Chapter 66

Some of the terms in the agreement strongly resonated with Alice. It appears that Mr. Knight shares the

same way of thought as me. That’s great news!

There were a few points concerning Caroline that made Alice feel uneasy. She couldn’t bear to part

with the little girl, but she knew that the people in the Knights were Caroline’s true family, and the girl

would eventually have to return to them. Alice had to let go of her slowly. Besides, the things that

Britney mentioned were all acceptable. All of them were proposed for Caroline’s sake, so Alice was at

ease, knowing that Britney truly cared about Caroline.

She picked up a pen and quickly signed her name at the bottom.

Britney did not expect her to sign the agreement with little hesitation. So, she subconsciously asked,

“Did you read everything carefully?”

Britney thought that Alice might not have read everything.

“Yes, I’ve read everything carefully.” Alice naturally understood the underlying meaning of her words.

She looked up at Britney and gave her a nod, smiling.

Britney was slightly baffled at the sight of Alice’s smiling face. Once again, she couldn’t help reminding

Alice, “Um, please take a closer look at the ninth and tenth clauses.”

Alice gave her an affirmative nod once more as she replied, “I’ve read them carefully.”

True to her words, she had indeed looked at those two clauses specifically and read them cautiously.

“Do you understand the meaning behind this?” Britney pursed her lips and explained, “Six months later,

you will leave the Knight Family and end your marriage with Ethan. You will have no further relationship

with the Knights and cannot use any excuses to meet with Ethan again.”

It was the first time she had done something like this. She looked unnatural, but she had to play the

villain for her son’s sake.

“Yes, I know.” Alice continued to nod. The terms were stated clearly in the agreement, so there was no

need for an explanation from Britney, as she understood everything.

“Don’t worry. Our family will compensate you,” said Britney. She felt surprised and guilty that Alice was

so cooperative. Alice agreed to the agreement so readily, so Britney couldn’t help but feel guilty for

doing something like this.

“Okay.” Alice didn’t directly refuse her offer, as she could tell Britney felt guilty. Besides, if she had

refused now, Britney might think she was still plotting something.

“Caroline will be staying with the Knight Family. You will have to slowly distance yourself from her so

she can gradually get used to living without you. This is for her own good.” Britney had thought this

through beforehand. At first, she had wanted to sound more assertive to prevent Alice from harboring

any illusions or improper thoughts. However, now that she was reciting these words again, she didn’t

have the imposing manner she had anticipated. Somehow, she even felt sheepish when she said it, but

she had to do so.

“Okay, I understand. Please rest assured, Mrs. Knight.” Alice had already mused over this issue, so

she didn’t think anything was wrong with her proposal.

On the contrary, she thought Britney was very thoughtful in considering Caroline’s condition.

“I’m not saying you can’t meet Caroline in the future. If you miss her or she misses you, you can still

see each other.” Britney wasn’t heartless. She was merely worried about her son and didn’t want his

lifelong happiness ruined.

She wasn’t good at making things difficult for others.

“Mrs. Knight, you will be a wonderful grandmother.” Alice suddenly smiled. She understood Britney’s

thoughts and could see that she genuinely cared for Caroline.

“Who told you that?” Britney blushed a little before continuing, “As long as you don’t have any ideas

about Ethan, everything else will be fine.”

“Please don’t worry, Mrs. Knight. I know my place and why Mr. Knight wanted to marry me. I won’t think

about things I shouldn’t.” Alice had never thought about taking advantage of Ethan, so Britney’s

concern was unnecessary.

“You’re not as stupid as people say you are.” Britney was surprised by her understanding.

Alice smiled but didn’t explain further. Only a few people knew the truth about that matter. Naturally,

she wouldn’t tell Britney, either.

“Do you need a job? I can arrange one for you in Knight Group.” Britney seemed a little regretful after

suggesting this. Then, she added, “If you have a job, Caroline won’t be sticking to you every day.”

“Thanks, but no thanks. I can find a job myself.” Alice directly refused the offer since she couldn’t work

at Knight Group. According to the agreement, she would leave the Knight Family in half a year, so it

was best to avoid too much interaction.

Her parents’ revenge had yet settled, and there was also the matter of Apollo. She knew Ethan only

married her to bring Caroline back to the Knights. Thus, she never envisioned her marriage with Ethan

would last forever.

Six months. I can say goodbye to Mr. Knight and be free after that.

When Alice thought back to the time when Ethan stopped her at Irvin’s place, she wondered if he was

the man from seven years ago.

She had initially thought that if Apollo were willing, she would talk to Ethan about doing a paternity test.

However, with the newly signed agreement in hand, she temporarily set aside the idea of doing a

paternity test. Perhaps, she was overthinking, or maybe he wasn’t there to stop her that day. After all,

she didn’t look like herself at all as she had disguised herself when she went to Irvin’s place. Moreover,

Ethan didn’t even mention anything about it when they met yesterday.

He didn’t bring up the events from seven years ago, nor did he mention stopping someone.

Perhaps, she was just overthinking. Maybe, it was all just a coincidence.

Alice came out of the study. Just as she was about to find Caroline, her phone suddenly rang.

When she saw it was a call from Bruce, she raised her eyebrow slightly. It took him three days to finally

discover the problem?! Such a speed is slower than a snail moving its house! She couldn’t help herself

complaining in her mind.

She had previously overestimated his ability. She had realized he was not only a scoundrel but also

had no business acumen.

She let the phone ring without answering, and as soon as the ringtone ceased, it started ringing again.

This went on for a while, with Bruce making five calls in a row and showing no signs of giving up.

It was clear that he was anxious.

Of course, he was anxious. Each of the traps Alice had set up for him was enough to make him lose his

head.

She finally answered when the phone rang for the sixth time as she wanted to see what problem he

had discovered after three days. I can’t wait to see which land mine he has dug up.
