will be just me and Angel until then. Danny leaves for the Miami game tomorrow, so Iâll be wrapping presents and cooking for the next two days.â
âAnd watching my game,â I interject.
âOf course. I wouldnât miss it,â she coos.
