11. Past scars

Kabir's POV:

What is happening to me, it's like my mind is not in my control anymore. "She is here just for 6 months, get your act straight Kabir!" I reminded myself and laid down on my bed. I closed my eyes and her face started flashing.

Flashback

"We are graduating in a week. Shall we go on a vacation after that?" I asked her and she gave me a small smile but didn't say anything.

"Everything okay?" I asked noticing that look on her face. It's been a few days that she is acting differently. She has always been bright and cheerful, making everyone smile in her presence and that's why I fell in love with her.

"Everything is okay, I'm just hungry." She said changing her expressions and I just smiled.

"Okay let's get you, your favorite subway wrap and coke." I said standing up and she did the same.

"About the vacation, where should we go? Paris?" I asked because I know how much she loves Paris. Her expression changed again and I wondered what was wrong with her?

"Tanya?" I waved my hand in front of her face and she blinked.

"Are you sure you are okay?" her behavior started making me worry.

"Are baba I am okay and let's go I'm super hungry." She smiled and changed the topic but I never imagined things will never be the same for us from that day.

Flashback ends

It's been 6 years and still I am stuck here. I need to stop, It's too painful to handle it. I don't think I can love anyone else other than her but I don't want to love her either. She is not here and she is not coming back, that hope died long ago.

She never looked back and I didn't have it in myself to look for her. The thing that I regret the most is, I lost her not only as my first love but also as my only childhood friend. I slept with the memories of our painful yet beautiful past.

I woke up as my alarm started to ring. I looked at the clock, it showed 6 am and I got up from my bed. I changed into my shorts and t-shirt for jogging. I looked at Mahi's room, the door was closed, she was still sleeping.

I came back after an hour and mom was there in the living room. "Good morning mom" I greeted.

"Good morning son, go and freshen up I will get the breakfast ready." I nodded and headed to my room. I took a shower and got ready. I went downstairs and took my seat on the table. Mom served me pancakes and I looked toward Mahi's room.

"She is not coming?" I asked mom as I took the first bite of the pancake.

"She went with her friend just before you came back from running." She served herself a pancake.

"Friend? Which friend?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. She left this early in the morning.

"Sameer, he came to pick her up." She replied and I just nodded.

I picked up my phone to call her but realized that I don't have her number but I have Sameer's. I finished my breakfast and left after saying bye to mom. I settled in my car and dialed Sameer's number "Good morning Mr Khanna" I greeted as soon as he picked up.

"Good Morning Mr Mehra, You called early, what can I do for you?" He asked.

"Your band is required to come to my office by 10am, so please be there on time." I informed him.

"But we were not told about any meeting for today." He said and he is right there was no meeting for them today but how can she leave without even informing. I don't know why I am doing this but right now I want her in front of me.

"Sameer yaar what are you doing on your phone? Help me with this naa" I heard her voice.

"Jam, learn to have a little patience. Sir we will be there." He replied to her and then to me.

"Be on time Mr Khanna. I hate it when people make me wait." With that I ended the call. What's going on with me.

Why do I always lose my patience whenever it comes to her? Mahi Deshmukh you are messing up with my head but somehow I don't mind it.

I reached my office and started working on my upcoming project. Akash came and informed me that they are here.

I looked at my wrist watch and it showed 9:58. A smile formed on my lips and I got up. I entered the meeting room but everyone was there except her.

"Mr Khanna I asked your whole band to be here, didn't I? I asked as soon as I settled on my seat.

He looked confused but soon he got what I mean "Oh Jam.. I mean Mahi will be here soon."

The door opened and she came with a cup of coffee in her hand. "Sorry there was a lot of crowd at the coffee shop." saying this she took a seat opposite to me.

"I called you all here to discuss regarding your show which is in 15 days." I started "As now I am not only your investor but you are the artists of our agency and so this show will affect the agency's reputation." they all intently listened.

"So tell me what's the plan." I asked, looking at them and then at Mr Ahmad.

"They will start practicing from today and the announcement of their show will be made in a few days on their IG account as well as our agency website. People will be able to book tickets when there are 5 days left for the show." Mr Ahmad informed me and I nodded.

