Chapter 16: Love Triangle

Written in the Nether

With a pop sound, Yvette’s phone fell to the ground. Fortunately, the phone case protected it, and the phone remained unharmed.

As Yvette crouched down to pick it up, Kagumo leaned over.

“What shocked you so much... Ahhh!” Kagumo let out a sharp, loud scream.

This immediately caught the attention of the other two.

“What happened?” Davis and Ansel both leaned in to look.

“Phew, Mo Ying was captured by an armed group.” Yvette took a deep breath and, after calming down, said.

The message they received was a photo of Mo Ying tied to a chair, her body covered in numerous injuries. There was another message, but Yvette quickly put the phone away, not allowing anyone to see it.

“Why? There’s no reason for that, right?” Ansel was confused. This was being investigated by the Special Operations Unit and had nothing to do with them.

“This is our fault,” Yvette said, surprising everyone with her words.

Davis immediately looked up: “Could it be because of...?”

“Yes, it’s exactly as you think,” Yvette nodded and continued, “We already knew that the armed group was linked to Poker, and the Special Operations Unit had sent us a request for help, but we didn’t respond because... I didn’t want to see Poker.”

“‘Didn’t want to see’—sounds like there’s more to it?” Ansel picked up on Yvette’s odd tone.

“I didn’t want to say this, but now that Mo Ying is in danger, we’ll be honest,” Yvette sighed deeply. “Actually, Davis and I were originally members of Poker.”

This shocking news was dropped just like that, leaving Kagumo and Ansel stunned.

“You... were assassins?” Kagumo looked at her two teammates in disbelief.

“Yes, this isn’t something we could casually talk about, so we kept it hidden, but we never expected it to lead to Mo Ying getting into danger,” Yvette nodded heavily.

“As far as I know, there are different ranks within Poker’s assassins. What rank were you?” Ansel asked after getting over his shock.

“Spades,” Yvette replied. Among all the Spades, they were considered the most skilled.

“That makes sense. You’re both really capable,” Kagumo said. But then she added, “But the Joker is even more powerful. The Joker really seems tricky.”

“There are many more people more skilled than us. In fact, if Mo Ying were in our organization, she could definitely rank above Spades,” Yvette said.

“Let’s get back to what they want from us. They want us to return to the organization and assist in the mission,” Davis said.

“On one hand, they think our skills would be a huge help. On the other hand... Yvette, you can explain it,” Davis recalled the unpleasant experience.

Sigh, “That tone—it must’ve been her sending the message. That madman,” Yvette shook her head. “Her name is Caroline, a member of the armed group and also a Spade. She’s obsessed with me.”

“I saved her during a mission once. She had nowhere to go, and since she was an Affinity User, I took her in and taught her. Then one day, she suddenly confessed to me,” Yvette said resignedly. “I rejected her, telling her that it was just her admiration for me as a teacher being mistaken for love.”

“And at that time, she had just agreed to my proposal!” Davis added angrily.

“Mm, I explained that to her, but she wouldn’t give up. She kept asking what she lacked, even secretly placing a tracker on my personal belongings. I even found handcuffs at her house,” Yvette said.

Oh, she’s a yandere!

“When I was thinking about what to do, the situation miraculously resolved. Another Spade, who liked Caroline, took her away. Then Caroline disappeared, and later I heard she was imprisoned. Hmm, this person who liked Caroline is also... not normal. Oh, and now she’s appeared in the armed group, so she must’ve escaped. She probably even killed the person who was imprisoning her,” Yvette continued.

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

“That’s another reason they want us to join—Caroline wants me to join, and Davis was probably just dragged along,” Yvette concluded this complicated story involving yandere, love triangle, and obsession.

Kagumo: “...” I’m really good at Western continent common language, so why am I still not getting this?

Ansel: “...” Maybe it’s not the language issue?

The two of them were so absorbed in the fascinating story that they temporarily forgot about their friend being captured.

“Ah, so... they’re using Mo Ying to threaten you into joining?” Kagumo finally snapped back to reality and asked.

“Exactly,” Yvette nodded.

“So, that’s the situation.” Meanwhile, Wei Zhi Heng finished telling the story.

“...” Mo Ying’s expression was unexpectedly calm, probably because she rarely showed any emotion.

“Yandere... Although such characters often appear in fictional works, in reality, it’s better to avoid such people,” Mo Ying seemed to speak from experience.

“You seem to have experience,” Wei Zhi Heng said.

“Mm, my ex-boyfriend was a yandere,” Mo Ying said.

