Chapter 299
The Girlboss Begs for Remarriage
âWhat?â Winter frozeâshe was just friends with Frank, not his sister!
For Janetâs part, she did not say much as she studied Winter.
âHmm. You do have the looks,â she said, nodding. âAnyway, you and your family should step out for a moment. Chief King and I will be examining your mother.â
They all nodded repeatedlyâthe chief of the hospital was right there, after all!
Once they were out, Winter promptly snapped at Fred, âI told you that you shouldnât have chased Frank away. What are you going to say the next time you see him?â
Fred appeared embarrassed and felt a little guilty, but the way Frank threw shade at Marian still left him seething.
âSo what?â he retorted stubbornly. âDo you think we canât survive without him? You should stop seeing him tooâthe way I see it, he just wants your body.â
He knew that much was trueâFrank was as rich as he was influential. Why else would Frank be nice to their family if not for Winter?
It was not to mention that they both came here together!
âWhatâ¦â Winter was speechless, convinced that her brother was measuring Frankâs generosity by his own petty standards.
Just then, Marian had an idea and asked, âDoes that man even have a job?â
âWe donât know, but he does have friends in high places.â Fred snorted.
âNo, heâs very rich too,â Marian quickly said. âWhen he came to my dealership, he bought two Maybachsâone for himself, and the other for Janet Zimmer.â
At those words, Fred wheeled on Winter right then. âYou hear that? That man is just lavishing any pretty face he comes across with luxury. Donât you dare accept anything he gives.â
Winter quickly tightened her collar.
Seeing Fredâs attitude, there was even less reason for her to show the thirty million dollar necklace Frank just gave her.
Before evening arrived, Brock was long gone, and Marian was not bothered to stay.
Only Fred and Winter were left sitting on the bench outside, dozing off.
They jolted awake when Janet and Hali stepped out and quickly asked, âMs. Zimmer, Doctor Kingâ¦
Howâs my mother?â
Janet breathed a long sigh. âSheâs safe, thankfullyâshe also just woke up. Iâve written a prescription here, so follow the routine, and sheâll recover soon enough.â
She handed the paper and her number to Fred, who took it gratefully.
âIâll be going now if thereâs nothing else,â she added. âCall me right away if anything happens.

âOkay, okayâ¦â Fred nodded repeatedly and saw her off before heading into the special care ward.
To no surprise, Carol was awake. One could expect nothing less of Dan Zimmerâs granddaughter⦠Janet did not need surgery to treat Carol!
âHow do you feel, Mom?â Fred exclaimed, beside himself with delight.
Carol nodded as she looked around. âIâm fine⦠Where am I?â
It was obviously not her house.
âThis is Riverton City Hospitalâs special care ward,â Fred quickly said.
âWhat?â Carol exclaimed, and quickly tried to get up. âWhat are we doing here? It costs a fortune to stay here. Letâs go home right awayâ¦â
Winter promptly pressed a hand on her shoulder. âDonât worry, Mom. Mr. Lawrence arranged this ward for you without spending a dime.â
Carol did a double take and quickly asked, âYou mean, Frank Lawrence? The man at our snackbar before?â
Fred hated Frank but nodded exasperatedly. âThatâs the one.â
âWâWhy would he go so far for us?â Carol murmured, perplexed.
