Chapter 3-
The next day Paige and I did our morning routine and I dropped her off at Elise and Grants house. I put her bag by the door, kissed Paige, and ran out to my car before Elise could lecture me again. By the glare I saw as I was backing out, she knew exactly what I was doing. I waved at her with a big grin and sped off, knowing I would probably get it later. When I got to work, I made my way over to my desk and sat down with a sigh. Avoiding Elise today didn't mean I could get away with it all the time, she would be on my back again soon.
"Hey man, what's up?"
I looked up and saw Grant walking by me to sit at his desk with a cup of coffee.
I chuckled "Avoiding your wife. That is why I'm a little early. I literally ran out the door."
"Dating lecture again?" he laughed and took a sip of coffee.
I booted up my computer "You know it." We both swiveled around to look at the work placed on our desks this morning. I'm not going to lie, if Grant were not straight and married- he would probably be my type. He had light wavy hair, with deep green eyes. He worked out a few times a week, so he had a nice body, with even nicer muscles. But beyond that, he was nice, and funny, and loyal to his friends and family. He loved his son Owen, more than anything. He loved Paige too, and always laughed at her antics. He was a great guy, with a great wife. When she wasn't trying to make me find a 'husband'.
The next few hours went by slowly. I could not stop thinking about the fact that maybe Elise was a teensy bit right, I should get out more. Date someone. But I don't know how to date! Even if I am a man, that shit can be scary. Excuse my language. I would never admit that to her though, she would gladly say "I told you so." No guy wants to hear that. I told Grant I was going to lunch and asked if he wanted anything, he said no- that Elise had made him bring a healthy lunch. I laughed at his disgusted face and grabbed my jacket to head out. I got outside and slipped my jacket on because it was a little colder than this morning. I decided to walk to the diner down the street, they had the best sandwiches around town. Well as far as I knew.
I got to the diner and walked in. The waitress smiled at me "Hey Erik, how's that sweet baby of yours?"
I laughed and sat down while she poured me some water "Very good Millie, she tried throwing her toys in the washer and dryer this weekend."
She threw her head back and laughed "That girl of yours is something else. The usual?"
I smiled and nodded. She walked away to tell the cook my order and I sipped my water. Millie was a nice lady. About the age my parents would be right now. She had light brown hair that was slowly gaining some silver, but a nice figure, and kind brown eyes. I came here as often as I could, and she always asked about Paige and had a smile for me. I loved Millie, and Paige did too.
Millie came back with my roast beef on rye and curly fries. I smiled at her and dug in, god I loved this stuff. I swear it came straight from heaven.
I looked up with a confused look when I felt someone sit down across from me in the booth. I looked up and saw probably the most attractive guy in Miami. He had stormy grey eyes and deep black hair, kind of like mine.
I raised my eyebrow "Can I help you?"
He flashed a quick smile "I'm Trent. And you?"
"I'm wondering why you're sitting there."
He laughed "That's not the answer I was looking for."
"Neither was yours." I continued eating while I was waiting for him to tell me.
He just looked at me and in a couple bites I was finished.
I stood up and grabbed my jacket "Well it was...pleasant and slightly weird meeting you."
He laughed and stood up "So polite. I just thought you were pretty hot, that's all." And he walked away.
I stood there shocked and watched him walk outside and sit down on a motorcycle. He met my eyes through the window and winked before taking off and turning right out of the parking lot.
I felt someone stop next to me and looked over at Millie.
"I see you met Trent." She chuckled.
I gave her a weird look "That guy is...weird. How do you know him?"
"Oh, he's my nephew, on my brothers' side. Poor guy." She shook her head and walked away with a pot of coffee in her hand. Making we wonder what she meant. I finally walked over to the register and paid before walking outside. That must be one of the weirdest lunches of my life, I mused. He thought I was hot. I'm guessing that meant he was gay. But who just sits at someone's table?
Gahh. I shook my head and got back to my office.
I spent the next 4 hours working and letting thoughts of Trent pop into my head, not able to stop it.
---------------
I spent the next week taking care of Paige, playing with her at the park, and working. Except thoughts of Trent kept flitting through my mind. I didn't understand it. I met him once, and he was hardly my type. Leather jackets and motorcycles were hardly my thing. He probably wouldn't be someone I should date, especially since I had Paige. Every day I got more frustrated with myself.
Pretty soon it was Tuesday again, and I vowed to forget all about Trent. I had gone to the diner on Thursday and Monday, and he hadn't been there. So, I figured today was safe. I was wrong.
About 2 minutes after I got my food, I felt someone sit down across from me and when I looked up it was Trent, with a dazzling smile. I was frozen for a second, looking at his lips, and when his smile got bigger, I knew he had caught me.
I used everything in me not to blush and raised my eyebrow at him "Yes?" while eating a fry.
"Hi."
"Hiii..."
He smiled again "So do I get to learn your name today?"
"Erik." I said and shrugged. I took a bit of my sandwich while he chuckled. I watched as he looked at my mouth, smirking.
"Nice to meet you Erik. So, how's your day goin?"
"You know you're being weird, right?" I questioned while I took the last bite of my sandwich.
He shrugged and I noticed how his leather jacket fit so snugly, defining his muscles. He must work out.
I shook my head to clear my thoughts and saw him looking at me expectantly.
"What?" I asked.
He shook his head with a mock disappointed look " I said would you want to go out sometime."
"Uhm...I don't think so." I said reluctantly. Part of me wanted to say yes, but most of me knew it probably would not be a good idea.
"Wait, how did you know I was gay?" I asked.
He smiled "I hoped."
I felt my brows go up in surprise, that took balls. He grabbed a napkin and wrote a number on it before standing up and handing it to me "Let me know if you change your mind." And I watched him walk out to his motorcycle and take off. Just like last Tuesday, he winked before pressing on the gas and disappearing.
I would be lying if I said that wink didn't produce a bolt of lust.
I looked down at the napkin, and the rational part of me said I would never need it.
But the irrational part of me grabbed the napkin and folded it up before placing it into my pocket.
I paid for my food and walked to my office, feeling the napkin burning a hole in my pocket the entire way.
