Chapter 11

011

Lone Wolf (h.s au)

I wake to Harry's wolf beside me, his nose pressed to my ear. He's been in his wolf lately on the outside chance someone threatens the pack house. When I turn to look at him, his teeth drop something and I pick it up, my back the only thing really sore.

Read it, he says, my head nodding.

Wolfsbane may not kill you. Kidnapping my mate was a bad idea. Who will pay the price?

My head looks at him and he presses the end of his snout to my forehead, licking lightly.

I have to deal with an issue. Stay in bed and I'll be home soon. Okay?

I nod and kiss the top of his head, his wolf walking out of the room. Isaac comes back into the room and helps me sit up, my hand grabbing a book and reading. Since my phone shattered the night of the attack, I have resorted to reading.

Hours go by and I take more pain medicine, but Isaac runs into the room.

"Give me your arm," he says, my arm moving towards him.

"What happened?" I rush, needing to know if he's okay. He has to be okay.

"He was bitten by another wolf. His shoulder just needs to be healed," he says, my lips frowning.

"I want to see him."

He sighs and retracts some of my blood, his head nodding.

"I'll help you walk," he says, my hand grabbing his arm.

It's painful at first, walking really slow until we make it into the living room where Harry is. He's lying on his stomach with two other pack members who were injured, my aid in walking leaving me as I struggle to walk.

"Fuck, this hurts!" Harry yells, another writhing in pain.

"You shouldn't have attacked him Harry," Alex sighs, Harry fuming with anger.

"He purposefully put wolfsbane in my mate's drink. I will kill him," he grits, my feet hitting a board that creaks.

"Mae," he sighs, then yelling in pain as Isaac presses a shot into his shoulder.

"Get back in bed," he says, my body kneeling in front of his. I grab his hand and he calms down some, his shoulder healing almost instantly.

"Isaac said I could come here," I retaliate, his arms pushing himself up. The other men are healed and get up, moving out of the room. We're alone and he stays on the ground, wrapping his arms around my body.

"How do you feel?" he asks, my hands grabbing his cheeks. He literally has me in his arms. It's making me feel really small.

"I'm fine. Does your shoulder feel better?" I ask, his head nodding.

"Listen, I need you to go back to bed," he says, my head shaking. I smile and keep his face in my hands, brushing my nose with his.

"I'm fine. I want to stay with you," I say, his lips curved at my actions on him.

"You should rest," he whispers, my head shaking, setting my head on his.

"Harry, I've been bored and I feel fine. We should do something," I say, his hands on my back.

"What would you want to do?" he asks, my lips pressing to his cheek. I start kissing down his neck and he lays me down, crawling on top of me.

"Mae, anyone could see us," he whispers, my lips curving.

"Let them," I grin, his head shaking. He lifts me easily into his arms and takes me into the kitchen, handing me something to eat.

"Uh, Mae," he says, scratching the back of his neck.

"Yes, wolfie?" I ask, his lips curving.

"Do you think...that I could, uh, take you out? Like on date? Tonight?" he asks, my heart pounding.

"Really?" I smile, his head nodding.

"Yeah. If you want," he says, my arms wrapping around his neck.

"Yes I will," I say, kissing his lips lightly.

He lifts me off the counter and he sets his hands on my waist, lifting me so my legs dangle as I look down at him. I quickly grab his cheeks and kiss his lips, my lips in a smile as well as his.

"Ugh, get a room," Gemma groans, Harry letting me down and pulling me to his chest.

"Get lost," he says, her lips releasing a laugh at his embarrassment.

"Serious, just mate already. You look like it already," she says, my stomach turning. I let go of Harry and walk out of the room. It's weird hearing other people say we should have sex. I'm uncomfortable with the topic of sex because it's a lot of commitment to someone.

"Way to fucking go, Gemma," Harry grits, his footsteps heard as he follows after me.

"Mae," he sighs, scooping me into his arms way too easily.

"Don't listen to her. Please don't. Whenever you're ready," he says, my head nodding.

"Please, Mae. She's too love struck with Alex to know what comes out of her mouth. Our relationship is completely different," he says, kicking the door shut and sitting us on our bed. The room has been fixed since Harry destroyed it a few days ago.

"I-I get scared about sex. It freaks me out," I say, his head nodding.

"Why? If you don't mind me asking," he says, my head shaking.

"It's a lot of commitment, you know. I want to feel something for the person I do it with," I explain, his eyes watching closely as I get up and bite my lower lip.

"Feel what? Like...love?" he asks, my heart melting the way he says the one four letter word.

"I-I...yeah. I've never been in love before and I thought when you love someone, you have each other completely."

His face drops and gulps, burying his face between his hands. His fingers rake his hair and I watch him, curious as to what is going on with him.

He falls to the floor and yells, my hands catching him. His hands cover his ears and one of my arms cradles his body while my other hand presses to his forehead.

"Harry, listen to me. Block it out," I say, his eyes opening and they're bright red. My hand runs over his face and his eyes change back, his hand grabbing mine.

