Chapter 112
Mr. Sallow's Sinful Wife by Maisie Chasey
Chapter 112 Nancyâs Accident Im sorry, sweetie. I canât just abandon her and not care about her.â
After saying that, Nicholas got up and left.
As Nancy watched him leave, she chuckled scornfully.
Thatâs right. He canât abandon her and not care about her, so instead, heâs abandoning me and ignoring me.
In his eyes, the only one who matters is that woman. Maybe he has long forgotten about how heavy the rain is today and how scared I am.
Once Nicholas left, Nancy got up as well.
From her spot on the second floor, she could still see Nicholas.
He rushed out into the rain without the umbrella. He didnât take the car either.
He was soaking wet, but he was standing tall in the rain nonetheless.
To think that they would one day be strangers and no longer have anything to do with each other, Nancy somehow found the courage to rush after him.
âNicholas...â she shouted to try and get him to hear her through the rain..
The heavy rain masked most of her voice, but Nicholas heard her anyway.
He turned around and saw that Nancy had come down. She was standing by the entrance and. getting pelted with rain. Without even hesitating, he ran straight back to her.
âWhy did you come down?â he asked sternly.
âItâs raining heavily, and the weatherâs cold. Youâre not dressed warmly enough. Your body wonât be able to take it. Hurry up and go back inside.â
Nancy didnât speak. She calmly stared at him.
âHurry up. Iâm leaving the car and the umbrella for you. I called Lynn. Heâll come and pick you up later.â
âWhat about you? Are you going over by yourself?â
Just how deeply did he love her that he was willing to risk his life without any regard for his own safety?
âDonât worry about me. I know what Iâm doing.â
Just then, Lynn drove the car over. He got out and rushed over.
1/4 âTake Nancy back and look after her, Nicholas instructed Lynn before disappearing into the rain.
âIâll drive you back. Mrs. Sallow,â Lynn said courteously while holding a large umbrella.
Nancy looked at the umbrella before abruptly saying, âGive the umbrella to him.â
âThis umbrella is designed to keep all the rain out. Mr. Sallow told me to use it to shield you.â
Nancy was smiling, but her gaze was cold. âGive it to him. I donât need it.â
She didnât even need him, let alone his umbrella.
âMrs. Sallow, thatâs...â Lynn was conflicted.
âIâll do it myself then.â Nancy reached out to take the umbrella, so Lynn quickly said, âGive me at moment, Mrs. Sallow. Iâll do it right away.â
âSheâs being ridiculous!â
Nicholas was furious when he heard that Nancy insisted on giving him the umbrella.
âMrs. Sallow seemed adamant to me, Mr. Sallow. Iâm sure sheâs just worried about you. You should at least just take it for the sake of appearance,â Lynn suggested.
Nicholas didnât take the umbrella. He clenched his jaw and growled, âI wonât take back what Iâve given away. Since she doesnât want it, just throw it away!â
With a flick of his hand, he flung the umbrella to the ground.
Despite the heavy rain in the dark of night, Nancy clearly saw him dumping the umbrella.
At first, the umbrella flapped in the wind, but soon, it was too wet and heavy to move.
Nancyâs heart shattered into pieces.
She felt as if the umbrella were her.
During the height of summer, she ignored the scorching heat just to give him some coolness. In the dead of winter, she ignored the chilling cold just to give him a bit of warmth.
She ran to him with a heart full of sincerity, but he didnât want it.
He could toss it aside as if it were nothing.
âJust give up, Nancy! He doesnât love you. Heâll never love you. Havenât you given up yet?â
Yeah. Itâs time to give up.
I shouldâve given up a long ago.
2/4 The rain was getting heavier. Nicholas disappeared into the car, and the car drove off in the rain.
It went further and further away until it faded from sight.
Just then. Lynn came over. He was about to speak when Nancy said, âYou donât need to take me back. Go with him.â
Lynn was put in a difficult position. âMr. Sallow gave me an order, Mrs. Sallow.â
âDo you know where he went off to by himself?â
Lynn shook his head.
âMadelline got kidnapped. He went to save her. I donât need to tell you how dangerous kidnappers can be. You know how risky this is for him. Are you sure youâre not going to help him?â
Lynn was thunderstruck. âI-Is that true, Mrs. Sallow?â
âOf course. Why else would he be so anxious? He insisted on rushing off without regard for anything else.â
âGot it, Mrs. Sallow. Iâm leaving right away. Donât worry. Iâll keep Mr. Sallow safe.â
âAlright.â
Before leaving. Lynn hired a cab for Nancy.
He only drove off once Nancy got into the car.
If Lynn had known about the impending accident, he would never have allowed her to get inside the car.
Inside the hired car, Nancy sat in silence.
She placed her hand protectively on her belly.
âIâm sorry, baby. I kept promising to give you a complete family, but Iâm too tired. I canât do it.â
âMommy might be a coward, or maybe sheâs just weak. Either way, she doesnât have the courage anymore.â
âBaby, from now on, you wonât have a father, but donât worry. Mommy can take good care of you alone.â
Even though Nancyâs heart was wracked with pain, the thought of the baby she was carrying gave her hope in life.
She believed the babyâs birth would change her life.
3/4 Alas, Nancy never thought just how many things could go wrong in this world.
All of a sudden, the driver shouted, âHang tight, miss!â
Nancy looked up in shock. Her heart almost stopped beating.
Out in the rain, a huge truck was barreling straight at them. It raced down the road without any sign of stopping.
The truck... Nancy asked tremblingly as she gripped her seat.
In that split second, a burst of thoughts flooded her mind.
Goodbye, Nicholas.
So long, Nicholas.
âMom, itâs me, Nancy. Iâm coming to see you now.
Mommyâs sorry, baby, but Mommy will do her best to protect you.
Nancy placed the pillow on top of her belly and curled up to protect her child.
Bang-
After the loud crash, the car flipped over.
