Chapter 58
Ethan’s Vengeance of Love
No! I wonât approve of this! I canât bear to send my child away. I canât! Alice was curious to hear what
Ethan had to say. âCaroline belongs to the Knight Family.â The man spoke in a firm and unwavering
tone as he stared at her. âSo, she has to come home to us.â
His words are so f*cking harsh and straightforward! I canât even act as if I donât understand what heâs
saying! Why canât he be a little less explicit about his needs? Heâs so bold and demanding that he gives
me the urge to punch him. Even though Ethan didnât say much, his intentions were clearâhe was
going to bring Caroline home regardless of whether Alice approved of it. Furthermore, Alice didnât feel
like she could reject Ethanâs request.
If Caroline had belonged to another family, or if someone else had approached Alice, Alice might have
felt more worried. However, she knew that she had no reason to worry if Caroline was entering the
Knight Family. The Knight Family was practically a model family in townâthey were extremely
respectable people. Ethanâs grandfather was a war veteran and a leader, while one of his sons was a
government official with high authority. Ethan himself was focused on the business side of things, and
Knight Group was one of the top companies in the whole country. It was rumored that Ethan was more
active in charity than he was in his business at this point.
A family like the Knights wouldnât lie to Alice about such things. Furthermore, Alice knew that she had
no reason to stop Caroline from returning to the family, who shared the same blood as her. Even
though Alice felt really heartbroken, a part of her had always hoped for Caroline to find her biological
family and return to them. Ethan stared at Alice without saying anything else.
âWhat are your terms and conditions, Miss Woland? You can tell us what you want.â Caleb had been
standing beside Ethan the whole time, and he figured that itâd only be appropriate for him to speak up
and offer something, especially since Alice had cared for Caroline for the past few years. Even though
most of the evidence indicated that Alice wasnât the one who slept with Ethan that night, Caleb knew
that Ethan treated Alice in a manner that was different from the way he treated other girls. Furthermore,
with all that happened with Caroline, Caleb was certain that Ethan would agree to whatever Alice
wanted.
Right then, Caleb recalled what had happened with Woland Group. It seems like Mr. Knight wasnât too
pleased after hearing that Woland Group had been handed over to Bruce. Why doesnât he just help
Miss Woland get the company back? Someone as capable as Mr. Knight can probably get this done
with the snap of a finger. âMiss Woland, your wedding with Bruce didnât work out, soâ¦â Caleb wanted
to say that they could help Alice to regain control over the Woland Group since the wedding didnât work
out.
However, Alice was in a pretty bad mood then. The child she had taken care of for the past three years
was about to be snatched away from her after she was presented with a few DNA tests. Anyone in her
position would feel horrible. Alice might have felt a little better if she hadnât cared for Caroline, but the
truth was that she cared for Caroline to a point where she felt like she had sacrificed more for Caroline
than she did for Apollo. She felt as if someone was slicing off a piece of her and digging her heart out
at that moment. On top of that, she felt especially horrible since the other party was speaking to her in
such a demanding manner!
She wasnât as patient as she usually was, and she interrupted Caleb before he could finish his words.
âYeah, the wedding didnât happen. So what? Are you guys going to kidnap a guy and make him marry
me?â Alice was annoyed at the other partyâs haughty demeanor. What do they mean when they tell me
to just voice out my terms and conditions? Do they think that I canât handle things on my own? Do I
look like I need their help? Do they think I cared for Caroline because I was interested in the Knight
Familyâs wealth?
Alice was fuming. However, she knew that everything she said at that moment was fueledâshe just
wanted to let out some steam. She knew that the Knight Family was powerful, but she also knew that
they werenât the type to bully others with their power. It was impossible for them to kidnap Bruce just for
him to get married to her. My precious little Caroline is about to be snatched away from me. Am I not
allowed to throw a little tantrum? Thatâs nonsense!
âGet it done,â Ethan shot Alice a glance before turning to Caleb and giving him orders. âGet what
done?â Caleb, who had always been smart and well aware of what Ethan was thinking, was stunned by
the orders he received. What does Ethan want me to do? Does he want me to kill Bruce? Or does he
want me to do what Miss Woland saidâto kidnap Bruce and force him to marry her? T-Thatâs not
possible, right? No, no way⦠Itâd make more sense if Mr. Knight were to stop Miss Woland from being
with Bruce.
Alice was just as surprised. Yeah. What does Ethan want him to do? Alice didnât understand what was
going on either. She had just muttered some nonsense out of anger, and she hadnât expected Ethan to
take her seriously. âI want you to settle the marriage documents.â Ethan parted his sexy lips to give
Caleb clearer orders.
Caleb stared at Ethan dumbfoundedly. Iâm sorry, Mr. Knight. I have no idea what youâre talking about.
Alice froze for a moment as well. She assumed that Ethan was referring to her marriage documents
with Bruce. âThereâs no need for that. Bruce and Iââ
Ethan held his hand up and pointed at Alice. âMarriage documents for the two of us,â he uttered.
Alice started coughing as she choked on her own saliva. She had always assumed that she was a calm
and collected person after all that she had been through, but she was genuinely shocked by what she
just heard. Caleb felt his knees buckle with shockâhe was just as taken aback as Alice was. All the
evidence clearly indicates that Miss Woland wasnât the one who slept with Mr. Knight that night. If thatâs
the case, why would he still want to marry Miss Woland? Is this for Miss Caroline?
âNo, no. Mr. Knight, I believe I might have made some mistakes with my sentence earlier. Please give
me a chance to rephrase my words. Iâll speak in a more comprehensible way.â Alice felt like she had to
clarify her words. âI was just joking earlier, Mr. Knight.â Alice wondered if her joke had gone too far.
âI donât joke around with others.â Ethan stared at her as he spoke. He had always been known for
having a straightforward and simple personality. âWell, I believe you misunderstood my intentions, Mr.
Knight. I need money. I really need money now. I lost my marriage and my company; I have no identity
and no place to call home. Iâm practically a homeless woman at this point. I might even starve to my
death on the streets somedayâ¦â Alice tried her best to force some tears out of her eyes, but it didnât
work.
My acting is horrible today. Thatâs odd. I had done so well when I was dealing with Bruce. Why am I so
bad in front of Mr. Knight? Since Alice couldnât force any tears out, she tried her best to put on a puppy-
eyed look as she stared at Ethan. Deep down, Alice didnât want money. She already had all the money
she needed. However, this option was much better than selling herself to another man. I once heard
somewhere that issues arenât issues when they can be resolved with money. Things get easy if they
can be settled with money.
âHow much do you want?â Ethan was surprised for a moment. After some hesitation, he allowed Alice
to name her price.
