Ch.22 Chapter 21 - Rejected Lovers

Chapter Twenty-One - Miracle

I'm in math class when my phone vibrates in my back pocket. Taking it out I see that it's a text from Emilia and quickly read it under the table. It says, Meet me in the mall after school. Need your help in picking out a dress for this weekend's party! However, while I'm typing back a reply the teacher coughs and I look up to see his eyes trained on me as he talks. I send the text before discreetly putting my phone in my bag even though he knows well what I was doing.

Thankfully, time flies by and after twenty more minutes I'm finally done for the day. I note down the homework we have for tomorrow before rushing out of the class with Leon. He has date night with Savannah so he's equally as eager as I am to leave the building.

We both bid each other goodbye before I see him hop on his bike and cycle away. Making my way to the car waiting for me I get in with a quick hello to my regular guards, Tobi and Felix. They're the ones that usually accompany me everywhere.

"Hi guys. Can you take me to the mall actually?" I ask and see Tobi smile and nod in the rear-view mirror.

"Sure." He replies before starting the car and driving off the school grounds.

I listen to some music on the way there and it doesn't take that long to reach the mall since the school is in the center of town. However, the parking lot does seem packed and Tobi makes a noise of frustration as he drives around to find a free space. But miraculously, Felix spots a person loading their shopping into the boot of their car. I decide to call Emilia to see which store she's in while we wait for them to leave.

"Hey, which store are you in? I'm in the parking lot." I say once she picks up after the third ring.

"Uh...what are you talking about?" Her response makes me frown in confusion.

"You texted me to meet you at the mall after school and that you wanted my help in picking out a dress for a party this weekend." I explain with furrowed brows.

"Wait...what? Okay, hold on..." She mutters and I don't hear anything for a few seconds before she speaks again. "Olivia, I didn't send any texts. When did you get it?"

"When I was in Math."

"I had gym." She replies slowly before I hear her curse under her breath. "Liv, get back to the pack house. I'm going to find Atticus. Something isn't right."

"This was a setup?!" I growl in both anger and panic as I come to the startling realization.

"Yes." I look up at Felix to see him smirking at me before grabbing my phone and crushing it in his grip.

"What the fuck?!"

My jaw drops before I try and escape the car only to hear him lock the doors with a dark chuckle. He turns around just as Tobi floors it out of the parking lot at an insanely dangerous speed. Snarling in frustration I quickly mind link Atticus and tell him what's happening along with giving Tobi and Felix's names. I also add on directions so that he can at least know where I'm headed.

"I'm coming, don't worry! I'll find you, Livi!" He replies in a panic and I try not to let my fear filter through our bond.

"Where are you taking me?!" I scream when Tobi almost hits a car.

"Shut up!" He growls as he swerves crazily.

"Atticus..." I trail off as dread fills me over where I think we're headed. "They might be taking me out of Ontario. Please, hurry! Tobi's locked the doors and is going too fast for me to attempt at escaping."

"Fuck!" He curses and I can feel that he's distraught. "I've left the territory! Just keep me updated!"

I tell him the road Tobi's driving on and any change of direction that he takes. It surprises me that they haven't drugged me or anything so that I can't mind link anyone. He gets off the highway and works his way through various shortcuts at a normal speed which eventually takes us to the middle of nowhere with nothing but trees on either side. But the sight of a male figure stepping out of the trees makes my eyes widen and my heart hammer. He's holding something and both Tobi and Felix chuckle at my expression.

"Your mate can't save you if you can't reply." Felix smirks smugly and I catch the wicked gleam in his brown eyes.

Maybe I shouldn't have spoken so soon, I think to myself as I realize that I'm going to be drugged by that man. However, I see an opportunity and choose to go with it no matter how dangerous it is. Jade senses what I'm about to do and readies herself as well.

I then start punching the window as hard as I can and grin when it starts to crack under the force. Tobi growls warningly and yells empty threats at me as he increases his speed. Felix turns around to stop me but I grab him by the collar and punch his face repeatedly until he's knocked out. I continue hitting the glass and am filled with relief when it eventually shatters. I let Jade takeover and crouch on the seat so that I can launch myself out of the window. And with extended claws I scratch Tobi's face as deep and quickly as I can before jumping out of the car.

I shift midway and Jade lands gently on the ground before she sprints into the woods. Quickly mind linking Atticus on my whereabouts we focus on any sounds that may indicate that someone is following us. Although we don't hear or scent anything we're still on edge as Jade races through the mass of trees.

But we're not alone for much longer because just as we break out into a small clearing we smell another wolf coming in our direction from the right. However, smelling the familiar scent of a Red River pack member is what shocks us both to the core. Jade swerves to avoid him but he pounces and his canines scrape her hind leg. She snarls in pain but continues running with him hot on her heels.

"Atticus, there's a Red River pack member chasing me! I think Vincent is here!" I shout into the mind link as another russet colored wold slams into Jade's side.

There's no reply from him and it only increases my panic. I focus back on Jade who just kicked the wolf off from her body. The dark brown one from before nips her in several places and she can't help but howl in pain when he digs his canines into her skin a little too deeply.

Another wolf joins and pins Jade down as she thrashes against his hold. But she stills and I'm filled with immediate dread when we hear footsteps making their way in our direction. The other two wolves back off yet stand alert as a certain redhead walks up to Jade with a triumphant smile. Tobi trails behind her with open and bleeding wounds caused by my claws.

"Shift, Olivia." Scarlett grins smugly but it immediately drops when Jade only stares back at her in disinterest. "I said shift!"

Her screech echoes in the forest and we hear some birds leave their nests due to the volume. When Jade still doesn't shift back Scarlett whispers something to Tobi who nods and walks to the russet colored wolf. I notice the bag tied to his hind leg and Tobi takes it off before grabbing a syringe from inside.

When we realize that it's wolfsbane Jade goes crazy and does everything she can to try and escape. But it's no use as the other two wolves pin her down and all we can do is watch Scarlett helplessly as she walks up to us with the drug. Jade snarls at her threateningly and nearly rips out a chunk of Scarlett's wrist when she tries to inject the drug. But Tobi grabs her muzzle and forces it shut before nodding at her.

"Scarlett is drugging me with wolfsbane â" I begin to inform Atticus in the hopes that he will reply this time but am quickly interrupted by Scarlett's gasp of surprise.

Her eyes glaze over as well as the other's so I assume she's talking with them. But then, rage and jealousy overtakes her expression and she glares at me in hatred. Tobi lets go of Jade's muzzle and walks around to her before gripping her shoulder tightly...almost as if to stop her from taking out her anger at me.

"The Bauer Pack is under a rogue attack. He'd never choose you over them so, I wouldn't even try to ask for help." She states after a few deep breaths before standing and gesturing for the wolves to get off me.

Fear courses through me at the thought of Atticus and the pack getting hurt but it doesn't last long before my senses remind me of the pain I'm currently in. I notice the three wolves making their way behind trees before I hear the tell-tale sounds of shifting. Why didn't she inject us with wolfsbane? I wonder and feel an immense amount of fear from Jade as she watches them. She doesn't reply but I do become confused when I sense her feeling overprotective.

After my legs and muzzle are tied with rope I'm taken out of the woods and dumped into the backseat of a car roughly. Scarlett finally loses it and before anyone can stop her she delivers a few blows to my head. Coward! I think to myself as I gaze at her through drooping yet narrowed eyes. If only I wasn't tied up I would have broken her bones for doing this to me. As we drive off I catch sight of the first star twinkling high in the sky before tears blur my vision. I pray to the Moon Goddess to help me and the Bauer Pack.

I pray for a miracle.
