Chapter 34. The Oni

In This Together ▷ Stilinski

“Maybe it’s just sleep deprivation. Kasey, we don’t know if he has for sure has this, and I’m not qualified to even make this kind of assumption..” my mom said slowly.

I was trying to busy myself with cleaning up the papers from Claudia’s file that I had dropped. It was insanely hard to keep my hands from shaking, and eventually I just gave up and sat down on the floor.

What the hell is happening to us?

I had thought maybe our behaviors had been the result of the human sacrifice thing, and how we were all dead for sixteen hours, well I don’t know what I was… I guess I was sort-of in limbo. I had never imagined that Stiles’ insomnia, panic attacks, and inability to read had stemmed form a mental disorder.

This is the worst case scenario. How the hell am I supposed to help him if he can’t even be helped by the Hospital?

My mom crouched down in front of me, “I think we need to get you out of here before someone else walks in… come on, give me your hands.”

She didn’t give me room for argument as she laced her fingers with mine and pulled me to my feet. I felt sick to my stomach. I’m prepared to get sick once more, just like I did this morning.

“Come on,” she mumbled as she led me into the hallway. She then gently pushed me into a chair and then checked the time on her watch. How long had we even been in there while I had yet another breakdown.

My phone was buzzing in my pocket, but I didn’t have the will to actually look at it right now. It’s probably Scott, either it’s him or it’s Allison.

“Kasey,” my mom said loudly, “I’m gonna take you home. Have you eaten anything today?”

“No, I don’t remember.” I sighed before standing up and following her out to the car. I didn’t want to leave Stiles, but I don’t trust myself around him right now. I need some time to let this all sink in before I possibly blurt out something that he doesn’t need to know.

“Hey, what’s going on?” my mom said the moment that she pushed through the screen door into our dining room. I glanced up from the ground and found my dad, Scott, and Kira all standing around an open Macbook.

My dad kept his gaze on my brother and Kira, “Maybe one of you should explain.”

Shadows seeped in through the windows and the room went dark. Kira’s eyes widened as she glanced at my brother in fear, “Scott…”

My skin felt as if it were on fire and I don’t know why. My eyes darted to the living room, where a black figure loomed, shadows and darkness seeping from it in waves and tendrils. My nightmares were starting to flash in the forefront of my mind, thinking that I had to escape the black fog, I backed up into my mom’s chest.

“Who the hell is this?” my dad asked as he walked past Scott towards the creature.

Needles were pressing down on my brain and I grabbed at the sides of my head to try and get the pain to go away. I have no idea what the hell is happening. My eyes were forced to stay open as I watched the intruder shove a sword through my dad’s shoulder as soon as Scott tried to stop him.

Kira and I screamed then; her in fear and myself in pain.

“Dad!” Scott shouted as my mom ran around me and fell to my father’s side, he lay still with his eyes closed, his chest heaving up and down.

Scott growled as his fangs shot out, Kira grabbed a hold of my arm and kept me close to her. I was trying to get a handle on my self, but I keep hearing voices shouting at me to close my eyes and go to sleep, but I know that if I do that, then I’m gonna lose control— and I’m not doing that again.

“Are you okay,” Kira asked as she watched me struggle. My hands latched onto the back of one of the dining room chairs for support. I swallowed down the pain and nodded once, “I will be, just give me a minute.”

Her eyes widened, “We don’t really have a minute.”

The front door flew open and my mom reacted instantly, dragging my dad by his arm out of the main hallway into the cutoff by the guest bathroom. Kira held her breath and tightened her grip on my arm as we watched the door fearfully, I let out a sigh when Derek slid in, his blue eyes lighting up his facial features.

“Oh thank God,” I breathed out in relief. I never thought that I would actually be relieved to have Derek pull his appear out of nowhere act.

The demonic ninja’s continued their assault and I felt completely and utterly useless. I mean, I can’t really do anything anyway, but at least I don’t have to hold on something for support and I’m coherent enough to offer helpful suggestions from a distance.

Glass shattering behind Kira and myself, sent us both flying to the floor. More-so because Kira freaked out and she pulled me along with her, it’s as if she had been instructed to stay by my side.

I craned my neck to see what the hell happened to the window, only to find Ethan and Aidan crouching on the table, growling at one of the ninja’s that had been standing directly behind where we had been. How did I not know that it had been standing right there?

Even though my joints were wailing in pain as I crawled across the floor, I pushed through it. Kira followed right behind me. I got into the living room before I finally stood up, only to have my body start to sway before I fell against Kira. She was shouting at me as my vision bean to go grainy, my house fading into shades of dark gray until I saw was blackness with those bright yellow dots guiding me into a quiet and warm place…

Kasey’s eyes were vacant as she stood up fully, her bones cracking slightly from her lack of posture she has used over years. She pushed away from Kira as she watched her mother sprint to the front door, throwing down a vial of ash to the floor. It shattered, letting the barrier be put in place. She sighed before realizing that her fellow Oni had been trapped outside, and she, was trapped on the inside.

“Scott this isn’t good!” Melissa shouted as she ran back to her ex-husband. Rafael was gasping as his blood seeped into the hardwood floors that had taken a supernatural beating thus far.

Kasey watched her brother run to their mother’s worrying side, trying to help her. She let out a huff and walked towards the front door. She held her outstretched hands towards the screen door and pressed it against the invisible barrier, the second that her skin hit it, a blue burst of light surround them an she drew it back in annoyance.

Kira followed Kasey’s movements and did the same. When Kira suffered the same feat, Aidan narrowed his eyes. He grabbed Kira’s hand tightly, “What are you?”

“She’s a Kitsune, idiot. Use your eyes, you can see it all around her. Younger ones give off an aura, she probably doesn’t know what kind she is either.” Derek stated as he walked towards them.

