Epilogue

4 Years Later

Brendon Kingston's POV

"And the dinosaur ate him up."

I took one of Cayden's many stuffed dinosaur before using it to maul the other dinosaur in Cayden's hand.

"Roaaaarrr!" Cayden shouted as he grabbed the stuffed toy in my hand and the one he was holding making them hit each other. A smile lit onto my face as my son played with his toys on the living room floor.

Neither Sydney or I had any idea where Cayden's fascination with dinosaurs came from. "Daddy! You're supposed to be the green one!" He pouted and I could feel my heart squeeze a little at that sight.

"Alright." I murmured and Cayden happily mimicked me and staged a dinosaur war.

Cayden Jasper Kingston had made his arrival four years ago. Sydney had claimed that she was lucky as hell to be only in labour for three hours. Judging by the nail marks on my arm, I would have to say I agreed with her.

Cayden had my dark hair and Sydney's blue eyes, though I had to say that he had Sydney's mostly outgoing personality rather than my quiet reserved one. Although he was only four years old, he was already showing strong signs of being an Alpha.

"And then, he tore the head off the other animal!" Cayden shouted as he pretended for the dinosaur he was holding to 'bite' the stuffed deer in his hand.

I blinked at that. I knew Sydney nor I had ever taught our son that sort of thing. Clenching my jaw, I already knew who the culprit was.

Sydney had thought it would be a good idea to let Sarah and Rhett babysit Cayden occasionally but I had disagreed. This was most probably due to the fact that at times, Rhett could act like he was the child instead.

But, what was done was already done. I sighed and glanced at the clock, seeing that it was already noon. This was Cayden's lunch time and if he was hungry, things were going to turn ugly.

"Come on buddy, time for lunch. We can continue playing after." I said and gestured to Cayden to come with me.

Cayden scrutinised me before giving in and mumbled. "Fine." Standing up, I scooped up Cayden into my arms and entered the kitchen where Sydney had already prepared his lunch before leaving to take care of some organising issue.

"When's mommy coming back?" Cayden questioned as he shoved spoonfuls of macaroni into his mouth. I watched him and shrugged. "In about an hour." I answered and Cayden nodded his head before continuing to eat.

Looking at my son, it wasn't uncommon for me to have that sudden warm feeling of awe and disbelief whenever I looked at him. Never had I imagined that in just a few years, I was happily mated and had a family that I would die for.

Glancing around the house, I noticed the obvious changes that was apparent when one had a child. As usual, the kitchen was spotless with alphabet magnets on the fridge with Cayden's drawings of dinosaurs.

There was a toy or two on the kitchen floor and I was sure that there were many around the house in a similar fashion. Plastic plates and cups adorned the dish rack and having a baby chair in the corner of the kitchen which Cayden had outgrown.

It still amazed me that my life had changed drastically in just four years. It was a change that I had embraced willingly and there was nothing I would do to change the life I had now. For the first time in my life, I could say that my life was perfect the way it was.

Life was fantastically perfect.

Seeing that Cayden had finished his lunch, I washed up and ushered him back to the living room and upon his request, I pressed for a movie to play. And naturally, it was a dinosaur related movie.

Sometimes, I still marvelled at the fact that Cayden was so much like Sydney that it made my mind spin. He shared his love for movies like his mom. Cayden also enjoyed fingerprinting when he would dip his whole hand into a bucket of paint and splatter his hand all over a canvas.

Hearing soft snores coming from beside me, I looked down from the dinosaur movie to see Cayden clutching his favourite stuffed dinosaur sleeping. A smile broke onto my face at that sight and I switched the movie off before cradling my son into my arms before making my way to his bedroom.

Laying him down in his bed, I pulled the covers over him and watched my son silently, knowing that there wasn't anything I wouldn't do for him.

I never told Sydney or anyone that I was still pondering on my past. Now that I had a son and wife that I loved so much that it made my heart ache, I couldn't understand why my father didn't care for me like I did for Cayden.

