Chapter 22-The Confession
Sydney Carrington's POV
Brendon Kingston
The name was scrawled on my skin as if it was a tattoo. My fingers lingered on the letters and a shiver wrecked through me.
Just touching it had such a reaction. I sighed and traced the lettering on my left wrist gently. Weeks have passed since the Blood Exchange has been done and sometimes it felt as if it never happened. Like it was all a dream.
But the proof was on my wrist and when I was younger, I had thought the whole business of it was romantically lovely. Now? I thought it was a weakness. If anyone wanted Kingston dead, they could simply kill me and he would be dead too. I was obviously the weaker part of our bond.
I didn't like that I was potentially a weakness for Kingston. If anything ever happened to Kingston because of me, it would definitely be my fault. At the thought of something bad happening to Kingston, the wolf let out a threatening growl and paced warily around my head.
It was no surprise that my wolf was already fully bonded to Kingston. And why not? I loved that Kingston cared so much about me that he actually wanted to get justice for me. But the way he went about it was wrong.
I peered into the mirror and craned my neck slightly to the left to look at the mark Kingston had given me. The horrible scars were gone and all was left was a faint mark of Kingston's bite.
Thinking back, it was clear that I had been so impulsive and immature from the way I had behaved. But I was still twenty and well, still growing and learning about how to deal with different situations. After all, life was all about making mistakes and learning from them.
And now, I was pretty proud to say that I was no longer that impulsive hotheaded girl who acted rashly without thinking of the consequences. Being here in the European pack was a learning experience for me to grow and to mature.
Dealing with Kingston wasn't an easy feat either. He was temperamental, moody and easily provoked and well stubborn and hotheaded. It didn't help one bit when his wolf was exactly like him.
However, he had a softer side, a side that no one else really sees. And that side was only shown to Cara and I. Now that I have accepted the bond between Kingston and I, I was more inclined to be fully bonded with him. And that meant heading to third base.
Shivers went through my body at that and I looked down at Kingston's name on my wrist once more. A smile crept onto my face at the thought of Kingston. We had been spending more time together but a part of my smile faded as the events of yesterday filtered through my head.
I knew Kingston still refused to let Will and Giselle go due to ideology of justice but it wasn't right. And when I had requested for him to let them go, a stubborn glint in his eyes appeared and I knew he wasn't going to do so.
But today, I would have to persuade him. I didn't want a war. No one did. But that was going to happen if Kingston didn't release them back to the North American pack.
"Sydney are you leaving the room anytime soon? You said you were going to help to pack my room!" Sean called out as he knocked on the bathroom door repeatedly.
I sighed and pushed a curl behind my ear. "Yeah! I'm coming out now." Today, Sarah and I were going to help Sean in sorting his room out. I exited the bathroom and spotted Sean lying on the ground with an exasperated look on his face. "Oh good, you're finally out!"
I simply rolled my eyes in response and together we headed to the pack house.
***
"Oh what the hell! It smells like crap in here!" I grumble as I entered the room and held onto my nose.
Sean made a face and stuck his tongue out at me. "It's my room and no one asked you to be here." He points out and I cross my arms, not wanting to give in. "Yeah well-is that a banana peel under your bed?" I demanded as I caught sight of the item.
"Oh right, must have forgotten to throw it out." Sean mumbled and shrugged before taking the banana peel and threw it into the trash. I shut my eyes and shuddered in disgust.
Sean scoffed at me before throwing a sock in my direction. I quickly jerked to my right to avoid it just as it hit Sarah in the face. "Eww what the hell?!"
I stifled a laugh and Sean burst into laughter. "What? I'm here to help you pack and you're throwing your dirty laundry at me?" Sarah demanded but I could see a twitch of a smile on her face.
Sean rolled his eyes before slumping onto the bed. "Whatever, are you going to just stand there or help?"
Sarah huffed and together, we began sorting through the few boxes and stuff. To be fair, Sarah and Sean didn't bring with them all of their belongings to the European pack. But they had brought enough.
"Sarah, were you sleeping at Rhett's the past few days?" I asked slyly as we sorted through some of Sean's clothing.
Sean ignored us as he began sorting through one of his drawers. "What? Of course not. What makes you say that?"
