Chapter 87
Ethan’s Vengeance of Love
Rosy was reminded of the contract she asked Alice to sign. Sheâs been abiding by the terms really well.
âSheâs not as bad as the rumors say she is.â
âTold you the rumors canât be trusted. Only fools do that.â Lawrence never trusted any rumors. He knew
barely any of them were true.
âBut itâs true she wanted to marry Bruce. She even gave him her company before they got married.â
Rosy heaved a sigh. âBut she does know her place in the family, at least.â
Lawrence looked at her and cocked his brow. âA bit too much, I reckon.â
âIsnât that good?â Rosy shot him a weird look. That makes things easier when it comes to the breakup.
âThe fact sheâs doing her part too well means sheâs calm and collected. It means she has nothing she
wants from us. None at all.â Lawrence paused for a moment, then he added, âAnd she expects nothing
from our family or its members.â
Sheâs calm, collected, and wonât even be fazed even when presented with a mountain of wealth. Even
if the best man in the world were to stand in front of her, she wouldnât fall for him if she thinks heâs not
hers. She knows her place in the family. She knows her role, and she doesnât expect anything from
Ethan. Yes, she doesnât feel any affection for him. Judging from her attitude, that wonât change anytime
soon.
âWe can give her some recompense.â Rosy was feeling a little guilty too.
âShe might not be interested in anything you have to give.â Lawrence looked at Ethan. Noticing the
dark look on his face, he chuckled. âSomeone else is interested in her, though.â
âWhat?â Rosy wanted to ask what he meant by that, but Ethan and Alice had come in, so she stopped.
Alice said, âHello, Mr. and Mrs. Knight.â
Ethan stopped in his tracks and looked at Alice coldly. Mr. and Mrs. Knight? Thatâs how she calls my
parents? Who does she think she is, the servant? Iâm her husband. What does she call me, then? Oh,
wait, sheâs been calling me Mr. Knight all this time. So, who am I to her? An acquaintance?
Lawrence would have corrected Alice in the usual times, but seeing his son so miffed amused him, so
he simply smiled. âYouâre back.â
âIs Caroline asleep?â Alice asked. Caroline was the only reason she married Ethan, after all.
âNo. She was ranting a bit because she didnât see you. I was going to heat her milk. Here, take it to
her.â Rosy handed the milk to Alice.
Alice took the milk. She didnât even look at Ethan, so she didnât realize he was looking miffed.
Lawrence looked at him, and he laughed. Alice then went to Carolineâs room and settled everything,
then she went to sleep.
When she woke up the next day, she saw Ethanâs text, to her surprise. It was a short text telling her
that he was going on a business trip for two days. Alice forgot about it right away.
Two days later, she got a call from Archie. âThereâs something I must tell you, Alice. Apollo went to
Dallians this afternoon. By himself.â
âWhy did he go to Dallians?â Wait, what? âHe went there alone?â
âYes. He was at home this morning, but he wasnât when I got back. All he left was a message saying he
must go to Dallians. He sent the servant home too.â
Alice felt her blood freeze. The boyâs only seven. Why did he go to Dallians alone? What if something
were to happen to him? She couldnât imagine it if he was hurt. It would be her fault. She had been
spending most of her time with Caroline lately. The girl was still young and Alice didnât have much time
left with her, so she spent more time with Caroline and ended up neglecting Apollo.
She would see the boy every day, but Caroline was down with a cold today and wouldnât leave her, so
she stayed at the residence. She did call Apollo earlier, but he sounded fine. He was staying with
Archie and Alice had hired a servant to take care of him, so Alice didnât think something like this would
happen.
âDonât worry, though. I checked, and heâs coming back. Heâs almost at the airport. I canât leave my post
now, so can you pick him up?â That was why Archie called. If it werenât because he couldnât leave, he
wouldnât have told Alice about this.
âRight away,â Alice said. She must see the boy no matter what. Out of panic, she didnât even put on any
disguise. In case she was followed, Alice got a cab to the airport instead of driving her car.
When she arrived at the airport, Ethan had just disembarked as well. In her panic, she didnât see Ethan,
but Ethan saw her. He stopped and looked at her as she hurried into the airport, and he narrowed his
eyes. Why is she here? And in such a hurry too. Somethingâs up. Letâs see what else sheâs hiding from
me.
Caleb tossed the luggage into the car. He thought it was odd Ethan wasnât moving, but he didnât say
anything.
âJust a minute,â Ethan explained for once. He was giving the leaving Alice a conflicted look.
Caleb looked in the direction Ethan was looking. When he saw Alice, he realized why Ethan told him to
wait. I see, so itâs the madam. âShe must be here to welcome you.â That was the reason that Caleb
could come up with. That must be why sheâs here.
Ethan frowned. I donât think so. I didnât tell her the exact time I was coming back, nor did I tell her to
welcome me. All I did was tell her I would be on a business trip for two days. The only information she
has is that Iâm coming back home today.
