Chapter One

We Need a New Room Mate (Danielle Savre and Stefania Spampinato)

"Danielle!"

"No!"

"We cannot afford it!"

"Yes. We. Can,"

"We are both freelance actors. The money we got from Walmart isn't going to last forever, you know?" Jaina stood with her hands on her hips, head tilted to the side as she stared at her very stubborn best friend of 13 years.

"I know, I know," Danielle sighed, running a hand through her hair. "You would think that doing an advert for Walmart would get us more jobs though. Especially as it's around Christmas,"

"Unfortunately, that is not the case. And do not even try to say that your 'personal trainer' gig gets you anything. It's basically that one guy who thinks your hot,"

"I wasn't going to. I didn't even start that, he just asked and I said yes because money. No one gets hurt," Danielle cut her eye at Jaina as she flopped back on the sofa. "Anyway, that just helps me fund my-"

"Obsession with English football shirts?"

"Jaina! No. That's not an obsession, it's a... love. I was going to say that it helps me fund all my workout stuff,"

"Okay, that doesn't help the fact that we need a new room mate,"

"But, I don't want one," Jaina glared at Danielle who was unaware as she idly stared at the ceiling. "It's so much fun when it's just us. How it's meant to be. I just keep thinking about when were like, seventeen, and talking about living together and how cool it would be,"

"We are living together. We have been for almost three years,"

"With someone else. Don't get me wrong, Leah was lovely but it's just not how I envisioned our future,"

"Danielle, you're starting to sound like we're dating. Come on! We've had the past two months of just us and it's been great but how can we save up for another holiday if we are paying more rent that can easily be spilt again?" Jaina walked over to the sofa and lifted up Danielle's legs so that she could sit, letting her keep them on her lap.

"It would be easier if we were dating," Danielle mumbled. "We're basically perfect for each other. We want the exact same things in life and we already get along so well!"

"While I do love you, we have already established that I do not like girls,"

"Yeah, no need to rub it in," There was a moment of silence as Danielle weighed up the pros and cons of having a new room mate. "Is Boris coming over later?"

"Yes, he is," Jaina replied, a smile creeping up on her face at the thought of him.

"It's been eight months, how are you still in the honeymoon phase?!" Danielle groaned, swinging her legs off of Jaina.

"Don't be such a grump, you'll find the one soon. I know it," Jaina patted her best friend gently. "But anyway... where do you want to advertise for a room mate?"

"Before I agree to anything," Danielle began, standing up and grabbing an old envelope on the side and a pen. "Let's just go through the pros and the cons,"

"Really?" Danielle shot Jaina and look that said it all to be honest because she just let out a sigh and moved forward to see what Danielle was about to write.

"Okay so, pros," Danielle begun. "Hm..."

"Less rent for us," Jaina said deadpan, unamused at Danielle's over exaggerated thinking. "Less chores and less bills,"

"But they might be messy, ignorant, have too many people over, try and jeopardise our friendship! You just don't know, it's too risky. Let's not do it. I really think we can turn the spare room into something special. I know that right now, it's just, kind of a barren, but we can renovate. Make it a walk in wardrobe or a mini gym or a studio. The possibilities are endless! ,"

"Danielle Savre!"

"Yes?"

"Number one, we can't afford to renovate anything. Number two, we can sit down and get to know the potential new room mate before anything else. Alright?" Jaina knew that she was finally getting her point across to Danielle as her shoulders seemingly became less tense.

"Fine," Danielle sighed, scrunching up the envelope. "Pick good candidates," She feigned annoyance as walked towards the stairs but at the end of the day, she knew this would be very beneficial for her bank account.

"I love you!" Jaina shouted, a smug smile on her face.

"Shut up!" Danielle shouted back, shutting her bedroom door behind her. She picked up her phone and messaged 'Oak and Friends', the group chat her and Jaina are in which consists of their friend group and was named that after Oak won a bet and just wanted the prize to be that he could name the group chat. Could be worse.

