Chapter 292
The Girlboss Begs for Remarriage
Fred gently patted Winterâs head. âDonât worry. Sheâs going to be fineâIâve already arranged for a specialist for her.â
Beside him, the woman wearing extensive makeup spoke up. âItâs just her old age showing. Why go through all that trouble? What a waste of money.â
Frank frowned at those words and turned toward the woman.
He immediately recognized herâit was the top sales girl from that dealership he visited before.
However, she had been thoroughly dismissive of him and Janet Zimmerâ¦
âAnd you are?â he asked.
Fred introduced, âThis is my girlfriend, Marian Henley, and this is Frank Lawrence⦠A friend.â
Marian did a double take when she glanced at Frank. âItâs youâ¦?â
âYes. We meet again,â Frank said impassively, his tone flat.
âOh⦠Youâve met before?â Fred asked in curiosity.
âYeah, of course,â Marian said, quickly getting up and batting her eyelashes endlessly at Frank. âHe came to my dealership -you should have said you were Fredâs friend. I couldâve given you a discount.â
âIâm fine,â Frank said nonchalantly. âThat bit of money is really nothing to me.â
He certainly had a hunch on what Marian was doing at the dealership with that other old customer.
Frank also felt a foreboding sensation in his gutâhe thought he would never see Marian again, but it turned out that she was Fredâs girlfriendâ¦
Completely oblivious to his girlfriendâs unruly behavior, Fred chuckled just then. âOh, Iâm surprised youâve met. What a coincidence.â
Frank excused himself from the ward and headed to the staircase to call Dan Zimmer.
âHello? Mr. Zimmer?â
âMr. Lawrence!â Janet greeted him from the other end. âMy grandfatherâs actually refining some pills at the momentâjust ask me if thereâs anything you need.â
âWell, itâs nothing important,â Frank replied. âMy sisterâs mother was just admitted to Riverton City Hospital, but to a normal ward. Could you help me apply for some privileges? If I recall, the hospital chief Hali King is close friends with Dan, right?â
âOh, itâs no big deal at all,â Janet told him assuringly. âYou have nothing to worry about, Mr. Lawrence.
Iâll call Mr. King right nowâheâll make the arrangements.â
âThank you,â Frank said and hung up.
On the other hand, Janet was pensive.
Frankâs sisterâs mother⦠Was he referring to his cousinâs mother?
After some thought, she decided to check things out at the hospital.
Ignorance might be bliss, but she ought to do something considering her familyâs friendship with Frank, now that she was aware.
There was not much to do here at Flora Hall anyway.
Meanwhile, Frank stayed at the staircase, quietly lighting himself a cigarette, when the door suddenly opened.
Marian strode in, approaching him with a grin. âSo this is where you were. Youâre really not that hard to find.â
Frank studied her. âWhat?â
Marian remained unabashed as she giggled and wrapped her hands around Frankâs arm. Nothing⦠Iâd just like to apologize for what happened before. Please donât hold a grudge against me.â
â
âI Frank took a deep breath but nodded. âI didnât hold a grudge. You can go if thereâs nothing else.â
âOh, come onâ¦â Marian purred as she held his wrist and threw herself over his chest, twirling her hair around a finger while smiling, âAre you really not interested in me at all?â
