Chapter 10

Rejected Lovers

Chapter Ten - Exceptions

Groaning when my alarm blares the next morning I turn it off quickly before opening my eyes. I remember everything except what happened after Atticus dragged me to the car last night. So, I decide to assume nothing eventful and that someone probably brought me up to my bedroom. Thankfully, my body has burned off the alcohol and I don't have to deal with a hangover.

After another five minutes of staying in bed I eventually get up and freshen up in the bathroom. I take a quick shower and blow dry my hair before changing into a casual outfit for the day. It's getting increasingly colder the faster we approach winter so I'm mostly in a comfy sweater or layers nowadays.

After having breakfast, I catch a lift to school with Arcadia and Elias. I'm walking through the hallways to my locker when I spot Leon. Grinning widely when I remember he found his mate last night I run up to him. He turns around just in time to see me and chuckles at my excitement.

"Tell me everything!"

"Her name is Savannah and she's visiting her dad's side of the family. She's from Alicante, Spain." He smiles and I can see how genuinely happy he is to have found her. "I'm going to be meeting her family this evening."

"That's amazing, Leon! I'm so happy for you!" I hug him before spotting Emilia race over to us.

"You found your mate?!" She whisper-shouts as a group of humans walk by. "What does she look like? Where's she from? I need details!"

Leon laughs and proceeds to tell her the same thing he told me while I take the time to grab my books from my locker. I walk back over to them when I'm done and we head to English together. He shows Emilia a picture of her and she squeals excitedly which makes us laugh. Right before we enter the classroom she gives him a tight hug before we make our way to our seats.

It was such a good feeling to start the morning off happy.

The rest of the day was peachy keen too until I walked into the girl's bathroom before lunch. While I'm in the cubicle I hear the door open and a pair of what sounds like heeled boots click on the floor. I almost bang my head against the cubicle's wall when I recognize Scarlett's scent. Wasn't getting knocked out by a girl younger than her enough? I wonder to myself.

"Guess who followed me into the bathroom?" I mind link both Emilia and Arcadia.

They growl in response before Arcadia speaks. "Punch her in the throat!"

"I second that!" Emilia chuckles which makes me smile. "But we're on our way."

I walk out and move towards the sink to wash my hands. She's leaning against the wall with a deep scowl on her lips and her narrowed eyes follow my every move. I glance at her with disinterest as I dry my hands with the paper towels before stepping towards the door.

"How many times must I tell you to stay away from him?" She finally growls and her words make me stop.

"How many times must someone beat it into you that Atticus is not yours?" I arch a brow as I turn to face her.

Her skin colors with anger and I notice her fists clench. "Mark my words, when I become Luna I'll have you tortured for that pathetic attitude you walk around with!"

"Did anyone tell you that you're a tad bit...delusional?" I roll my eyes as I turn to leave.

"You'll never be anything more than his best friend, Olivia." She sneers hatefully as she tops up her lipstick. "It's me who warms his bed every night, not you."

I stiffen before looking over my shoulder and meeting her eyes. "Well, I pity him then."

Just as I leave the bathroom I hear her thundering growl echo from behind. I turn the corner only to find Arcadia and Emilia rushing down the hallway. A smile graces my lips at the sight of them which soon drops when Arcadia brushes past me and tries to get into the bathroom. Emilia grabs her from behind and I help in pulling her away and back towards the cafeteria.

"You didn't punch her!" She growls as she glances at me hand.

"I'm disappointed too." Emilia chuckles as she shoves Arcadia forward when she turns.

"It's not worth it. She didn't make any move to hit me anyways, just said some things." I shrug with a roll of my eyes.

"What did she say?" Arcadia asks and her baby blues light up with a protective glint.

I only smile in amusement and shake my head. She's a year younger than me yet she's certainly mature for her age. When it comes to her brothers and family she would set anyone straight for speaking bad about them.

Unfortunately, the bell rings to signal the end of lunch just as we walk back into the cafeteria and I groan in annoyance when I realize I can't eat anything. Emilia offers me the banana she had not eaten with a sympathetic smile and I take it gratefully.

The day carries on as usual and I find myself swamped with assignments that are due by the end of this week which is making me stress a little. However, knowing that Emilia and Leon are in the same boat as I am makes me relax slightly.