I scoffed and shot her a knowing look. "Someone's pants must really be on fire." I mumbled and Sarah shot a glare at me. "Come on Sarah, I heard rumours that someone has her lips locked with a certain beta and also that some of your clothes are missing from your wardrobe."
Sarah sputtered indignantly as her cheeks turned red. "What?!"
"I mean, I even realised some of your other items were gone as well. How intriguing." I replied with a smirk and Sarah glared at me, "Well what about you and Kingston? Having fun now that both of you are the only occupants in the house?"
"Sarah!" I gasped and opened my mouth to retort when Sean interrupted us.
"Okay, thats enough! I don't want to hear anything about my sisters' sex lives!" Sean growls and glares at us.
Sarah rolls her eyes while I could feel my cheeks turning red. "Oh what the hell." I mumble and Sarah burst into raucous laughter at my expression.
The thought of being that intimate with Kingston was something that I had pondered on for several times. Even the way he made me feel was something different altogether. His kisses were electrifying and his touch on my body sent sparks of desire racing up every single nerve in my body.
Kissing Kingston was incredible. Every touch and caress of his lips always sent me into a puddle of female hormones while I would cling onto him like he was my only source of air.
And I had a rough guess that Kingston didn't knew the full effect he had on me because if he did, he would have probably used to his full advantage.
"Is anyone hungry?" Sarah complained as she stuffed another of Sean's shirts into a drawer.
"Me! Let's take a break!" Sean called out as he quickly left the room while Sarah and I followed him down to the kitchen.
Once we had our snacks, Sarah and Sean went back up to continue while I cleaned up. To be honest, I would have rather cleaned up the mess we had made and the dirty dishes than to clean up Sean's room. That was how bad it was.
While in the midst of cleaning, a tall leggy brunette entered and she gave me a smile. "Luna, I'm Kelsey, I don't think we have met before."
I offered her a smile and shook her hand. "Hi. I don't think I've met you before. Do you stay in the pack house?"
Kelsey nodded, her pretty brown eyes sparkling. "Yes. With some of the other girls. So how are things with being the Luna? It must be pretty challenging isn't it?"
I laughed and took a sip from my soda and shrugged. "I guess its okay. Alpha Kingston hasn't really given me much to do yet."
A mischievous smile crossed her face. "Are you sure? I heard he's pretty good at giving in bed."
I stifled a cough and I could feel my eyes becoming wide and my cheeks turning bright red. "What?"
"Yeah. I mean he's really good at it." Kelsey sighs dreamily and for a moment I wondered what she was trying to imply. Another question in my head popped in and I wondered if she was among the few women that Kingston had been with before I arrived.
And I was probably right considering Kingston had admitted to me that he had slept around before meeting me. I didn't hold that against him. I mean why should I? That was in his past and I wasn't going to fault him for that.
I could feel a little jealousy appearing but I squashed it down. I wasn't mad, I was just a little awkward. Talking to one of your mate's ex-women about sex? Bloody awkward as hell.
"Oh but don't worry, Alpha Kingston hasn't seen anyone ever since you came." She quickly added in as soon as she saw my expression. I nodded and looked away before sipping from my glass of soda.
And of course, the universe was really against me because Kingston came into the kitchen. He stopped when he saw me before a gleam of playfulness entered his eyes. "Alpha Kingston." Kelsey greeted as she kept her head down.
"Sydney. What are you doing here?" He ignores her and questions me as he headed towards where I was sitting.
I offered him a smile. "I'm taking a break from helping Sean with his room." Kingston nodded his head before pressing a kiss on my forehead. At his action, I took a tiny peek at Kelsey who was watching us with a small blush on her face.
My mood turned a little sour at that and I briefly wondered if she blushing at Kingston's slight display of affection or if she was reminiscing about the times when Kingston slept with her.
"Are you ready to go? I'm heading back home and we could catch a movie again. The car is outside." Kingston asked lowly as his silver eyes were locked onto mine.
At his question, my mood slowly lifted and I gave him a bright smile. "Of course. You can wait in the car and I'll say my goodbyes to my siblings before meeting you there."
Kingston nodded and pressed a kiss to my cheek before moving away from me. "Alpha." Kelsey lowered her head in greeting and Kingston barely acknowledged her as he spoke tonelessly before leaving. "Kelsey."
