Chapter 205
Mr. Sallow's Sinful Wife by Maisie Chasey
Chapter 205 Hardening His Heart Against Madelline âHello. Is that you, Nancy?â
When a womanâs crisp voice rang out, Puck slapped Felix in the face and glared at him.
Puck was about to throw the phone when Madelline continued, âNancy, are you looking for Nicholas? Hang on. Iâll call him over.â
However, Madelline ended the call.
Call him over? Why would I ever do that?
Meanwhile, Felix was cupping his face while pleading, âMr. Wolfe! You heard her, Mr. Wolfe. That woman said the name Nicholas. It really is his number. My daughter really is his wife.â
âSo what? A man who would leave his wife alone at home and have an affair with another woman would want nothing more than for his wife to die so that he could marry his mistress.â
âThatâs not true, Mr. Wolfe. Itâs not what you think!â
Felix tried his best to explain. âMy daughter and her husband love each other very much. All the Sallows love my daughter. Men sometimes have to put on a show for work. After all, the Sallows are a prominent family. They wonât abandon my daughter.â
Seeing that Puck didnât say anything, Felix continued, âAs long as you have my daughter in your hands, Nicholas Sallow will definitely give you money. Heâll even give you 1.4 million, let alone 140 thousand. Iâm begging you, Mr. Wolfe. Please have mercy on me just this once!â
Puck frowned as he looked at the ceiling.
He seemed to be deep in thought. After three minutes, he released Felixâs collar and personally smoothed out the wrinkles.
âListen carefully-I can call it even between us. My only request is that you give her to me.â
Felix was overjoyed upon hearing that. âYes, of course, Mr. Wolfe. Thatâs great. You have to mean it, okay? You canât ask me for 140 grand or get people to harm me.â
âOf course. Iâm a man of my word.â
âAlright, then. Iâll leave her to you. Iâll get going, Mr. Wolfe.â
âSure. Go on.â
Once Felix left, Puckâs men looked at Puck. âAre you sure this is fine, Mr. Wolfe? Kidnapping is a serious crime.â
Puck smirked coldly. âRemember this-if it works, weâll make a huge profit. If it fails, the kidnapping and blackmail have nothing to do with us. Itâs that womanâs father who greedily kidnapped his own daughter to ask his son-in-law for money.â
âThink about it. Wonât this news cause a stir if it gets out?â
âI see. Hahaha! Youâre so smart, Mr. Wolfe. Youâve got the best mind ever.â
Puck smacked the guy on the head. âYou should learn a thing or two, then. Donât be such a fool.â
âYes, of course, Mr. Wolfe.â
As soon as Nicholas returned to the room, he sensed something was wrong before even picking up his phone.
He looked at Madelline, who was lying on the hospital bed, with an icy expression. âDid you touch my phone?â
âWhat? I didnât.â Naturally, Madelline refused to admit it.
Nicholas picked up his phone and checked it carefully.
Madellineâs heart raced with fear.
Thankfully, she had deleted the call record.
That way, even if he suspected her, he couldnât accuse her of anything without proof.
Just when Nicholas failed to find anything suspicious, and Madelline let her guard down, he said, âDonât try to lie to me, Madelline. Iâm going to ask you one more time-did you touch my phone?â
Since there was no evidence, Madelline denied it even more firmly.
Nicholas furrowed his brows. His voice washed over Madelline like a bucket of cold water..
âMadelline, I gave you two chances, but you refused to tell the truth. Iâm extremely disappointed in you.â
Madelline bit her lip and made a pitiful expression.
However, that only made Nicholas even more irritated.
All he could think about right now was Nancy.
Ever since the call yesterday, it had been over twelve hours since they last spoke.
Ever since they got back together, they had never gone this long without contacting each other, except when he was unconscious.
Not only did she not call him, but she didnât even send a text.
âIâm not lying, Nicholas. I was resting on the bed the whole time.â
Nicholas knew that if he didnât present the evidence, Madelline wouldnât admit to anything.
He unlocked his phone while saying firmly, âI left my phone to charge when it had 1% battery left. Up until earlier, when I took it off, it had been charging for two minutes. Usually, my phoneâs battery would be at about 36%, but now itâs less than 30% charged. Itâs obvious that someone took it off the charger. Do you still insist on sticking with your lie?â
Now that Madelline had been confronted with clear evidence, she bit her lip and pleaded pitifully, âIâm sorry, Nicholas. I just took your phone to check the time. I didnât want you to misunderstand me, so I was too afraid to admit the truth.â
Nicholas stared at her. âMadelline, Iâm thankful that you willingly put yourself in harmâs way to save me. I admit that I owe you and that I have no way of repaying you, but I told you this before-Iâll repay you in any other way except with myself.â
He took out a card from his wallet and placed it on the table. âThereâs 1.4 million in here. Whether itâs cars or houses, as long as you like them, Iâll buy them for you. If you like dancing and want to start a dance school, Iâll help you do it. But...â Nicholasâ voice was low and serious. He looked at Madelline solemnly. He meant every word he was saying. âThatâs all I can give you. Nancy is going to be my Sheâs the only one Iâll marry. I wonât let her suffer because of you. That would be unfair to her. I wonât owe her because of you. I wonât hurt her.â.
wife.
Nicholas handed the card to Madelline and said, âYou can take your time to consider what you want.â
Then, he got up and left.
When he was completing the paperwork to discharge Madelline from the hospital, the doctor informed him that she was well enough to leave.
However, before Nicholas could leave the room, Madelline screamed, âNicholas!â
He didnât even turn around to look at her.
âIs this truly your desire? Are you truly requesting that I keep my distance from you?â
Nicholas remained steadfast, refusing to turn back towards Madelline. The morning light illuminated half of his face as his back remained turned.
With unwavering determination, he replied, âIndeed. Stay away from me. Keep your distance, as far as possible.â