I'm quite tired when I return home and all I want to do is have food before going to bed. I'm assuming the effects of going to bed late last night are finally catching up to me. And as I trudge up to my room I almost cry when I remember that training is tomorrow morning at six a.m. I fling my backpack somewhere before walking over to my bed and dropping stomach first onto it with a loud groan.

"Do you remember anything from last night?"

I jump out of my skin with a shriek. Turning, I see Atticus standing at the doorway with an amused look on his face. Huffing when he snickers at my reaction I sit up on the bed. But then I register his question. I stiffen before turning to him with wide eyes and dread coursing through me.

"Not after I got into the car. Why?! Did I do something?!"

His lips pull up into a small smirk before he shakes his head. "No."

"Lies!" I mutter as I put my phone on charge. "You probably have it recorded to use as blackmail in the future."

"Such little faith in me." He murmurs lowly and I turn around to glare at him. "You did call me Atti though."

A soft smile blooms across my lips at the nickname. "You always hated it."

"Well...I like it now." He replies quietly as he stares at me intensely.

"Noted." I chuckle as I take off my shoes.

"How was school?" He asks as he takes a seat on the bench in front of my bed.

"Truth or lie?" I ask as I stand to put my shoes beside my backpack.

"Give me the lie first." He hums thoughtfully with a smirk on his lips. "I want to see how outrageous it is."

"Well, I had the best day ever! I'm excelling in all my subjects, people adore me and literally worship the ground I walk on and if that isn't enough, I am now the queen bee of the school!" I cheer with a fake smile.

His hazel eyes twinkle in amusement and I see him bite his lip as he struggles not to laugh. "Alright, what's the truth?"

My fake cheerful expression drops immediately and I shrug halfheartedly. "Just a boring day as usual."

He stands and I turn around quickly to put my clothes away in my wardrobe. Frustratingly, he follows me in but I stiffen when I hear the door close. I face him hesitantly only to find him staring at me with darkened eyes. Shit, he knows I'm lying! I groan mentally. Atticus has always been able to tell when someone is telling the truth or not and he always knows things before anyone telling him.

He's standing before me in an instant and I drop the bundle of clothes in surprise. Ignoring them, he traps me against the wall and cages me in by putting both arms beside my head. At this point my heart is racing so fast that I think I may have a heart attack if he gets any closer.

"What did Scarlett say to you?"

"Why do you ask when you already know?" I retort with an arch of my brow.

"Little one..." He chuckles darkly as he presses himself even closer to me. "Don't test me right now. Tell me what she said to you."

I glare up at him fiercely for calling me little. It's another one of his nicknames for me and I have never liked it just because I know he says it to mock how small I am compared to him. He growls when I look away with a huff and grabs my hips tightly. My breath hitches over the unexpected action before I sigh in defeat. He's always been stubborn and if I don't tell him I have no doubt that we'll be staying in here all night until I do. Actually...that's not a bad idea – No! Focus, Olivia! I think to myself.

"Well, she said that you belong to her." I start off shakily as her hurtful words replay in my mind. "She also said that she's going to become Luna and –"

I bite my lip hard to stop myself but he's having none of it.

"And?"

"And that she warms your bed every night." I avoid his gaze as I stare at the carpet.

"Do you believe her?" He asks calmly which surprises me.

"I-I don't know."

"Disappointing coming from you, Livi. You know me." He frowns and I look away.

"People grow and change in two years." I shrug halfheartedly in reply.

"Well, I don't pursue any personal relationships with the females in my pack." He chuckles before his eyes darken as they roam over my figure. "But maybe I can make...an exception."

"What?!" I squeak at his blatant insinuation.

"Come downstairs when you're ready. I'll make dinner." He winks and disappears in the blink of an eye.

"What was that?!" I whisper to myself before staring at my shocked expression in the mirror.

I change while rambling to myself under my breath like a lunatic as I process what just happened. Surely he doesn't have feelings for me like I do for him? I think to myself. I mean, yeah we dated but that was two years ago! No...there's no way, I shake my head in refusal. He'd be mad to want someone like me who's still running from her past. And I'm delusional for falling for him again. Goddess, get it together Olivia!

I leave my room and make my way downstairs fully confident after that mental pep talk I just had. But when I enter the kitchen and see him turn to me with a handsome smile everything I had just told myself about not developing feelings for him goes out the window. And when he wraps an arm around my waist and holds me close I feel all those butterflies come back.

Resisting him is going to be harder than I thought, I think to myself with a deep sigh.
