Chapter 369
The Girlboss Begs for Remarriage
The Chief of General Affairsâ secretary smiled when he saw Helen. âItâs alright, Ms. Lane. Iâm Aron Lynch, and your reputation precedes you, Ms. Lane. Itâs an honor to finally meet you.â Caught by surprise, Helen smiled awkwardly.
Was she that famous already, that the Chief of General Affairsâ secretary had actually heard of her?
âOh, letâs not keep Mr. Lynch standing. Come on inâwe can talk inside,â Cindy said just then. Helen nodded repeatedly as she came to her senses as well. âYeah, thatâs right. Do come in, Mr. Lynch.â
Aron shook his head. âThatâs unnecessary. Iâm just here on the Chief of General Affairsâ behalf.
âI see⦠And what are Mr. Simmonsâ orders?â Helen asked gingerly.
Aron laughed. âCalm down, Miss Lane. Mr. Simmons heard that itâs your grandfatherâs birthday. Since itâs a day to celebrate, he arranged for Riverton Hotelâs premier banquet hall for your useâall expenses covered, of course.â
âWhat?!â
The Lanes were bewildered, while Helen quickly said, âPlease donât joke like this, Mr. Lynch. We have not earned enough of Mr. Simmonsâ favor for such privilegeâ¦â
Aron chuckled. âThereâs no need to be humble here, Ms. Lane, Mr. Simmons himself had spoken, so thereâs no mistake. You can go to Riverton Hotel to ask if you still doubt me.â
If anything, Aron was himself shocked when Gerald tasked him with this errandâhe would. certainly be a lot less shocked if they were talking about the Turnbulls!
The Turnbulls at least had influence in the capital, while one could only wonder what the Lanes had up their sleeves to draw such attention.
âOhâ¦â
Helen glanced at his mother and the rest in disbelief.
âMr. Simmons really admires you, Ms. Lane,â Aron added. âHe also hopes that Lane Holdings will rise to new heights.â
âOf course, of courseâ¦â Helen nodded repeatedly.
Seeing that his task was done, Aron said, âHereâs my number. Call me right away if thereâs anything you needâI have something else to attend to, so Iâll be leaving now.â
Helen escorted him out of their manor reverently, and Gina signed emotionally when Aronâs car was finally out of sight. âOh, my god⦠Gerald Simmons himself arranged a birthday party for the old man?
What an honor!â
âI heard that the premier hall is a place for Rivertonâs rich and important people,â Peter added. âTo think that weâd have the privilege too.â
âDidnât you hear Mr. Lynch?â Cindy chimed in. âMr. Simmons is footing the bill for the old manâs birthday. When did you make his acquaintance, Helen?â
Helen shook her head awkwardly. âYou give me too much credit. I donât have such a privilege.â
âYouâre being too humble,â Peter told her.
Helen smiled bitterlyâshe was just stating facts.
âOh!â Cindy gasped as she remembered something, and quickly said, âCould Mr. Larkin have arranged this? I mean, who else would know Gerald Simmons?â
Gina nodded repeatedly. âIt has to be him. You have to thank him properly, Helen. Heâs really done us a great honor this time.â
Helen was taken abackâcould it really be Zeb?
Whatever the case might be, she now at least had a connection with Gerald!