And I hated to admit that it stung. That up till now in my life, I still wondered why my father didn't care for me along with my mother. I definitely had issues.

However, I guess that Sydney knew about this feelings I had despite me not telling her. How? I did not know but in a way I was glad that she did. Because every time those thoughts of my parents entered my mind, Sydney would quietly tell me she loved me and hug me. Immediately, those thoughts and harsh words of my father would fade.

I gently traced a finger down Cayden's cheek and he wrinkled his nose in response. I quietly exited his room and gently shut the bedroom door before making my way down to the living room.

It was when the door opened and I looked up to see Sydney entering. "Hey." She beamed brightly and closed the door before kissing my cheek.

"How was the meeting?" I questioned as I laid a kiss on her forehead. Sydney blew out a breath and shrugged. "It was fine. The organising committee finally came to a decision about annual spring festival and I also dropped by the orphanage and guess what! Three of the children were adopted just this week!"

I nodded and hummed as Sydney prattled on. I was listening but my gaze was fixed on the slight bump on her belly. Yes, Sydney was pregnant again. And this time, the baby would be a girl.

Sydney and I had both agreed that we were going to call our first daughter Isabella Cara Kingston. And luckily, due to the checkup from last week, we would have the chance to do so.

The thought of Cara made my heart ache a little, but the pain wasn't as raw like what I had felt four years ago. No matter what, I still viewed Cara as my sister albeit she was only my half-sister.

It was sad that she was gone but at least I knew that she was at peace. Feeling a scrutinising gaze on me, I looked up to see Sydney staring at me. "I miss her too." She said softly and I blinked in surprise.

It never ceased to amaze me that Sydney always knew what I was feeling. I nodded and she hugged me tightly, her arms went around my neck as she nestled her head in the crook of my shoulder.

I remained silent and Sydney pulled away before accidentally stepping on one of Cayden's toys. "Oh shit. Where's Cayden?"

"Sleeping." Sydney nodded and pressed one chaste kiss on my lips before making her way up to our son's room while my gaze was fixed on her swaying hips.

Noticing the toys strewn around the floor, I quickly picked them up and kept them away before Sydney could. After all she was pregnant and all that standing and bending could not be good.

"Oh Brendon! I forgot! Sarah and Rhett and Mason would be coming over for dinner!" Sydney called out and I raised an eyebrow.

"What for?" I questioned as Sydney came into view. My eyes raked over her appearance and even though we have been together for five years, she looked lovelier than ever. Now that she was a little older and a mom, her blonde locks were cut a little shorter than last time. But I had to she she suited it.

"Oh just to catch up and I want to see my little nephew." Sydney waved her hand dismissively. "Is Sean coming?" I asked. It wasn't unusual for the Carrington siblings to have weekly catchup sessions.

"No. He's swamped with projects after projects in college but he says he'll try to come next time." Sydney answered and moved closer to me. I raised an eyebrow at her and she grinned.

She shot me an innocent grin, "Cayden is asleep." She started and I smirked, knowing what she was up to. "I know that, I was there to put him to sleep." I replied dryly. Her arms wrapped around my neck and she gave me a coy look from under her eyelashes.

"And it's a few hours until dinner when Sarah and Rhett arrive." Sydney murmured in my ear and a sly smirk crossed her face as she hinted heavily.

My hands planted themselves on her waist and I growled lowly in her ear. "A few hours is all we need." With that, I swept her up in my arms and her laughter sounded in my ears as I carried her to our bedroom.

"Jesus Sydney, can it be any less obvious what you and Brendon were up to before we arrived?"

I smirked as Sydney rolled her eyes before pulling Sarah into a hug. "Oh shut it. Where's Rhett and Mason?"

Sarah shrugged and gestured behind her. "Outside. They should be coming in now. Where's my cute little nephew?" Sydney nodded and answered that he was still asleep. Sarah laughed and together, the Carrington women entered the kitchen leaving me at the door.

Sometimes, I wondered if Sarah and Sean saw me as their Alpha or just their brother-in-law. But I guessed it was most probably the latter. I sighed and waited for Rhett and their three year old son, Mason.

