Chapter 201
Mr. Sallow's Sinful Wife by Maisie Chasey
Chapter 201 Threatening To Reveal Her Identity âImpossible.â
Nancy balled her fists and glared at Felix. Her eyes were blazing as she growled, âDonât slander my mom.â
âSlander?â
Felix sneered, âWhy would I stoop so low as to slander a woman of questionable virtue like her? Think about your name. Youâre Nancy Cohen, and your mother is Eunice Cohen. You took her last name. Youâre not a Hugo. Do you think I would let you take the last name Cohen if you were my daughter?â
His words shattered Nancyâs defenses completely.
She understood Felix all too well. If she were his child, he would have wanted her to have his last name Hugo, not Cohen.
When Nancy was a child, she once asked her mother, âMom, why do my classmates have their fatherâs last name, but I have yours?â
At the time, Eunice hugged Nancy tenderly and explained, âItâs because my last name is special to me, and your dad is an easygoing and generous man. He doesnât care about such formalities, so thatâs why you have my last name, Nancy. Do you not like it?â
âNo. I love it.â
Nancy was a naive child back then. She believed her motherâs explanation.
Later on, even in college, she found out that some kids took their motherâs last names too, so she didnât think much about it.
Unfortunately, things were not as simple as she had thought.
âMom...â Nancy raised her head, her heart filled with pain.
All along, she longed for a fatherâs love and yearned for a father figure, but fate had played a cruel trick on her.
If she wasnât Felixâs daughter, then whose daughter was she?
âWho is my biological father?â Nancy looked at Felix.
âHow should I know?â
âWhy wouldnât you know? Iâm begging you-considering weâve been a family for over two decades, please tell me who my father is.â
Felix waved her off impatiently. âEven if you beg me, I canât tell you. I really donât know. When your mom met me, she was alone.
There was no information about her family either. Iâm starting to suspect that even her name was fake.â
âThen... After all these years, werenât you curious at all? Didnât my mom ever say anything?â Nancy asked, eager to find out more information.
âNope. Before we got married, we made an agreement. I was not allowed to ask any questions about your father. She would give me money, and I would pretend to be your father so that everyone would think you were a legitimate child.â
Felixâs words extinguished the last glimmer of hope in Nancyâs heart.
She staggered on her feet, almost falling to the ground if she didnât have something to support her.
However, Felix only grew more impatient and annoyed. âI didnât come here today to help you reunite with your father. Iâm telling you again, Nancyâif you donât gather 140 thousand by tomorrow, I donât know what Iâll do.â
âWhat will you do?â Nancy asked, a sense of foreboding washing over her.
âI have been forced to be a father to someone elseâs child for over twenty years now. Iâm fed up. If you donât get the money, donât blame me for tarnishing your motherâs reputation. Iâll let all her old neighbors, colleagues, and friends know just how promiscuous she was. Since you love your mother so much, Nancy, Iâm sure you donât want her name to be disgraced after her death. Sheâll never rest in peace! And you. If the entire hospital finds out that youâre a b*stard child who doesnât even know who your father is, how do you think they will view you?â Felix sneered.
He no longer had any reason to pretend.
He was a malicious demon, spewing his venom with every word he uttered. He was repulsive and terrifying.
Nancy felt even more helpless because she had no choice.
She could ignore what might happen to herself. She was willing to give up her job and move somewhere else.
But she couldnât let her mother suffer disgrace. Her mother had worked so hard to give birth to her and raise her.
How could she allow her motherâs reputation to be ruined and become the subject of everyoneâs scorn after her death?
Nancy couldnât accept that.
Felix knew exactly how to push her buttons.
âDonât you have any decency, Felix? Even if Iâm not your daughter, my mother lived with you for decades. You two were married for so long. How could you be willing to destroy her reputation?â
Nancy was so furious that her eyes turned red.
Her whole body trembled.
âMarried?â Felix scoffed. âHave you ever seen a married couple who sleeps in separate bedrooms? Yeah, we were married in the eyes of the law, but throughout those twenty-odd years, she never let me touch her. What kind of wife was she?â
âEven so, you lived under the same roof for so long. My mom paid for all your bills and expenses. She didnât use any of her own money. She gave it all to you.â
âShe didnât do it willingly. She was forced to do so because she didnât want me to expose the fact that youâre an illegitimate child.â
Felix stepped forward and grabbed Nancyâs chin.
âYour mother is no saint, Nancy. Do you think sheâs so great? She only did it to protect you. Iâm telling you one last time. If you donât get me 140 thousand by tomorrow, Iâll expose your identity and your motherâs sordid past.â
With that, Felix turned on his heel and left.
âFelix... you heartless man!â
Nancy screamed in anger at his retreating figure.
One hundred and forty thousand?
She couldnât gather that much money, not even if she sold herself.
But she would never let Felix ruin her motherâs reputation.
No matter who her father was, her mother was still the best mother in the world to her.
Nancy was not going to let her mother suffer such disgrace after her death.
Unfortunately, she didnât have that much money.
What should I do?
Nancy hugged herself, unable to hold back any longer as tears streamed down her face.
After work, Nancy checked her funds. She tried to borrow money, but she could only raise approximately 30 thousand. That was far from 140 thousand.
There were only two people she could borrow money from-Linda and Nicholas.
ar Linda had returned to work yesterday. She said there was an upcoming performance, and she needed to focus on her dance training for a month. During that time, she would be cut off from all outside communication. She wouldnât even have access to her phone.
Nancy found herself unable to contact Linda due to the circumstances.
Regarding Nicholas...
Nancy raised her head and let out a sigh. They had recently reconciled, and she didnât feel comfortable asking him for such a large, sum of money.
Furthermore, it was Felix who needed the money.
Prior to marrying Nicholas, he had warned her, âNancy, your father is addicted to gambling... He will always be in debt. Please never consider asking me for any money on his behalf.â
