Chapter 160
Mr. Sallow's Sinful Wife by Maisie Chasey
Chapter 160 I Loved My Husband For Ten Years âNicholas, do you know? I canât stand you. I hate you so much. Youâre like a block of wood, a fool.â As Nancy spoke, she gently poked Nicholasâ chest. Despite being clearly. intoxicated, her beauty remained undiminished. The steam from the bathroom enhanced her allure, with flushed cheeks and cherry-red lips making her even more enchanting.
However, he stood still, allowing her playful pokes to continue without flinching.
Nancy poked him a few times before pausing, then poked him again as if a thought crossed her mind. With a tipsy grin, she asked, âYou seem to have changed into an entirely different person. Why didnât you dodge?â
âWhy should I dodge?â Nicholas responded.
She blinked her drowsy, mischievous eyes, and as if inspired, she smiled coyly. Suddenly, she scooped up water from the bathtub and splashed it onto the man.
Nicholas was caught off guard, and by the time he realized what was happening, Nancy had already doused him with water several times. With his hair soaked and water droplets cascading down, she couldnât help but giggle. âNot dodging will make you end up wet!â
It had been a while since he had seen her so genuinely happy. At that moment, he felt his heart melting. Still, he didnât retreat but walked forward, reaching his long, fair arms out. to ruffle her hair, asking affectionately, âDid you have fun splashing water on me?â
Nancy nodded, still smiling drowsily. âIt was fun.â As she spoke, she suddenly got up from the bathtub and poked Nicholasâ chest again, accusing him disgruntledly, âDid you know? You used to be a refined gentleman when I first met you. Itâs like you were a flower on a high peak, making people hesitant to approach. But now...â She poked him harder, adding, âLook at yourself. Youâve become down and out, which makes you an ordinary person like me.â She continued, âLet me tell you something. I donât like you acting this way. Itâs like weâre from different worlds. When we got married, it felt like no one was happy for me besides Grandpa, especially your friends. They thought I married you to climb up the social ladder and that I was after wealth and status.
âWhat do you think?â he asked with a raised brow.
Tilting her head and pondering, Nancy replied, âI think they were right! Itâs true. I was too dreamy, always imagining myself as a princess, waiting for a prince to come and rescue. me. But in reality, I didnât even have a knight. They were right; we are from two different. worlds. Our worlds finally separated after so much difficulty, and our connection was cut off. But why didnât you stay away? Why must you return to disturb my life? Why did you come back and stir up my emotions?â The more she spoke, the sadder and more painful she felt. Tears started streaming down her face, and she wanted to wipe them away but found herself wearing a short-sleeved shirt. Therefore, she didnât have a sleeve to wipe her 1/3 tears with. At that instant, her gaze fell onto Nicholasâ shirt. âCome closer!â she urged him.
âWhat do you want?â he rebuked, âDidnât you tell me to stay away earlier?â Although he said that, his body had already taken a step forward, bringing him very close to her.
Nancy hooked her fingers. âYouâre too far. Come closer.â
Nicholas moved closer again and was now right beside the bathtub.
Without thinking much about it, she pulled his shirt and started wiping away her tears.
Immediately, his expression fell. He was wondering why she asked him to come closer. Who would have thought it was to use his shirt to wipe away her tears?
âNancy!â He yelled.
Nancy hurriedly raised her head, looking at Nicholas with pitiful eyes. âWho told you to bring me home? You have to take responsibility for your actions.â
âHow do you want me to take responsibility for this?â he asked, his eyes gradually turning dark.
Grabbing the shower head, she started spraying him. His shirt was instantly wet as water flowed down his body like a stream.
Satisfied, she said, âOf course, you must be responsible for making me happy.â
âYouâre becoming more and more mischievous.â While criticizing her, Nicholas ran his fingers through his hair, but his tone was filled with undeniable indulgence.
âYouâre right. I am mischievous. I also have a secret to tell you.â Nancy suddenly placed her hand beside her lips as she spoke mysteriously.
âWhatâs the secret?â
âI used to fake my personality.â She stated, âActually, Iâm not well-behaved or obedient. I used to be mean, so youâve been fooled.â As she spoke, she deliberately placed both hands. beside her lips and put on a fierce expression. Then, she suddenly parted her lips and revealed her teeth to make a menacing face. But when she saw his calm expression that seemed like he wasnât surprised, she was slightly disappointed and asked, âArenât you surprised by that?â
Nicholas ignored her. If he had any doubts about Nancyâs sobriety or whether she was simply putting on an act, those uncertainties had now evaporated. It was abundantly clear that she was indeed inebriated. This was evident in the way she engaged in ceaseless chatter, babbling like a child yet exuding a certain charm and adorability that was hard to 2/3 ignore.
âGeez, weez, Nicholas, youâre not adorable at all. This is no fun.â She pouted her lips in dissatisfaction. âHow about I tell you a joke? Why did the chicken cross the road? Itâs because it wanted to get to the other side!â
But the man stood there and didnât smile.
Dissatisfied, Nancy refused to admit defeat. âIsnât that funny? Let me think. Iâll tell you another one. Three tomatoes are walking down the street. Papa Tomato, Mama Tomato, and Baby Tomato. Baby Tomato starts falling behind, and Papa Tomato gets really angry, so he goes back and squishes Baby Tomato, saying, âKetchup.â Hahahaha. Ketchup, got it?â
After delivering her joke, she erupted into laughter, but Nicholas maintained his indifference, his face frozen in the same impassive expression as before. There was no trace of a smile; his countenance remained as rigid and emotionless as ever.
At that moment, she was finally angry. She got up and placed her hands on his face without hesitation, forcing him to smile.
With that, Nicholas finally revealed a bitter smile. But his smile seemed worse than crying.
Nancy also found it awful, so she withdrew her hand and returned to the bathroom, leaning her head against the bathtub.
This time, as she cast a glance at him, her gaze abruptly became serious. âWould to hear another joke from me? This one isnât something I found on the internet, but rather one I came up with myself. I assure you itâs hilarious, and it will definitely make you laugh.â
you like With her eyelashes trembling, Nancy closed her eyes and spoke softly, âI once foolishly loved a man for ten years. We used to be inseparable. He was my husband, yet he acted as if he knew nothing. It was as if he had amnesia. What do you think of that?
Isnât it a massive joke?â
