Chapter 21
Mr. Sallow's Sinful Wife by Maisie Chasey
Chapter 21 Nancy Fell Into The Swimming Pool âYeah, itâs quite urgent,â Nicholas said..
Nancy tightened her grip on her hand, and it seemed there was no need to continue speaking.
âMadelline had a check-up today, and her condition isnât looking good. Her emotions...â
Nancy immediately tilted her head and said coldly, âFine, then go quickly!â
She wanted to avoid hearing a word of the reasons.
Why explain when he has already chosen?
After Nicholas left, Nancy was helping to greet family and friends as a regular member of the Sallows.
Because of her pregnancy, Nancy felt tired after standing for a while.
Her feet hurt a little to stand on.
She was wearing a new pair of shoes today, but they were unexpectedly causing blisters.
Nancy took a momentary break, seating herself in a nearby chair to apply a band-aid to her heel to relieve the pain and discomfort caused by blisters.
As soon as she sat down, she heard a sharp and mocking voice in her ear.
âOh my, how disappointing. We could meet Nicholasâ wife today, but she didnât attend. Do you think she must be incredibly ugly or fat, so sheâs too afraid to show herself?â
Nancy vaguely remembered the girl who was speaking. She seemed to be Nicholasâ distant. cousin, but Nancy couldnât recall her name.
âI donât think so. Jacob would never arrange such a terrible woman for Nicholas. Sheâs not coming out because sheâs too embarrassed. I heard her family is in an inferior condition. Her mom is at nurse, and her dad is a gambler. If it werenât for her mom saving Grandfatherâs life, with her background, she could never match up to the Sallows.â
âChildren from small and humble families are just pitiful. They look poor and shabby, not to mention their unimpressive appearance. Thatâs why Nicholas hasnât brought her out. Heâs afraid of becoming a laughingstock.â
The two young girls stood to the side, discussing and ridiculing Nancy as if no one was listening Nancy clenched her fists. They could make fun of her, but they couldnât make fun of her family, especially her mother.
1/4 She was not one to seek trouble but would face it when it came.
Nancy put on her shoes, straightened her clothes, and walked over. âSeeing that you two are so pretty, gossiping about others behind their backs is not good!â
Both girls turned to look at her at the same time.
Then, with a contemptuous smile, they grunted coldly, âWho are you? Itâs none of your business.â
âIt doesnât matter who I am. What matters is that Iâm not used to seeing you guys gossiping.â
The two girls laughed again and looked at her condescendingly. âThen what? Let me tell you, this is the Sallows, and itâs my turf.
I can say whatever I want. You canât tell me what to do.â
âOf course, you can talk. Itâs your freedom of speech, but you canât make stuff up.â
âWhat do you mean?â The girl clutched her arms and stared at her incredulously. âHow dare you contradict me! I think youâre tired of living.â
After that, one of the girls behind her suddenly reached out and pushed Nancy.
Nancy was caught off guard, not expecting that they would dare to cause trouble in front of so many people on Grandfatherâs birthday.
She canât swim.
And the water in the pool was freezing.
As soon as she fell in, she felt freezing.
She opened her mouth, about to shout for help, but the pool water instantly choked her.
After a few flutters, Nancy began to sink rapidly.
The girl probably realized that she had acted too impulsively. Upon seeing that Nancy couldnât swim and not wanting to cause a fatal accident, she immediately cried out for help, âHelp! Someone has fallen into the water. Please help!â
âPlease help!â
The two girls started shouting for help.
Soon, the security guards from the Sallows jumped into the water. They pulled her out of the pool when Nancy was on the verge of losing consciousness.
Hearing the cries for help, Sarah rushed over and instructed the security guards to handle the situation 2/4 Because today, she had been handling the entire birthday celebration on her own, from start to finish, both indoors and outdoors.
As for Albert, he had been enchanted by that seductress long ago, leaving even his fatherâs birthday celebration behind. He had said heâd be gone for half an hour, but it had been an hour, and he still hadnât returned.
Oh, right. Nancy.
Sarah looked at the entire hall and realized she hadnât seen Nancy.
âHey, Uncle Joe, have you seen Nancy? I havenât seen her for a while. Can you check where she is?â Sarah asked in a worried tone.
As soon as she stopped talking, she realized that something was wrong.
Could it be Nancy who just fell into the water?
âHurry, hurry! Uncle Joe, where did the person fall into the water just now?â
âShe is upstairs.â
Sarah immediately ran up wildly in high heels. âMadam, youâre wearing high heels, be careful,â Uncle Joe said, following her.
Sarah rushed into the room.
Sarah panicked when she saw that the person lying on the bed was Nancy. She sat beside her, holding Nancyâs hand and calling,â Nancy, please wake up!â
Hearing the calls, Nancy slowly opened her eyes and said, âMom, there are so many guests downstairs. Why are you here?â
âWhy didnât you tell me about falling into the water? How could such a thing happen to you? Tell me, did someone push you on purpose? I need to investigate this matter.â
âMom, I know youâve been taking care of all the guests today, and youâve been so busy. How could I disturb you with just a little accident? Besides, today is Grandpaâs birthday party. Itâs such a special day. I canât let my mishap overshadow his joy.â Nancy smiled.
Nancy meant what she said. She was indeed aggrieved.
But she couldnât ruin Grandpaâs birthday to get justice for herself.
She knew that once this matter was thoroughly investigated, Grandpa would seek justice for her. With that girl from the Sallows, things would only get more complicated, and Grandpaâs birthday. would definitely become a mess.
3/4 She was willing to bear this for the sake of Grandpa.
âWhereâs Nicholas? His wife got into such a big incident, and heâs nowhere to be seen,â Sarah asked.
The servants stood nearby, not daring to breathe heavily.
In the end, Nancy said, âMom, it seems like something has happened with Madelline, and Nicholas has rushed over there.â
âWhat?â Sarah was so angry that she almost lost her mind, âLike father like son, both are hooked. Iâll call him now and tell him to come back.â
The call quickly connected, and Nicholasâ voice came from there, âHey, Mom.â
âWherever you are, get back here right now.â
âMom, Iâm sorry. Madelline...â
Sarah interrupted Nicholas before he could finish, âNancy fell in the water and is now very sick. Are you coming back or going to see that mistress?â
Nancy suddenly held her breath, listening intently to the answer on the other side of the phone.
Nicholas, will you come back?
Will you give up going to see Madelline for my sake?
Nancy bit her lip, realizing how desperately she cared, how much she wanted.
She didnât ask for much.
Just one time, even if it were just this one time, she would be satisfied.
Soon, she heard Nicholasâ response from the other end.
