Chapter 99

Ethan’s Vengeance of Love

Ethan’s eyes flickered. This wasn’t the first time she gave him the silent treatment. Ever since they got

married, that was her attitude, especially when it came to public spaces where they were seen

together. That attitude she gave him wasn’t because of Keith, but still, he was mad because she didn’t

refuse Keith’s proposal right away.

She knows she’s married right? Ethan realized that even though they were married, she still seemed

like she had no idea she was married. I knew she’d be a big annoyance.

After they left the club, Keith wanted to ask Alice more about the marriage, but his boss sent him a text.

There was a situation that required his presence. Seeing how serious the situation was, he quickly left

Alice. That talk will have to wait.

Alice went to Majestic Plaza to see Apollo.

“Are you sure you have the right one? Who is he?” Apollo was obviously concerned about the identity

of his father, and he asked Alice the moment she arrived.

“He’s Keith Rowland. I’m not sure if he’s your father, so I’m going to check.” Alice seldom saw the boy

being so enthusiastic about anything. Guess he really wants a father.

“I got some of his hair, now I need some of yours for the paternity test.” He’s looking forward to it, so I

have to find the answers as soon as possible.

“Sure.” Apollo plucked a few strands of his hair for his mother. “What are the chances?”

Alice looked at the boy. He might seem nonchalant, but she knew he was nervous. That meant he was

really concerned, and he really was. Alice was almost sure that Keith was the father, but she didn’t

want to give him too much hope. He might be let down if Keith wasn’t the father, so she said, “Fifty-fifty

chance?”

“That’s good. If he is my father, I’m going to seek him out and have him raise me. You’ve done a lot to

raise me all these years,” said Apollo seriously.

Alice paused for a moment, and then she laughed. She was more than capable of raising the boy, and

Apollo was already making money himself. He was self-sufficient and needed no one else’s help. That

was just an excuse for him to seek out his father.

Guess I underestimated the importance of a father. No matter how nice I am to him, I can never fill that

void. Not to mention I’m always busy, so I don’t really have time for him. I hope this test can give us the

result we want so he can seek out his father.

Alice was going to have the paternity test done that afternoon, but Archie needed help, so she went

over to lend a hand. Work took a few hours, and it was already eight before she knew it. Caroline was

already calling her then, so she had to return to Knight Residence.

When she came back, Ethan was sitting on the couch on the first floor going through his files.

“Mr. Knight.” She didn’t have any reservations when she was at home, and greetings came easily to

her.

Ethan looked at her. The files in front of him were just for show and he wasn’t reading them. Finally

home. He checked the time. Eight forty. Well, well. She left with Keith in the afternoon and dragged the

meeting until this time? And this is how she addresses me after hours of waiting? I still need her to

answer my questions about that meeting with Keith. Fine. I’ll do it all right now. He was about to grill her

for answers.

However, Caroline had come downstairs because she heard Alice’s voice. “You’re back, Mommy. I’ve

missed you.”

Rosy visibly heaved a sigh of relief when she saw Alice. “You’re back. She wouldn’t even bathe unless

she saw you.”

Caroline wouldn’t let go of Alice, so she picked the girl up. “Let’s bathe, then it’s time to sleep.”

Caroline was already five, and she weighed about thirty pounds.

Ethan blurted, “Get down, Caroline. You can go upstairs yourself.” Unlike the usual tone he took with

Caroline, Ethan spoke sternly.

“Oh, okay.” Caroline realized she might tire Alice out. “It’s okay, Mommy. Put me down. I can go

upstairs by myself.”

Alice wasn’t one to spoil her children, so she put the girl down. Caroline happily went ahead, while

Alice followed.

Ethan looked at Alice and smirked. You can’t run away from me forever. Once Caroline falls asleep, it’s

time for the questioning.

Rosy looked at Ethan and realized he was staring at Alice, and it concerned her. It’s been a while since

Caroline came back to us, but she’s still clinging to Alice. Alice was nice to Caroline, and she didn’t

mind her around the girl, but she was worried a spark might develop between Alice and Ethan. He was

concerned about Alice.

Caroline was always a nice little girl when Alice was around, and she bathed herself. She didn’t even

need Alice’s help for the most part.

I only have six months left with her. I have to make sure she gets used to life without me. “Sweetie, can

we talk for a bit? If someday I don’t come back, make sure you listen to your grandma, alright?”

Caroline paused for a moment, but she didn’t ask too much. She nodded. “Of course, Mommy.”

Alice wanted to say more, but she couldn’t, not when Caroline was being so nice. “You should watch

some TV while I get showered. I’ll tell you a bedtime story after that.” Alice was already sweating from

running around so much, and her clothes were drenched after Caroline showered. It felt clammy on

her.

“Sure.” Caroline broke into a smile and nodded. “I’ll get you your pajamas.” She darted out and

retrieved Alice’s pajamas.

Alice shared a room with Caroline in this residence, so most of her clothes were in Caroline’s room.

“Take your clothes off, Mommy. I’ll wash them for you.” Caroline didn’t leave after she handed the

pajamas over. Instead, she stared at Alice with anticipation in her eyes. “I’m a big girl now. I can help

Mommy. I can take care of you.” She wanted to do something for Alice so she would love her more and

wouldn’t leave her.

Alice froze. When she met the girl’s passionate gaze, she teared up. She knew what the girl was

thinking and she really didn’t want to leave her either, but this wasn’t something she could change.

“Sure. Take the laundry to the balcony and place it on the washing machine.” She took her clothes off

and handed them to the girl.

“Don’t worry. I know what to do.” Caroline was buzzing with excitement. She didn’t say no. I can help

her now, yay. She took the clothes and ran toward that balcony. Hm, every time Mommy washes her

laundry, she’d take everything out of her pockets. She rifled through the pockets as Alice did. Alice

wore a dress with pockets today.

She rifled through the pockets and found a small, transparent bag. She took it out and saw a few

strands of hair inside. Short and black. Not Mommy’s. But it was in her pocket, so whose hair is this?

Could it be Daddy’s? Caroline blinked and quickly ran downstairs. She wanted to find out if the hair she

found was Ethan’s.