"Have you decided on the venue?" I asked, looking at Sameer.

"We are still looking for it." He said.

"Okay, decide by tomorrow and your team will make the arrangements. You can ask Akash if you need any help. It's your first show so give your best, we will end the meeting here." I dismissed them and stood up.

"And Miss Deshmukh, I would like to see you in my cabin." I left the meeting room and went toward my office. After some time she knocked and I allowed her to come in.

"Have a seat." I said in a stern voice and she sat opposite to me.

"You left without informing me in the morning." I said as I looked into her eyes.

"But I informed Aparna aunty." She replied nonchalantly.

"Dolphin you should inform me too so from now on tell me before hand whenever you go somewhere." I said leaning on the desk.

"Why should I inform you about my whereabouts?" She asked, narrowing her eyes at me.

"Maybe you are forgetting that your grandpa told me to take care of you, you are living in my house so I am responsible for your safety." I reasoned with her.

"Mr Mehra no need to worry about me, I can take care of myself." she retorted and stood up from her place.

"If nothing else then I'll leave. We have practice to do." She was about to leave but I quickly grabbed her by her wrist. She turned and looked at me with questioning eyes.

"What?" She asked, I grabbed my phone and handed it out for her.

"I don't have your number yet." I said and she looked at me with wide eyes.

"And why do you need my number?" She asked.

"So I can call you." I said.

"And why would you call me?" She asked again.

"So I can talk to you." I deadpanned and in frustration she took my phone and punched her number.

"Happy?" She handed my phone back and smiled.

"More than anyone dolphin." I replied and she left stomping her feet on the ground.

How much I love the look on her face when I tease her. I saved her number as "dolphin🐬" and started my work again.

It was lunch time so I left my cabin and went to the room where they were practicing. I opened the door but saw her sleeping on the couch in an uncomfortable position and no one was there. I went to her and tried to wake her up but instead she grabbed my hand tightly.

"Dolphin wakes up, it's lunch time." I whispered in her ear and in response she just hummed. My phone rang and she opened her eyes.

"Hello" It was mom's call and I picked up.

"Kabir, are you and Mahi coming home for lunch?" She asked.

"No mom, we will have our lunch outside today." I said looking at Mahi.

"Okay then take care of her and treat her to her favorite food." she ordered, it's been just a few days and she already forgot me.

"Lady I am your son, you should care about me too." I complained and she just laughed.

"Yea Yea sure bye." she hung up, my mother really changed.

"I don't mind you holding me dolphin but we have to go for lunch." I looked at her hand which was still holding mine.

When she realized she almost pushed my hand away "Eh sorry." She hastily stood up.

"Let's go." I also stood up.

"Where?" She asked confusingly.

"We are going out for lunch." I replied.

"Where is everyone?" She asked again.

"They already left while you were sleeping." I answered. "Now shall we?" I know she will argue but she just nodded, indeed surprising. We left the building and settled in my car.

"What would you like to eat?" I asked as I started the car.

"Anything is fine." She replied nonchalantly. We reached the restaurant and had our dinner in silence. I wondered what is going on in her head and why she is so silent?

"It's quite a rare scene to see you being so quiet." I spoke to break the thick silence.

"Mr Mehra, do you think the show will be good?" She asked, making me a little surprise.

"Were not you the one who said that you will let the world know that your band is meant to be on great heights?" I reminded her what she said when we signed the contract.

"Yes of course I am confident but I'm nervous also, this is big after all." she said while playing with her food.

"Don't worry you all will do great, remember I am a businessman and I don't do deals which bring me loss so I am sure this show will be a hit." I assured her, taking the last bite.

"All you want is a chance to boast about yourself." she said, making me chuckle.

"I don't need to do that, everyone knows it already and soon you will too, dolphin." I looked at her and she just rolled her eyes.

"Don't call me that." She glared at me as if I would get scared.

"Sorry, can't be helped." I shrugged my shoulders and she muttered something under her breath which I could not hear.

"I have a lot of practice to do so let's go." She said and left stomping her feet. I like the angry dolphin more.
