8. His house

Mahi's POV:

Nitya came into her room with a tray in her hands. She sat beside me on the bed and offered me a glass of orange juice. I took it from her hands and leaned my head on her shoulder.

Last night I came to her house, she was surprised to see me at that hour but didn't ask me anything and let me cry for good two hours after I was content, I told her everything. She consoled me and I don't even know when I fell asleep.

"So many things happened in just the past two days, I got to know that our professor is my mom's best friend and she suddenly turned into a warm and bright person. We signed a contract with one of the biggest talent agencies and the famous Kabir Mehra is the only child of our professor and our agency owner, now my mom wants me to shift to a house where my professor lives with her so-called handsome son." I said not looking at anything in particular.

"Girl your life became a roller coaster and the fact how well Aparna mam hid her son is commendable." Nitya chuckled and I again got lost in my thoughts.

"Stop thinking that much and finish this juice after that you have to go back to your home, Grandpa just messaged me to tell you that he needs you home within an hour." She stood up from bed and went toward her closet.

"Here take this and get changed, my driver will drop you." She handed me a white crop top and wide-leg blue denim pants. I quickly got ready and her driver dropped me at my house.

I took a deep breath before ringing the doorbell. Shanti Tai opened the door and I entered. Everyone was present in the living room, maybe waiting for me but I didn't say a word and started walking toward the stairs.

"Mahi" Grandpa called out my name and I stopped on the tracks. I turned and looked at him. "You know we need to talk." He said and gestured to me to come closer.

"If you are going to talk about the same thing then I don't want to." I said and was about to walk away when again he started "Mahi I said we need to talk and you have to listen to what we have to say." His voice held authority and I sighed.

I walked toward him and took a seat beside him. "I am shifting here in Mumbai." I abruptly turned my head toward him in surprise.

"For real, Oh my god then does it mean we will live together here? This is so great Grandpa when are you shifting or are you not going back anymore?" I was so excited that I forgot everything that captured my mind a few minutes ago.

This was something I always wanted and now he finally decided to live with me here, it will be so much fun and I won't feel lonely anymore.

"I will shift here after 6 months." My excitement died at that exact movement. I was about to say something but he didn't let me.

"First listen to what I have to say, It will take me 6 more months to complete the orphanage paperwork and after that I will let your mother handle it and I will shift here." He said as he looked into my eyes.

"Till then I want you to live with Aparna in her house. I have known her since she was a young girl. She is just like my daughter and I trust her, she will take good care of you. It's just for 6 months then we both will live together here. Won't you do this much for this old man?" No No No! He is trying to emotionally blackmail me, Don't fall for his trap Mahi.

"Mahi you know you can't live alone all by yourself and you just have to live with her for a few months, she was your professor you know her and I feel you trust her too so what's the problem?" he asked.

How do I tell him I just feel embarrassed? She is my professor but now she knows that I am afraid of living alone and what she will think about me if I move into her house.

She might think I am a coward who always needs someone beside her. Also her son is our agency owner for god sake how can I live with him under the same roof!

"Mahi please do this for me. Do you want to make this old man worry about you and have a heart attack?" Here he goes again.

"Grandpa no need to say such things." I took a deep breath and continued "Okay I will do as you say but promise me you'll come back after 6 months and will live with me." I extended my hand and he gave me his hand.

I agreed because I know how stubborn Grandpa can be and it's about for a few months, I will just mind my own business and everything will be alright.

I told myself but deep down I know things won't be easy but I will do this if he will live with me again as he used to do when I was young and nobody was there beside me.

"I promise I will be back and then will spend all of my time with my Mahi." He promised and I hugged him tightly. "Okay now go and pack your stuff you have to leave tomorrow morning." What? Is he serious? Tomorrow is too soon!

"Tomorrow why this soon?" I asked as I pulled back.

"Because we all are leaving for Jaipur tomorrow morning and I want to drop you at Aparna's house myself." He explained as he looked at mom.

"You can't do this Grandpa, it's only been 2 days since you came here, you should at least stay a week." I complained and saw him sighing.