Kasey kept her eyes on Derek uneasily, he was watching her. Aidan jerked his head in her direction, “Kasey’s not a Kitsune, is she?”

“No,” Derek said evenly, “no she isn’t.”

Not wanting to have this course of action be a total disaster, Kasey and the Oni inside of her came to a conclusion. It was going to speak through her.

“We don’t want to hurt anyone, unless it is the one who has been harboring the spirit of Void.” It spoke through Kasey, using her voice but anyone could tell that it wasn’t her. The tone was low, dry, and even. There was no glittering humor or drops of sarcasm that was a Kasey McCall trademark.

Derek rolled his eyes, “Oh this is just great… Scott, you need to come in here!”

“Let them in,” It said before Scott walked back into the room.

He glanced at Kasey in confusion, “What’s going on?”

“We are the Oni. We are trying to find the Nogitsune. Let us check you, we will not hurt you unless you are the one harboring the dark spirit.” It said as it’s fellow warriors began to hit at the shelf surround the house. Anyone could plainly see that they were starting to get through the barrier.

Scott’s eyes widened, “Kasey—“

“Isn’t here right now,” It said quickly, “let us check and she will be returned safely until we need her again.”

Kira swallowed nervously, “It’s me… isn’t it?”

Scott shot her a look, “No. You’re not a dark spirit—“ his cell phone began to ring and he pulled it out of his pocket, seeing Allison’s name on the screen.

“Allison, please tell me you have something because they’re about to break in and I think one is possessing Kasey.” Scott said into the phone quickly.

She relayed all of the information that the Oni had said through Kasey. Scott pulled his phone away from his ear and slid it into his pocket, “Okay. Okay, let’s do this then.”

Kira glanced at me, “Scott—“

“Do you trust me?” he asked her quickly. She nodded reluctantly and he grabbed her hand. He let out a breath, “Don’t move.”

The shield around the door broke and the Oni poured in. Kasey and the one that took the most time hitting the door stepped in front of Scott and Kira. The room fell silent as the wolves watched this unusual supernatural exchange go down.

Kasey grabbed at Scott’s head, digging her fingers into his skin as he felt a paralyzation seep through him. The Oni beside her grabbed Kira in the exact same way. Derek had to restrain Aidan as he took a step towards Scott, wanting to protect him to ensure acceptance into his pack.

After several moments of silence and rapid breathing, the Oni disappeared and Kasey, Scott and Kira fell to the floor. Ethan, Aidan, and Derek all jumped to their aid. Derek grabbed a hold of Kasey and held her with as much fines as he could muster, afraid to hurt her further. Her eyelids slowly fluttered open as she came into consciousness. Normally she would cringe away from the idea of Derek holding her, but this time she relaxed in the arms of someone she knew she could trust that wouldn’t hurt her and mumbled out, “What the hell just happened?”

“I still think maybe you should get checked out,” Scott mumbled as we watched our dad be pulled away on a stretcher. Our mom was giving the nurses a play-by-play of what happened to him and what could be wrong with him.

My eyes widened considerably, “Yeah? And what should I tell the doctor? That I was possessed by a Japanese Demon? I’m sure they could prescribe something for that.”

“Kasey you’ve passed out twice in the span of eight hours,” he pointed out. I can’t blame him for being concerned. The crash course that I got on the ride over here was that apparently one of the “Oni” had gotten inside of me and had talked through me to Scott. I also then “checked” him for this demon called Void that was a dark spirit.

I sighed, “We can worry about me later, can we go find Stiles, please? Make sure that he’s okay?”

Scott was battling with giving into my plea, but thankfully he nodded and let me lead him down the hallway. I didn’t have the patience for the elevator, instead I took the stairs, walking as fast as I possibly could.

We reached the third floor as I pushed the stairwell door open, it felt as if something went straight through my chest. I stumbled backwards directly into Scott. What the hell was that?

“Kasey? You okay?” Scott asked quickly.

I cleared my throat and blinked a few times, “I don’t know… it felt like someone just punched me.”

“Great, don’t tell me that we’re dealing with invisible people now too.” Scott muttered in annoyance.

A thud from the examination room across the hall could be heard, and my eyes widened. Scott and I both pushed the doors open, and we found Stiles standing in the center, his back towards us.

“Stiles? You okay?” Scott asked wearily.

I held my breath as Stiles slowly turned around, “Yeah, fine. Kasey, I was worried about you… when I woke up you were gone.” he said as he walked over and pulled me into a familiar embrace.

Only, it didn’t feel very familiar at all.

The pain in my chest was back. And so was that whispering voice. Only instead of saying “Close the door,” it was saying, “Let me in,”

________________________________________________________________________________

I wanted to finish this episode out, because now I have given the last little piece of the puzzle about Kasey's nightmares. In case you were confused, she has had an Oni inside of her this entire time. That's why she keeps seeing the black fog and the yellow eyes, it was her ability of  trying to tell her that she was possessed and the in the dreams when she was running from the fog, in her mind she was trying to escape the possession.

I have had that idea for awhile and I wanted to tell you all about it in the first chapter of 3b, but I decided to wait, hahah. That is also why her ability has been warning her about Stiles being evil, because it knows that the Oni is using her to try and get the Nogitsune and her ability was able to pick up on Stiles being posessed before the Oni could. *patting myself on the back for that plotline because I am extemely proud of it*

Okay, so yeah... I hope you are all excited for the development of the story now that you know that Kasey has the Oni inside of her. If you thought that was a plot twist, you're not gonna be ready for the finale.

Be sure to fan, vote, and comment when you can! I love hearing feedback from you guys in general, especially when I can give actual responses to comments other than "thanks" or "i know right!"  -Sasha xx
