Chapter 41
Marrying
Chapter 41
Matthewâs heart tightened immediately at Sophiaâs words, questioning, âWhen and where? What kind of truck? Do you remember the license plate number?â
With that, he was about to take out his phone to call his bodyguards and have them investigate the vehicle through surveillance footage.
Being a prominent clan, the Grant family naturally attracted attention. If someone was truly targeting Sophia, Matthew would stop at nothing to find them.
Sophia finally found some comfort at Matthewâs words, her mood improving slightly. She waved her hand. âNo need to investigate. I already told you that the roads were socked in with fog yesterday morning, so the driver couldnât see me clearly. Since Iâm fine, I donât feel like dwelling on it.â
However, being always on guard, Matthew didnât find the matter as simple as it seemed. âThis is too dangerous. We have to look into it thoroughly to put our minds at ease. Grandma, tell me the location and time. Iâll send someone to do an investigation. Also, although that girl appeared to be rescuing you, she might have had her secrets. Did you give her anything? Or did you promise her anything?â
As soon as Matthew finished, Sophia couldnât contain herself anymore and lashed out at him with her cane. âShut up, you little punk! I was so scared I thought Iâd die under the wheels. You werenât all there, and that little girl saved me. Youâre not even thanking her but suspecting her instead. Iâd say youâre just hoping I die!â She was livid with anger.
Nathan quickly went over and patted her shoulders and back, comforting her, âGrandma, chill. Look at you. Youâre doing just fine, and youâve got plenty of years ahead of you!â
Matthew realized he had overreacted and endured the hit in silence. After Sophia had finished scolding him, he apologized, âIâm sorry.â
Sophia humphed. âWell, at least you know youâre wrong! That girl is my lifesaver. Youâve gotta help me find her. I need to thank her properly.â
Knowing he was in the wrong, Matthew agreed, âGrandma, do you know her name?â
Sophia replied matterâofâfactly, âNo!â leaving Matthew helpless.
Sophia, sensing his silence, suddenly perked up again. âI donât care! She saved my life, and youâve got to find her, no matter what. In religion, we talk about cause and effect. She did me a great favor, and if I donât do anything in return, this karmic debt will just keep hanging over meâ¦â
Sophia started talking gibberish, leaving Nathan completely bewildered.
Matthew looked apologetic, but halfway through Sophiaâs talking, he realized something was off. âGrandma, I donât think you want me to find her just to thank her.â
Sophia couldnât help muttering when she heard his words, âWhat can I say? Youâre the craftiest of them all.â
Matthew pretended he did not hear her. He was used to Sophiaâs tricks. She especially came over and talked so much today, acting angry and pitiful, and he had almost been fooled by her out of guilt. It wasnât until Sophia brought up the theory of cause and effect that he finally realized that she must be up to something.
Right away, he said, âSince that girl saved Grandma, we definitely need to thank her properly. Iâll find her and give her a nice, fat check. I think that should cover it, Grandma.â
Knowing that she had been read like an open book, Sophia didnât bother to hide it any longer. She threw her cane to the side and interrupted Matthew with a smile. âThatâs not enough! That girl saved my life. Sheâs my lucky star. I want her to be my granddaughterâinâlaw.â
