The Doctor’s Truth: Part 2: Chapter 34
The Doctor’s Truth: A MMF Ménage Secret Baby Romance (The Truth or Dare Series Book 2)
I watch from my post at the bar as Jason and Kenzi get lost in each otherâs arms. I donât think they even notice when the song switches and the room changes tempo.
The sight of them does something to me. It feels like a fist around my heart, squeezing too hard, too fast. My pulse quickens, but itâs something else, too.
Comfort, maybe. Itâs hard to tellâthe sensation is so fucking foreign.
Maria takes a break and folds her elbows onto the bar beside me. Her eyes land on the pair on the dance floor. âAw. Thatâs sweet.â
âWhat? The two of them?â
âNo. The way you look at them.â
I scrunch my eyebrows and put my wineglass to my lips. âI have no idea what youâre talking about.â
âYou should go. Dance with them.â
âSomeone has to watch the drinks.â
âMmhm,â she hums, clearly dubious. I feel her eyes scan me. âYou are always taking care of other people.â
âIt is my job. Literally.â
âIf I may askâ¦when you are done taking care of everyone else, who takes care of you?â
âIâm self-sufficient,â I retort. âLike a cat.â
She shrugs. âEven cats need a scratch behind the ears every now and then.â
âDonât make me cough up a hairball.â
She laughs. Then a customer calls her name on the far end of the bar, so she rises from her elbows. âTry to have some fun, Dr. Donovan,â she chides before she goes. âIt wonât kill you.â
Wonât it?
Kenzi and Jason come back to the bar. Kenzi is breathless, her cheeks flushed. âHow long do we have?â
âUnder a minute.â
âCan we go outside?â she asks, her gaze bouncing between the two of us. âIâd love some fresh air.â
âCouldnât agree more.â I swipe my leather jacket off the back of the barstool and slip into the sleeves.
