Chapter 62
Ethan’s Vengeance of Love
If Ethan were to ask her some questions at this moment, she would most certainly be caught off guard
and would spill the beans.
However, before he could pry any information from her, Alice suddenly stood up and said, âCaroline is
adorable and well-behaved. Youâll see when you meet her. Letâs stop here for today. I should go back
now.â
âAlright. Iâll send you home.â He knew he had missed the best opportunity, and with her intelligence and
vigilance, asking her about the truth now would be useless.
She wanted to refuse, but she thought about his style of doing things. Even if she refused, he would
just do as he pleased.
So, she didnât say anything and obediently followed him out of the restaurant.
Ethan escorted her to the entrance of her apartment building, which didnât surprise Alice. He was able
to find out about Carolineâs situation, so discovering her residence wasnât a difficult feat at all. After all,
she wasnât living in a secluded area.
When Alice first returned to Rodcaster, she didnât bring Caroline along because of the wedding
preparations. She was afraid she wouldnât have time to take care of Caroline or that something might
happen to the girl.
However, Cecilia had no choice but to bring Caroline over when the girl cried and begged to see Alice
only two days after her return.
After Caroline arrived, Alice moved to this side of town with her, living in the apartment her grandfather
had given her.
She had to live separately from Apollo because even though Apollo knew of Caroline, Caroline didnât
know him.
Thus, Apollo was taken care of by Archie.
Since Alice was constantly being chased after when she was in Cliaria, Apolloâs identity had always
been kept hidden, as she wouldnât allow her boy to be in danger.
Later on, the boy appeared as Tannerâs son, which was the perfect way to conceal his true identity and
protect himself.
That way, the outsiders would only know that Tanner had a son instead of Alice had a son.
Apollo was a member of the Wolands, and he was smarter and more mature than most children, so he
knew a lot about the Wolandsâ affairs.
However, Caroline was oblivious to all of this, and Alice only hoped that Caroline could live a simple,
safe, and happy life.
Perhaps it was because Apollo was known as Tannerâs son that even Ethan couldnât find out about
Apolloâs relationship with Alice.
âIâll come to pick up Caroline tomorrow. And⦠you, too.â Ethan sent Alice to the entrance of the
apartment building but didnât mention anything about heading up, even though Caroline was right
upstairs.
Even though they had just gotten married today!
âOkay.â Alice didnât want to see him, as he was good at driving people crazy.
However, she knew she couldnât change his decision, so she didnât bother struggling anymore.
From what he said, it was clear that she was just an accessory, and there was no point in struggling for
her.
Caleb was standing afar, thinking, This is Mr. Knightâs first time sending a girl home. Does he feel
nervous? Would he feel uneasy? Would heâ¦
Alice didnât have the mood to muse over these things as she was only thinking about how to tell
Caroline about this.
She didnât even glance at Ethan and went straight into the building. Then, she headed directly to the
elevator without any reluctance.
Caleb blinked and wondered why she left so quickly. After all, Ethan was still standing outside the door,
and it would have been better if she had at least spared a glance at him.
Ethan had never been in a relationship before; this was his first time sending a girl home. Caleb
couldnât help but wonder if Aliceâs behavior would discourage Ethan. She should have given Mr. Knight
some encouragement. That way, he can try harder in the future!
Caleb couldnât see Ethanâs expression clearly in the dark, but he felt that his young master looked
lonely and pitiful while standing alone.
Ethan suddenly turned around and fixed his gaze on Caleb, sending chills down Calebâs spine and
making him straighten his posture immediately.
Looking at the man before him, Caleb realized the words âlonelinessâ and âpitifulâ could never be
associated with Ethan.
When Alice returned home, Caroline was still awake as she was playing with the lady in charge of
taking care of her.
Ethan would come to pick up Caroline tomorrow, so Alice had to explain the situation to her, but she
had no idea how to break the news to the girl.
Alice figured she should play the role of the villain in this situation, as she would ultimately have to
separate from Caroline.
âSweetie, Mommy just sold you,â she started with a rather sad tone.
âReally? How much did you sell me for?â Carolineâs eyes lit up suddenly as if she was brimming with
excitement.
Baffled, Alice blinked a few times, wondering why the girl would look so excited after being told she
was sold.
âSeventy-two million.â At the thought of the money in her bank account, Alice couldnât help but marvel
at Ethanâs wealth and impulsive actions.
Of course, she wouldnât take any of his money. All of that money was for Caroline.
âWow! So much money! Weâre rich! Weâre rich! This is great! Mommy, send me to them first, and then
Iâll sneak back. After that, we can spend the money together.â The little girl was excited when she heard
about the money. She kept jumping up and down in joy.
Alice was left speechless, however.
When did I raise a little bandit for a daughter? Did something go wrong with how I educated her?
Though, that certainly was not the case. Alice had always been attentive to instilling correct values in
her children. She even studied and researched extensively on the topic.
In that case, it has to be Cecilia. What had she been teaching Caroline while I was away? This was
supposed to be a sad scene. How did it turn out like this?
âSweetie, not only did I sell you, but I also sold myself.â Alice wasnât intentionally trying to burst
Carolineâs bubble.
It was just that she had already sold herself to Ethan, so Carolineâs plan of sneaking away and splitting
the money with her probably wouldnât work.
âHow much did you sell yourself for, then?â The little girlâs focus was slightly different.
âNot even a dime.â As soon as she said that, Alice froze for a moment. Then, her lips visibly twitched.
Those seventy-two million were for Caroline, while she didnât get a penny. In Ethanâs eyes, Alice was
worthless!
The fact really hurt.
However, if it werenât for Caroline, she and Ethan wouldnât have crossed paths with each other. She bet
he wouldnât even know who she was.
As for that night, it was purely an accident, and Ethan didnât even know it was her!
âMommy, I have seventy-two million, so Iâll share half with you. I can give you thirty-six dollars.â
Caroline was still thinking about the hefty sum of money and was generous enough to give half of it to
Alice.
Though, Alice couldnât help but think something wasnât right.
It was then a realization struck her. Half of seventy-two million is thirty-six?!