"Orphanage needs my attention so I have to go back but as I said I will come next time and will stay with you only." He said as a small smile made its way to his wrinkled face.

"Okay but today you will spend the whole day with me and we are not negotiating on this." I ordered getting all serious but he chuckled.

"As you wish your highness." he said in a dramatic tone and we all laughed. I ignored mom all this time, I am not doing this for her but just for grandpa.

We spent the whole day playing games, watching movies and tons of chit-chat. At night we went for dinner and even had ice cream, the day was great.

We came back home late at night and I went directly to my room. As soon as I dropped myself on the bed, sleep engulfed me, I was too tired to think about tomorrow.

"Wake up Di we are getting late" Rohan's voice interrupted my beauty sleep.

"What the hell Ro let me sleep yarr" I said hiding my face under the pillow.

"We have a flight at 11 and you have to go to Aparna aunty's house." I jumped on the bed as soon as I registered his words. Oh shit! it is today I quickly got down from the bed and took the black oversized shirt, white tee and grey pants which I kept aside last night for today.

"You go, I'll be there in 10 minutes." I said and almost ran towards the bathroom.

Mahi's outfit

I came downstairs in 10 minutes as I said. Taking a lot of time to get ready was never my thing. Everyone was present at the table and we had breakfast together. We all settled in the car as Grandpa instructed the driver to take us to Aparna aunty's house.

We reached there and got down from the car. Both mother and son were waiting for us, as they were standing outside their house. Aunty smiled as she saw me and I gave her a small smile. I looked at Kabir, he was having an emotionless face.

Even though Aparna aunty agreed but that doesn't mean he will agree too. After all it's his house and who would like some stranger to live in their house for 6 months? Now I regret agreeing with Grandpa on this. Kabir sure doesn't want me here, it's written all over his face. Oh god why the hell am I here?

"Aparna take care of my daughter. She might be a grown up but actually she is just a small clumsy child." Mom said to aunty and everybody laughed. She never leaves a chance to embarrass me.

"Don't worry Jyoti and uncle I will take good care of her, she is just like my daughter." She assured both of them.

"Okay we will be leaving now, Mahi take care okay and call me every day." Grandpa said as he kissed my forehead. I tightly hugged him and he hugged me back. I went to Rohan and told him to look after grandpa and never let him miss his medicines.

We bid our farewell and they left. "Come in Mahi, Let me show you your room." Aparna aunty said as she gestured for me to come in.

"You can show her room afterward right now we need to leave." Kabir said, confusing both of us.

"Where to?" aunty asked his son.

"Today she has to meet her new team from my agency. Her band is going to be there so she needs to come and I am going to the office so I will take her with me." He said and I remembered today we were supposed to meet our team.

"Okay but make sure you both come home for lunch. I will cook your favorite food." She said and passed us a smile.

"Okay we will come for lunch. Love you mom." He pecked her forehead, only if I had this kind of bond with my mother.

"Shall we?" He asked and I nodded.

We settled in his car but he didn't start it, so I looked at him but he was already looking at me. I raised an eyebrow and he smirked in return.

"Seat belt." He said and I realized I didn't wear the seat belt. I quickly wore it and he started driving. There was a thick silence in the car, making everything feel awkward.

"Emm I know you might feel all this weird. A complete stranger suddenly came to live in your house. I am sorry I also didn't want to do this but Grandpa left no other option for me. I promise I will leave immediately if you want me to." I told him everything honestly, whatever it is, I am the one who is going to live in his house and if he doesn't want, I have no problem moving out.

I didn't look at him but even after waiting for a few minutes when he didn't speak, I looked at him and he was smirking. Ugh this man I am trying to tell him something but he is just ignoring me and that smirk I really want to wipe it by giving him a good punch on his so-called handsome face.

"You are not a stranger Mahi, you are Jyoti aunty's daughter and my mom's student. She decided to make you live with us and I will respect her decision." He said while focusing on the road ahead.

"And I don't have any problem but instead I think It will be a lot of fun having you around." He turned his face towards me and winked.

What does that mean and why do I feel whatever he said is not just mere words? Don't overthink Mahi, he is just pulling your leg. Asshole!
