Chapter 117
Ethan’s Vengeance of Love
Indeed, what Rosy said was the âtruthâ known to outsiders.
Ethan frowned because he remembered Chris had told him the details about Woland Groupâs big
fortune. It seemed like the company had someone brilliant behind it. Also, Chris mentioned they could
earn so much because the person behind them helped them with the planning.
Although Ethan was a little dissatisfied with his motherâs words, his upbringing dictated that he could
not retort to his mother and embarrass her before others. Hence, he said, âMom, eat up.â
The meaning behind those words was quite obviousâeat up and talk less.
Alice was flabbergasted and seemed surprised as if she did not expect Ethan would speak up for her in
such a situation. Heâs speaking up for me, isnât he?
On the other hand, Rosyâs expression changed. âHave some more food. The dishes today are quite
delicious.â Lawrence then placed a piece of pork rib on her plate.
The words spoken were similar, but Lawrenceâs tone was a lot easier to accept.
Alice could not hold back the smile as she thought Ethan was a verbally destructive man. The words he
said were infuriatingly sarcastic.
âAlice, what did you study in Cliaria?â Afraid that she might feel embarrassed, Lawrence deliberately
changed the topic. He was a kind, big shot.
âCivil engineering.â
When she said she wanted to further her studies abroad, Bruce helped her apply for a program, which
was telling how much âthoughtâ he had put into it. Of course, she went along with him and still had not
gotten her graduating certificate.
âReally? The company has just taken on a bridge-building project that involves seismic reinforcement
practices, seismic isolation, and auxiliary energy dissipation. What are your thoughts about it?â
Lawrence was trying hard to liven up the mood.
To him, there was no such thing as a bad student. If a person was studying a particular program, they
should strive hard no matter what.
âWhat you said is too complicated. I donât understand. Sorry.â Alice felt there was still a need to
maintain her image lest not make Rosy worry. That was because Rosy would never let her shine before
Ethan.
To be fair, she never wanted to get on Ethanâs good side anyway.
âDo you think everyone is as smart and excellent as our familyâs children?â It was unknown whether
Rosyâs words stemmed from her anger toward Ethan earlier.
âMommy has a lot of good traitsâ¦â Caroline was not having it and thought her mother was an excellent
person too.
âTell me then. What good traits does your mommy have?â Rosy half-heartedly asked as though she
was teasing Caroline.
At that point, everyone at the table had stopped eating and looked at Caroline, waiting for her to
answer. Alice was also looking at her with anticipating eyes. Although she did not want to get on
Ethanâs good side, she hoped she was an excellent mother in Carolineâs eyes.
However, Caroline was stuck and could not utter a word after a long while. Alice felt her lips twitch
slightly. Sweetie? Are you sure youâre not embarrassing Mommy?
In the meantime, Caroline was looking at her mother while breaking out in a sweat. Alice pouted and
averted her eyes, not wanting to look at a particular child who was embarrassing her mommy.
Seeing that, Ethan suddenly laughed, and Alice quickly turned to look at him. âHave some more food.
You have a large appetite.â He did not feel guilty for laughing. Instead, he looked at the dishes before
him and remarked seriously.
Yes, he added that comment to help Caroline.
It seemed that he still remembered how Alice had devoured a whole table of food last time.
At the same time, she looked at him with eyes as sharp as swords. Mr. Knight, are you sure this is a
good trait?! Which woman would feel proud to have a large appetite? Donât speak if you canât say nice
words!
Caroline gazed between Alice and Ethan several times and finally thought of something good about her
mother. âAt least Mommy has good taste in men. Otherwise, she wouldnât have married Daddy.â
âSweetie, if what you said is true, Mommy might be blind.â By now, Alice was so infuriated by Ethan
that she felt stuffy. Also, she was sticking to her original thought that whoever set their eyes on a
sarcastic man like Ethan had to be blind.
Of course, she deliberately said that to Rosy to highlight the notion that she did not fancy her son,
directly telling her that she did not need to be anxious and guard her like a K9. After all, Alice stayed in
the Knight Family for Caroline and not to suffer grievances and live a life of an inferior daughter-in-law.
She was never a person who would accept mistreatment from others. Therefore, she could not care
less or be bothered by Rosyâs sarcastic remarks earlier. Still, she hoped Rosy could understand her
intentions and not repeat those words.
There was silence for a moment because the intelligent Rosy understood the meaning behind Aliceâs
words. Embarrassed, she realized those words were meant for her. Though it was not her intention to
mistreat Alice, she merely wanted to keep both sides away from each other to make things easier when
it was time to cut ties.
Seeing that the entire family was kind, Rosy thought she was bound to be the villain.
In the meantime, Lawrence broke into a chuckle after listening to Aliceâs words and gave Ethan a
meaningful glance.
Ethan, however, was furious. What is she saying? Is she saying she must be blind to have taken a
fancy to me? This woman must be here to anger me to death. While thinking of that, he served Alice
vegetables and spoke through gritted teeth, âEat. Being blind doesnât stop your large appetite.â
Look! Those similar words would sound more comforting and considerate when spoken by Mr. Knight
but infuriating when coming out of Ethanâs mouth. I wouldnât even pick up such a man from the streets.
Just wait. Iâm going to throw him out on the streets six months later, she complained silently.
Lawrence glanced at his son and could not help but shake his head. It was no wonder why Ethan still
slept alone after being married for so long. With his behavior, Lawrence would not be surprised if his
son remained alone forever.
Still, one needed to help out their son. Plus, Lawrence was cooking up a plan to make those two spend
time together. âAlice, what are your plans for tomorrow?â
âMy uncle Elijah is throwing a birthday party for my grandpa tomorrow, and I have to be there.â Alice
knew a while ago that Elijah would organize a birthday celebration for Charles.
However, Elijah never told her about it. It was Charles who notified her when she returned to the
Woland Residence today. No matter how estranged she was from the Wolands, she had to attend
Charlesâ birthday celebration.
âEthan, why donât you go with her?â Lawrenceâs eyes lit up as he thought this was a great chance.
What could be better than the couple returning to their maiden home together?
Since the two had only gotten their marriage certificates and were yet to hold a wedding ceremony,
Ethan had not met the Wolands. That was a perfect opportunity now, wasnât it?
Moreover, Lawrence had heard of the rumors about Alice, saying she had a company as her dowry,
which she had given to Bruce. Yet, that man was unwilling to marry her despite all that. Therefore,
many said she was doomed to remain single for the rest of her life.
If Ethan accompanied Alice to the banquet tomorrow, it could also prove all those people wrong.
It was a win-win situation.
Yes. Not a bad idea, not a bad idea indeed. Thatâs settled! Lawrence thought.