"Mae, you have to promise me you won't leave me," he rushes, my eyebrows frowning.

"Mae," he says, my head nodding.

"I'll never leave you," I tell him, his bare torso warm against my skin.

He sits up and I ask what happened.

"I'll tell you later. On our date," he smiles, winking before walking out of the room.

_____

"This looks okay?" I ask Gemma, her head nodding.

She apologized right before I asked her to help me get ready, the simple plaid dress belted at the waist. My hair is straightened and she put some of her make up on me.

"You look cute," she smiles, my head nodding. I put on my sandals and walk downstairs to meet Harry. He's talking with Riker, a wolf in the pack here, and I walk towards them.

Harry's wearing a black button up and has the sleeves pushed to his elbows, black jeans on his body. He looks really good.

Riker smiles at me and Harry whips around, his eyes meeting mine immediately. He sucks in a breath and smiles, extending his hand for me.

"Thank you for letting me borrow your truck," Harry says, pulling me into him.

"No problem," Riker says, Harry pulling me out of the house and immediately pulling me into him.

"You look really good," he says, my hands setting on his waist.

"So do you. You're wearing pants," I say, his lips curving. He nods and kisses my temple, leading me to Riker's truck. He helps me up and I smile, his hand pushing the door closed. When he gets in, he starts it and drives out of the forest.

"Can I hold your hand?" he asks, my head nodding. I reach over and he grabs my hand, his shoulders relaxing.

"Why are you so nervous?" I ask, his eyes glancing over at me.

"I-I've never been on a real date," he says, my lips curving.

"They're fun. I promise," I say, his lips curving. He parks on the side of the street and walks to my side of the truck, helping me out.

He wraps his arm around my waist and I grab his cheek, setting a small kiss on his lips that leaves him blushing.

He leads me down the street and I hear thunder in the distance, Harry taking me into an ice cream place. I smile, his eyes looking at me.

"This okay?" he asks, my head nodding.

"Perfect."

He orders a huge sundae we share and he doesn't look anywhere beside me, my eyes looking into his the entire time. We make small talk, his fingers holding mine tightly the entire time.

"What happened? Earlier in the room?" I ask, his lips releasing a sigh.

"He heard you talking. Your father. All he kept saying my head was that I wouldn't be able to love you and you wouldn't be able to love me because I'm not good for you," he whispers, my eyebrows frowning.

"I-I can't believe him. It's not true," I say, his eyes brightening at my words.

"Do you...you know?" he asks, my lips pressing together.

"I don't know. I care about you, but I wouldn't label it love yet," I say, his head nodding.

"Okay," he says, my eyes watching him struggle to form words.

"I care about you," he blurts, my head looking up at him.

"I mean, I care about you too. Like...a lot, " he says, my lips curving. I move into the seat beside him and he wraps his arm around my waist, my lips pressing to his cheek.

"Stop, someone could see," he flushes, my lips pressing to his.

"You're so shy about PDA," I grin, his head burying in my neck.

"It's weird kissing in front of other people," he says, my shoulders shrugging.

"Do you not want me to kiss you in front of people?" I ask, his head shaking.

"I kind of like it. I mean it's new to me."

I smile and he does too, my left hand coming to his chin. I kiss his lips lightly and he pulls me closer, his lips curving.

"We should go out more often. This is fun," he smiles, my eyes closing as he kisses me lightly again.

I think of an idea and I lean my lips into his ear, wanting to know what he'll think.

"Will you dance with me?" I ask, his eyebrows frowning.

"I-I don't know. Where?" he asks, my finger pointing outside. There is a little garden across the street I can teach him in.

"I've never danced before," he whispers, my head nodding.

"I figured. I'll teach you," I say, his head nodding.

He takes my hand, the two of us walking into the park. It's lightly raining but it doesn't bother me. He takes my hand and I lead him into the garden, his hand grabbing my waist. His feet keep lightly stepping on mine and he apologizes profusely, my lips curving.

"It's okay," I assure, slowly moving with him to help him learn how to do this.

It starts to really rain and he looks down at me, my arms wrapping around his neck. He pulls me closer and presses his lips to mine, my feet lifted off the ground.

"Can I take you home?" he asks, my head nodding.

We walk to the truck and I look at him when we get in, his eyes meeting mine immediately. My body crawls onto his and he rolls the seat back, my hands on his cheeks as we kiss. My body straddles his and my wet hair falls around us, his shirt sticking to his body. His fingers run along my sides and he runs his lips down my neck, my hands running back into his hair.

"Mae," he breathes, my hand reaching for his.

I hum in response and he brings his head up to mine, my arms wrapping around his neck.

"I have to tell you something," he says, my head nodding.

He sighs and I look at him, holding him close to me.

"I-I don't want to lie to you," he says, my eyebrows frowning.

He's upset, clearly. All he wants to do is be honest with me and now it's beating him up.

"Alex killed your father's mate," he starts.

"And now they want you dead."