Danielle S: Hey guysss, Jaina is having Boris over tonight, you wanna come over so I'm not just a 3rd wheel pretty please?

She put her phone down as she moved to her wardrobe and pulled out a pair of typical black leggings, an Arsenal FC shirt and a hoodie so she could get ready to go the gym. As most days, she didn't have much going on.

Jay H: Heyyy, I'm free tonight! What alcohol should I bring?

Barrett D: You bring the pink gin, I bring the tequila. Is it okay if I bring Brett as well?

Jason G: With the wife tonight guys

Jay H: More shots for me :))

Danielle smiled down at her phone as she stood there in just a sports bra and underwear. She really did love her friends.

Danielle S: Yes, of course bring Brett!

"Since when were we having a small gathering at our house?" Jaina asked, suddenly appearing in Danielle's doorway.

"Ever since you wanted a new room mate and this might be the last time we get the house to ourselves in who knows how long," Danielle replied, unphased by her best friends presence as she changed.

"You're unnecessarily dramatic. But anyway, I need to run this listing past you before I post it," Jaina said, handing her phone to Danielle.

'ROOM TO RENT'.... Danielle scanned over it, all the information was correct and she handed the phone back with a nod.

"Posted," Jaina said with a smile. "I'll run to the shop to get some chips and what not, probably some beers as well,"

"Yeah, that's cool. I won't be too long today, back by 6 ish," Danielle said, looking at the clock on the wall, that gave her at least an hour at the gym. Jaina was about to walk out of the room when her phone dinged in her hand.

"Someone has already replied to the post... an April Kepner,"

"You just posted that. Too eager. No," Jaina just shook her head and laughed as she walked to her own bedroom, leaving Danielle to her own devices.

Some of her friends say that she has an obsession, to her, it's self care. She has to go to the gym every day, otherwise she doesn't feel right. Even if she manages to go for half an hour, there is a sense of accomplishment that she went. It's an outlet for any pent up frustration, whether that be at her disconnected family, constant self doubt or lack of love life, the gym is like a safe haven for her. She grabbed her keys, a pair of gloves and called out to Jaina as she left, hearing a muffled, "see you soon!" in return.

At 6:04, Danielle returned home with a smile on her face, pony tail slightly loose and an added pinkness to her cheeks. "Jaina! I have returned! You will not believe what-

"Hey Danielle,"

"Ah!" Danielle spun around to see Boris standing there with a small smirk on his face and a beer in one hand. "Geez, you could have given me a warning," She rolled her eyes as she hugged him. "How are you? Where's Jaina?"

"I'm good thank you, been so busy with work recently," He replied, stretching ever so slightly and subtly flexing his arms. Working as a fire fighter really does have its perks. "She just ran out to the shop, again, because she realised that there was no salsa in the fridge and wanted to get a specific one, she'll be back any minute actually,"

"Nice nice," Danielle replied, opening a beer with her teeth and leaning against the kitchen counter.

"That's not good for you teeth," Boris commented.

"Efficiency," Danielle replied. "Oh my gosh, did Jaina tell you that she posted an advert for a new room mate?"

"Ah yes, she did, that's great!"

"No, it's not. I will go through all my points again with you if you want,"

"That's okay," Boris laughed, holding his free hand up in surrender. "Jai already told me. But you never know, you might get along really well. You might even have a super cliche love story and fall in love,"

"Bleh. You two are so lovey dovey, Jaina was saying the same sort of thing earlier about how she's certain I'll find the one soon,"

"You will, Danielle. You're great, honestly," Danielle just rolled her eyes and took another sip of her beer. Then they heard the familiar sound of keys in the door and Jaina entered.

"Oh good, you're back," She smiled, hanging her jacket on the rack by the door and placing the bag on the counter. "There's been a couple more replies to the ad,"

"Mhm, no," Danielle said, shaking her head as she walked towards the stairs. "Not tonight, we'll go through them tomorrow,"

"Tomorrow!" Jaina called as Danielle ran up the stairs to her room so that she could change.

"Tomorrow,"
