Chapter 192
Mr. Sallow's Sinful Wife by Maisie Chasey
Chapter 192 Heartache âHa, calm down?â
Julian sneered, extending his hands to block the door, effectively trapping Nancy between it and himself.
Nancy grew even more fearful, her breathing becoming faint.
âJulian, this is the office. You canât do this.â
âWell, let me tell you, Iâm definitely going to.â
With those words, Julian reached out, forcefully tilting Nancyâs chin, and kissed her.
Nancyâs eyes widened in shock. In that moment, she didnât have time to think too much. She shouted for him to stop while also raising her hand and slapping him.
A loud slap rang through the quiet office, resounding with unusual clarity.
For an instant, both were stunned.
Julianâs eyes were wide with disbelief, staring at Nancy in utter shock.
I got slapped? She actually slapped me?
Nancy looked at her own hand, feeling a bit scared after the fact.
Without waiting any longer, she swung open the door and hurried out.
As soon as she escaped Julianâs office, her phone started ringing.
Nancy didnât have the time to pay attention to it. She just kept running. She went down several flights of stairs, then took an elevator back to the lounge. Finally, she locked the door behind her, and only then did she heave a sigh of relief.
Her phone started ringing again. Nancy took it out and realized it was a call from Nicholas.
But in her current state, after what had just happened, how could she face him?
Though she felt wronged and miserable, she didnât want Nicholas to worry about her.
Moreover, it was dishonorable of her, and she didnât want him to know.
Nancyâs heart still hadnât settled after the bout of fear. Her hand trembled, and her phone slipped. from her grasp, falling to the floor.
After she picked it up, she looked at herself on the screen, only to realize how utterly disheveled. she was. Tears had unconsciously streaked down her cheeks.
1/4 Nicholas called again, and she didnât want to keep him waiting. However, she also didnât want him. to see her crying. She wiped away her tears, tidied her hair, and quickly answered the video call.
At that moment, Nancy had tucked away all her unhappiness and was smiling happily.
Then, with a cheerful tone, she greeted Nicholas, âNicholas, have you arrived?â
âYes, Iâve just arrived, Nicholas replied. âNancy, did something happen?â
Nancy smiled, shaking her head, âNo, why do you ask?â
âBecause youâve called me several times, and I tried to video call you just now, but you didnât answer. Iâm really worried.â
âItâs nothing. I saw that you hadnât contacted me even though youâve arrived, so I was worried. That was why I made a few calls.
There was a patient with a special condition that delayed me a bit, but everythingâs fine. Donât worry too much.â
Nancy clenched her hand tightly, trying to feign composure.
âIâm sorry, there was some turbulence on the flight, which caused a delay. I arrived a bit later than expected.â
âItâs okay, I figured you hadnât arrived yet since you didnât call me. Donât worry, I know youâd call once you landed.â
Even though Nancy appeared perfectly fine in the video call, without tears or a trembling voice, and was even smiling throughout. Nicholas, with his keen perception, sensed something was off from the moment she picked up.
He couldnât quite put his finger on it at that moment. Now, he was certain. Her eyes were red. There were traces of tears on her cheeks. If he guessed correctly, she had definitely been crying. Her hair was obviously just tidied. All signs pointed to something having happened just now.
âNancy, are you really okay?â Nicholas asked with deep concern.
âYes, Iâm fine, really. Donât worry about me. Everything is fine here. Just focus on your work. Iâll be waiting for you to come back.â
Nancy finished speaking and smiled once again.
But the more she smiled, the harder she tried to appear strong, and the more she tried to stop him from worrying, the more uncomfortable he felt.
He had never felt so powerless before.
However, what could he do for her through a phone call? Besides offering comfort, there was nothing more he could provide. He couldnât even give her a hug.
At that moment, he realized just how luxurious a hug could be for two people separated by 2/4 distance.
âNancy, if something happened, please donât keep it from me. Tell me, Iâll face it with you, and Iâll bear it with you.â
âI know.â Nancy nodded, then added, âNicholas, Iâm feeling a bit tired. I want to rest for a while.â
âAlright, then get some rest.â
Although he wanted to see her a bit longer and hear her voice a bit more, he could only agree to end the call after seeing her in this worn-out state.
After hanging up, Nancy felt like all her strength had been drained from her. She slumped against the door, sliding down along it until she was sitting on the floor.
It was only then that she allowed herself to cry, letting the tears flow freely.
Fortunately, she had hung up the call. Otherwise, she feared she wouldnât have been able to hold back.
If she had waited just a bit longer, she wouldnât have been able to stop herself. She would have poured out all her fears and grievances to him.
But what could he do now, being so far away?
Telling him wouldnât solve anything. It would only make him worry more.
She didnât want to become a burden to him, and she wanted to be someone who could face storms with him.
It would be a lie if she claimed not to feel wronged or sad.
Who wouldnât want their beloved by their side in such moments?
But she had to learn to be strong.
On the other end, as soon as Nicholas hung up, he immediately called Lynn. âSomething seems to have happened to Nancy at the hospital. Go find out what happened. Be discreet and donât disturb her.â
âYes, Mr. Sallow?
Lynn worked quickly. After all, there were surveillance cameras all over the hospital.
She asked around casually, and Nancyâs activities in the hospital that morning were quickly mapped out.
Throughout the morning, despite being tired, her emotions had been normal. She worked energetically.
3/4 The change occurred in the afternoon-after she went to Julianâs office.
Lynn reported this information to Nicholas promptly.
âAre you sure?â
âMr. Sallow, Iâm very sure.â
On the other end of the call, Nicholas remained in a rigid position for a long, long time after hearing this. His face was devoid of warmth, and he exuded a chilling and terrifying aura. His entire being was overwhelmingly serious.
Julian? Itâs him again.
What made it even more intolerable for him was that Julian had tried to hurt Nancy.
As Nicholas reflected on Nancyâs smile during their video call, he couldnât help but feel a deep ache in his heart.
It was evident that she had been hurt, frightened, and upset. She had even shed tears. However, not only was she unable to express her emotions to him, but she also had to put on a forced smile to reassure him and prevent him from worrying.
This is entirely my fault. I am solely responsible.
In such a critical moment, he was unable to be by her side and provide her with the support she needed.
Nicholas could no longer maintain his composure. Without hesitation, he immediately initiated a video call with Nancy.