My dark mood was completely lifted at that and I gave a quick smile and farewell to Kelsey before making my way to Sean's room to tell them I was heading home.
The drive home was comfortably silent but I couldn't help but wonder if Kingston remembered Kelsey as one of his bedmates. I wasn't mad or anything, just really curious.
Entering the house, I couldn't help but ask with a small teasing smile on my face. "So you really did not know who was that?" At my question, a frown wrinkled onto Kingston's face as he raised his eyebrows. "Who?"
"Kelsey. Apparently you and her were more than Alpha and pack member." I replied lightly as I took off my denim jacket. A wary look entered Kingston's silver eyes as he scrutinised me.
"I do know that but that was before I met you-"
"Don't worry, you don't have to be so defensive, I'm not mad or anything, just mildly curious. And I know you're not like Will who cheated on me..." I trailed off uncomfortably with a shrug.
A relieved expression crossed Kingston's face as he pulled me into his arms. "Good. There's only you Sydney. No one else." He lowers his head and presses a kiss on my lips before pulling away. "You can pick the movie this time if you beat me to the cinema room."
A smile broke onto my face and I quickly raced Kingston, but of course I won due to Kingston slowing down at the last minute.
***
"Never thought that you would pick that movie." Kingston admitted as he ran his fingers through his hair. "What? Can't girls watch science-fiction films?" I asked defensively as I brushed my hair before getting ready for bed.
"Never said you couldn't. I'm just surprised." Kingston answered as he took his shirt off. Averting my eyes, I quickly got into bed and waited for Kingston to join me.
Honestly, I didn't know how he could sleep with his shirt off, the weather was pretty cold and I was surprised he wouldn't freeze to death but this was Kingston we were talking about.
Suddenly the thought of Will and Giselle on pack lands entered my mind and I guessed it was the best time to bring it up. "Kingston, did you think about it?"
"What?"
"About releasing Will and Giselle." I answered cautiously, waiting for Kignston's outburst and of course, I wasn't disappointed.
"What the hell are you talking about? Releasing them? They made use of you, tormented you, would even have killed you and you want to show them mercy?" He demands incredulously as his eyes narrowed.
I sigh and slumped my shoulders. "Yes but release them. I'm over it. I just want to forget about them."
Kingston barked out a bitter laugh. "You're kidding. Anyway, I thought we already came to a decision to leave them where they are until their last breath?"
At this, I scoffed and frowned at him, "No, that was your decision." I pointed out and Kingston glared at me. "Why can't you just let this topic go? That beta and the female do not deserve one bit of your compassion and mercy!"
My gaze went down to the covers and I say quietly, "Sometimes you have to be the bigger person and let things go. Harbouring on all of this wouldn't do me any good."
Kingston scoffed at my words before crossing his arms and stared me down. "But it will make me feel better."
"If you kill them, I'll feel the guilt for the rest of my life." I say quietly. At this Kingston stops and stares down at me stunned. A look of total surprise flash across his face as he looks down at me with an expression of total astonishment.
Feeling uncomfortable under his intense gaze, I shifted and looked away. "Alright, I'll release them."
My jaw almost dropped at this sudden surrender of his and I couldn't help but just gape at him. "W-what?"
"I said I'll release them." Kingston answers impatiently and I blurted out, "Why? You were so adamant about not releasing them before."
Kingston seemed to hesitate before his eyes met mine as he said softly. "I love you Sydney, I'll do it for you."
Now, I was pretty sure my eyes were the size of golfballs and my jaw had actually hit the ground. "W-what?" I stammered, unable to believe what I just heard.
"Sydney, I love you. It's okay if you don't feel the same way. You won't even look at me straight in the eye for long. But its alright, I'll wait for you however long it may take." He says quietly, his silver-grey eyes locked onto me.
I gasp and stammered, "I-"
"You don't have to say anything. Maybe one day, you'll say the vows back." He says quietly as he rubs his thumb affectionately on my left wrist where his name lay from the Blood Exchange.
With that, he caressed my right cheek gently, tracing my cheekbones before pressing a kiss on my forehead and walked out of the room leaving me still sitting on the bed, shocked beyond belief.
I was too stunned to react and was left staring at his retreating figure.