"Brendon." Rhett greeted as he carried Mason in his arms who was sulking away, no doubt unhappy that he had to wear his shoes. I knew that Rhett and Sarah's son Mason (somehow) disliked wearing shoes.

I thought it was amusing as hell until Cayden started to not wear his pants. But Sydney told me it was just a phase that he would outgrow but I begged to differ considering the thousand of times I had instructed him to put them on.

"The women are in the kitchen." I answered and bit back a grin at the sight of Mason who was scowling at Rhett. Rhett and Sarah had tied themselves to each other during the season three years ago and that very year, Mason was born.

Considering Cayden and Mason were only a year apart, they had become good friends and at least once a week, they would have a playdate of sorts at my house or Rhett's.

Mason had inherited Sarah's jet black locks and green eyes which Rhett was very proud of much to Sarah's dismay. I opened the door wider to take note of the guards around my home.

Unlike the last time, I was prepared for another attack if one should arise. And this time, I wouldn't take any chance. After all, the future Alpha and Beta was in this very house right now.

Shutting the door, I made my way to the dining room where the Carrington women were chatting eagerly and whatnot while Rhett tried to place Mason in the highchair.

Hearing a shout, my eyes immediately went towards Sydney and an unspoken question passed between us. "I'll get him and then we can have dinner." I answered and Sydney gave me a bright smile before turning back to the stove.

I climbed up the stairs and entered Cayden's room. The moment he spotted me, he raised his hands up and I complied as I carried him. "Daddy I'm hungry!" He grumbled and a smile lifted onto my face.

"I know, we'll be having dinner soon." I replied and Cayden sighed before snuggling his head into the crook of my neck. Love and adoration for my son filled my heart and I stroked his back lovingly as we entered the kitchen.

Looking around as we had dinner, surrounded with my family and friends, I came to a realisation that everything I had done in my life and experienced was to come to this very point.

Beside me, I guessed Sydney knew what I was thinking as she reached over and took my left hand in hers and squeezed it comfortingly.

Turning to her, I gave her a tiny smile and pressed a kiss on her forehead much to Rhett and Sarah's disgust. Sydney and I ignored them and she gave me a bright grin.

6 Months Later

"She's beautiful." Sydney cooed as she cradled Isabella. I was too choked up with emotion to speak and I could only nod in agreement.

My eyes were fixed on the small bundle in Sydney's arms and she gave me a breathtaking smile. "Would you want to hold her?"

I nodded once again and slowly cradled Isabella in my arms and watched as she wrinkled her nose and started bawling. I rocked her a little and she quieted down.

It was too soon to say what Isabella's eye colour was or her hair. But she was beautiful. "She's perfect." I spoke once I could finally speak.

I could feel Sydney's eyes on me and I looked up to see her smiling brightly at the sight of me holding onto Isabella. "I can hear Cayden outside. Could you bring him in please?" She questioned and I nodded before passing Isabella back to Sydney carefully.

Opening the door, Cayden immediately barrelled past me and towards his mom and sister. I sat beside them in content as Cayden immediately fired question after question while Sydney answered them patiently.

Eventually, Cayden soon fell asleep in my lap and Isabella fell asleep in Sydney's arms. Feeling overwhelmed, I turned to Sydney who was gazing down at Isabella with love and adoration in her eyes.

"Sydney, thank you for taking a chance on me." I spoke suddenly, emotion was thick in my voice as I looked at Sydney with my heart on my sleeves.

A gentle smile crossed her face and she leaned towards me and kissed me on the lips. "I love you Brendon." She said softly and caressed my cheek with her free hand.

"I love you too. Thank you for giving me the life I have now." I murmured and Sydney gave me a warm smile before leaning her head back onto the pillows in the pack hospital.

Her eyes drifted shut and I couldn't blame her, she was definitely exhausted going through the ten hours of labour trying to deliver Isabella. Gazing down at my family that I would do anything for, contentment and love spread throughout me.

I was finally at peace with myself and my past now that life was complete.
