Chapter 108
Mr. Sallow's Sinful Wife by Maisie Chasey
Chapter 108 Youâre Not Allowed to Go, Nicholas âIâll be right there,â Nicholas said, his gaze turning cold as he ended the call.
Nancy mustered the courage to rush forward, blocking his path with outstretched arms.
What are you doing, Nancy?â
âYouâre not allowed to go,â she declared, her eyes filled with stubborn resolve.
Nicholas expression grew even colder. His voice turned sharp and steely. âGet out of the way.â
âI said youâre not allowed to go.â Nancy repeated. She continued, âYouâre my husband, Nicholas. Weâre married, and I refuse to let you abandon me to see that homewrecker whoâs destroying our marriage.â She used the term âhomewreckerâ without hesitation, something sheâd never done. before, even in the heat of her anger. However, she let her emotions flow freely this time, caring little about holding back.
When did you start speaking so harshly, Nancy?â
She smiled and said, âIâve always been sharp. Iâm like a porcupine covered in quills. Didnât you know that, Mr. Sallow?â
She had never been one to conform to societal norms. Otherwise, she wouldnât have survived her challenging upbringing. All her previous meekness and compliance were a testament to her love for him.
What about him? He took her for granted. She had shed her quills for him, exposing only her soft body and tender heart. In return, he provided no protection, no armor-just one storm after another, each more piercing than the last, each a mortal blow.
She had never been one to make a scene, but this time, she was determined to fight for him.
âI always thought you were a kind, gentle, and mature young woman, Nancy. I hope you wonât change my impression of you.â
âYou got it all wrong then. Iâm not kind and gentle, and Iâm far from mature. Iâm a vicious and heinous woman.â
For some inexplicable reason, hearing Nancy describe herself this way pained Nicholas. He uttered, âDonât degrade yourself like that.â
She thought, Hah! Degrade, huh? âHave you forgotten, Nicholas? You said so yourself. You said I was vicious and heinous.â
His phone rang again, and his patience ran out. He grabbed her and pushed her aside.
Just as he was about to leave, he heard a loud crash. Something had fallen from the window.
www 14 âNancy Nicholas turned around and shouted, fearing the worst. His heart skipped a beat when he couldnât spot Nancy by the window. Panic set in, he uttered, âNancy...â He rushed to the window and looked down, only to find that it was a vase that had fallen. He breathed a sigh of rehet but no sign of her. He quickly made a call. âSend some people over, including two females.â
Nancy emerged from the bathroom, staring at him in disbelief. âWhat do you mean by this? Are you locking me up?â
Iâm not locking you up. I just want them to keep an eye on you in case you do something foolish,â he explained.
I wonât do anything foolish. Since you canât wait to go and see Madelline, go on. Go right now. Donât worry. I wonât stop you.â The light had gone out in her eyes, the one she had been desperately chasing-
Nicholas only left after giving instructions to the bodyguards who had arrived.
Nancy heard everything. It was just a simple instruction. He wanted them to stay with her at all times.
The four male bodyguards were stationed outside, while the two female bodyguards remained in the room with her. They were to accompany her, whether eating or sleeping, never allowing her out of their sight.
Nancy laughed hollowly, feeling it was all unnecessary. Where would she even go? What did she have left? She had no family;
her motherâs passing had seen to that.
When Nicholas arrived at the hospital, Madelline was still on the roof, her hair disheveled, looking utterly distraught. She sat in a wheelchair and slowly inched it forward. What was most alarming was that the wheelchair was just inches away from the roofâs edge.
He was in turmoil seeing that.
Alice played along with the act, her voice trembling as she spoke. âCome down right now, Madelline! Please, I beg you. Itâs too dangerous.â
Madelline cried out, âI donât want to. Alice, I canât face anyone anymore.â
Alice persisted, âWe can resolve this. Come down, and letâs figure this out together. Nicholas will help you. He wonât abandon you.â
âNo, Madelline screamed hysterically. âHe wonât! He doesnât care about me anymore!â She added, âAll Nicholas cares about is Nancy! He abandoned me a long time ago! My life doesnât matter to him anymore. Do you know how sad I am, Alice? I love him, but he doesnât care about me.â
âBut...â Madelline continued through her tears, âDonât pity me. Itâs my fault. I was the one who wanted to break up with him. If we hadnât, I wouldâve been the luckiest woman in the world. I shouldnât have broken up with him. I regret it. Do you know how much I regret doing that? I wish @
I could go back to when we were still dating.â
Madellineâs acting skills were impressive, and Nicholasâ heart ached as he listened to her tearful pleas âMadelline. He finally spoke up. âIâm here. I didnât abandon you. I care about your life.â he added. âCome here. I promise Iâll help you deal with this. Your reputation wonât be ruined.â
âNicholas Her voice trembled with agitation. âWhy are you here? I thought you wouldnât come. You still care about me, donât you?
You still love me, right?â
She smiled through her teary eyes as she wheeled herself toward him. However, just as she was about to reach him, he reached out, firmly grabbing her wheelchair and escorting her back to her hospital room.
Once they were there, she saw a row of men dressed in suits. She knew he was concerned she might attempt to escape again.
After carefully placing Madelline on her bed, Nicholas turned to Alice and instructed. âBring the doctor over.â
âGot it, Nicholas. Right away.â
The doctor conducted a thorough examination and assured that Madelline was in good health.
Nicholas sighed in relief and said, âGet some rest.â
Throughout this ordeal, Madelline believed she had fought a successful battle and emerged victorious. Little did she know that the man would soon depart after saying these words, a reality that had never crossed her wildest dreams.