“You actually have an ex!” Wei Zhi Heng was curious about Mo Ying’s romantic history. He asked, “How many exes do you have? Which one was the yandere?”

“Two. The first one had some problems. Why are you making that face? Two exes isn’t a lot, right?” Mo Ying was displeased by Wei Zhi Heng’s expression.

“Oh, no, I’m not surprised you have exes. I’m just really interested in your story. Can you share more details? Like, did your ex do anything exciting?” Especially the first one.

“No, I’ve already said enough. Your turn. I bet you’ve never had a girlfriend,” Mo Ying didn’t want to talk about the past.

“What? I have!” Wei Zhi Heng angrily retorted, feeling insulted about his charm.

“Oh! Someone actually accepted a partner with a fraudulent tendency! Was it someone from the organization?” Mo Ying pretended to be surprised.

“No, and I’m single now.”

“Don’t you consider finding someone in the organization? With your looks, it shouldn’t be difficult.”

“No, I’m not interested,” Wei Zhi Heng said.

“Oh, I see. There aren’t many Affinity Users, so your options are limited. Those ten people from last night were probably your entire pool of choices.”

“That’s not...”

Wei Zhi Heng suddenly realized that Mo Ying was trying to trick him into leaking information. He stepped forward and pressed down on Mo Ying’s injury.

Mo Ying winced slightly from the sudden pain.

“Be aware of your current situation,” Wei Zhi Heng warned, then moved his hand away. “I think you have quite the talent for deception!”

Wei Zhi Heng changed to a gentler expression, gently caressing Mo Ying’s cheek: “I think you’re great. How about becoming my girlfriend? Trust me, I’ll treat you well.”

Having experienced this before, Mo Ying immediately recognized that Wei Zhi Heng was using his ability. Her expression didn’t change: “So, you’re using your ability when confessing. That way, it doesn’t matter if the other person can accept your deceptive tendencies. A scary person.”

Wei Zhi Heng froze, then Mo Ying gave him a slightly wicked smile: “And usually, I’m the one on top. Are you sure about this?”

Wei Zhi Heng: “...”

He quickly stepped back, staring at Mo Ying in disbelief.

“Also, compared to deception, I prefer psychological influence. At least it’s more popular in terms of social connections,” Mo Ying added.

Wei Zhi Heng: “...”

No, the data didn’t say this woman was this sharp-tongued!

He turned around, deciding to leave the room before Mo Ying drove him insane.

“Wait a minute,” Mo Ying called after him. “Do you really have any information on that book?”

Wei Zhi Heng stopped in his tracks. “You mean the Book of Prophecies? I don’t mind telling you.”

“That’s one of our objectives.”

The Book of Prophecies, as its name suggests, records future events, with details so precise it’s almost eerie. It is said to have been written by a demigod of fate and is sought after by many factions. The book is very distinctive, with a silver cover and golden eye-like patterns on it.

“Amanda?” Colton’s voice came from nearby.

Amanda, absorbed in her phone, snapped back to reality. “What’s up?”

“What are you looking at so intently?” Colton asked.

“Nothing, I was checking information on the Book of Prophecies,” Amanda closed her phone screen.

“You know about that book too? Sounds like there’s been new news about it recently,” Colton said.

“Yeah, seriously. Hardly anyone’s seen it in person, and no one’s sure if its predictions are real, but there’s a bunch of people fighting over it,” Amanda said, clearly tired of the conflict.

“People will fight over intangible things,” Colton opened the meeting room door and walked in.

“Hey, that should be something I, the one with the psychological affinity, say,” Amanda remarked as she entered the room.

Matthew and Emilia were already inside the meeting room. Emilia was playing a matching game, while Matthew was lying on the table, staring off into space.

Colton knocked on the table to get everyone’s attention.

“Oh, Colton, you’re here.” Matthew pushed himself up from the table, then slouched back into the chair, making it clear he wasn’t sitting properly.

Colton had no energy to comment on Matthew’s posture. He cleared his throat and said, “I’ve got some good news. Yvette just contacted me and said she’s willing to help with the investigation.”

Bonus skit 1:

Kagumo: This story feels so exciting!

Ansel: A tangled love triangle, plus a yuri relationship... I feel like I’ve seen this in some anime.

Kagumo: Could it be an anime about a band?

Bonus skit 2:

Wei Zhi Heng: I’m really interested in this yandere ex-boyfriend story, especially the fact that he was willing to be the one on the bottom.

Mo Ying: No, that part hasn’t happened yet, you can’t say it. As for when you’ll find out, you’ll have to ask the author.

Author: It might take some time.
