7. Dinner

Okay Instagram decided to make Kabir's intro reel go viral and we got 5k+ views on "His to Adore" thanks to all of you. Thank you for joining me on this journey, I was not expecting much as this is my first ever book but you guys are the best!!!

Mahi's POV:

"Mr. Mehra?" What is happening and what is he doing here? Wait did Aparna mam just call him SON? I never knew the famous director Kabir Mehra is Aparna mam's son but now I think about it they do have the same surname. God she hid it so well nobody knows about this.

He wore a navy blue full-sleeve t-shirt perfectly sticking to his body, paired up with light blue denim jeans. His sleeves rolled up but just below the elbow, giving a glimpse of his veiny arms and a silver bracelet shining on his left wrist. Oh god Mahi get your senses back to earth!

"Oh hello Miss Deshmukh, It's a pleasant surprise meeting you again here." Yea Yea I'm also hell shocked to see you here as well. How he is not surprised did he know I will be here?

"You two know each other?" Aparna mam asked, looking at both of us. Of course who doesn't know your son!

"Yes Mom we know each other, in fact today only Miss Deshmukh's band signed a contract with our agency and now they are the artists of Shine agency." Kabir explained to his mother as he went towards my grandpa and mom to touch their feet.

"Oh young man, it's been a long time since I met you. The last time I saw you, you were just a 13 year old teenager and look at you now, you are a grown successful man." Grandpa said as he made Kabir sit beside him. Oh great everyone seems to know about him except me and Rohan, because his mouth is wide open may be due to shock.

"And you are still as handsome as you were at that time." Kabir complimented Grandpa. This man is also great with his words.

"It's so nice to meet you Kabir after so many years." My oh-so-sweet mom started. "You have indeed grown into a handsome and successful man. Your dad must be so proud of you." She continued, well I can't deny the handsome fact. What the hell Mahi, what is wrong with you today?

"Congratulations Mahi on your contract signing!" Aparna mam hugged me tightly and I reciprocated. She pulled back and said, "I'm so proud of you beta." She is so sweet and all I did was to run away from her in college.

"Thank you so much mam." She made a face and reminded me to call her Aunty. "Thank you aunty." I again said and she gave me her brightest smile. I am no more intimidated by her, how can I, when she is so sweet and bright.

"Okay let's have dinner." Aparna aunty said and we all went towards the dining area. Kabir took a seat opposite to me, even though I am not looking toward him, I can feel his gaze on me. I looked upward to confirm and indeed he was looking at me with the same smirk from the morning.

I quickly looked away and tried to focus on my food. I really don't like this man, he gives me no good vibes. After some time, we were all done with dinner and decided to return to the living room.

Aparna aunty served the fruit custard she made and boy it was super delicious. I saw her and Mom exchanging looks, they did the same thing at the dining table also. Something doesn't feel right.

Kabir's phone rang and he went outside to pick up the call. "We want to tell you something." Mom started and looked at Aparna aunty. I raised my eyebrow in confusion.

"About what?" I asked curiously and glanced at Grandpa, he looked confused too. Aunty nodded at Mom, telling her to continue.

"Mahi, as now you have graduated so you can't live in your university dorm anymore. And you also can not live alone in our house here in Mumbai. I was thinking, why don't you shift to Aparna's house? She is my closest friend and she will take very good care of you." My eyes widened in shock at her statement. Is she serious? Does she even have any idea what she is talking about?

"Mom, I am not up for any kind of joke." I controlled myself not to yell at her in front of her friend.

"Jyoti is right beta. As your parents won't be here and you can't live in the dorm it's better for you to live with me in my house, I promise I will take care of you like my own daughter. Besides, it's only..." Aparna aunty said as she took my hand in her, but I cut her off.

"I am not a small child, I can take care of myself. I will find a place to live soon so you don't need to worry about it." I said politely as I took my hand back and stood up to leave. I can't stay here anymore, I don't want to create a scene at someone else's house.

I was about to leave when Mom called out my name. I stopped in my tracks but didn't turn. "Mahi don't leave like this, it's for your own good. Just listen to me first, we can sit and talk about this." I scoffed internally at her words, she is too selfish to think about anyone else.

"For my good? Since when you started to care about me? Do you even remember the last time we talked to each other like a normal mother and daughter? You don't, right? because you were so busy making big money that you even forget you have a daughter." I almost yelled at her. She has no fucking right to decide for me when she never performed her duty as a mother.

Tears started to burn my eyes but I can't cry in front of her, she can't see me breaking. "Mahi beta just listen to your mom first you can decide after that, Balraj uncle please say something." Aparna aunty said to me and then requested Grandpa.

"I don't want to listen to anybody and I can't stay here in your house mam. This is my problem, I will solve it, I don't need anyone's pity." I said as I tried to control my anger. I don't want to be disrespectful towards her.

I left the living room and walked toward the exit. Tears started to roll down my cheeks, I hate myself for agreeing to come here. I was about to exit the house but I bumped into someone and looked up.

"Hey you okay, what happened? Why are you crying?" Kabir asked as he noticed tears in my eyes. Why? Why did he have to bump into me at a time like this? I walked past him, ignoring his question but he suddenly held my wrist, stopping me from going.

"Just leave me Alone!!!" I shouted and he let go of my hand. I quickly went outside of the house and booked a taxi to Nitya's house, right now I only need her.

Author's POV:

"Papa you need to convince Mahi, it's just for 6 months after that you are shifting here to Mumbai she can live with you then."

"You know she can't live alone all by herself and now she decided to pursue music as her career she has to live in Mumbai. If she will live with Aparna in her house, we won't have to worry about her." Jyoti said to her father-in-law Balraj as they settled in their car to go back to their house.

After Mahi left they also decided to leave. Jyoti knew Mahi would not agree with her easily but she didn't expect that she would leave like this without even listening to her.

Mahi has autophobia, she can not live alone and that is the reason Jyoti wanted her to stay with Aparna. Even though they had such a huge house in Mumbai, she decided to live in a hostel because she was afraid of living alone since she was young.

Jyoti knows that Mahi's fear of being alone is all because of her and Jay. They never gave enough time to Mahi when she was young and now she hates her parents more than anything else but they are her parents and they do care about her.

They regret what they did but the business needed attention at that time due to Balraj's accident, things were getting out of hand and at times like that they were not able to give attention to Mahi. She doesn't know if Mahi will ever be able to forgive her parents for their mistakes.

"Jyoti, I understand what you are trying to say but that was sudden, at least you should have told me about this beforehand. You know how Mahi is, this was expected and now she is not even picking up her phone" Balraj said to his daughter-in-law in disappointment.

"I know papa I should have told you, I told Aparna about this in the evening when you all went to the beach, she happily agreed and promised me that she will take care of her more than us. I thought we would be able to handle it, but things didn't go well."

"Please papa, now you are the only one who can make that girl understand. I also told Jay about this and he said it's good for her to stay with Aparna until you shift here. It's only a matter of 6 months." Jyoti explained and Balraj nodded in agreement.

"Nitya di messaged me saying that Mahi di is with her and will spend the night at her house." Rohan informed as soon as he received Nitya's message.

"Okay I will talk to her in the morning when she comes back home. I also think it's best for her to stay with Aparna for the time being." Balraj said and everyone nodded.
