Chapter 47
Marrying
Chapter 47
Katherine was momentarily stumped by the question. âActually, Iâm not sure myself. Caleb is also a gaming streamer and seems to get all sorts of tips. Anyway, he makes a couple of grand a month, way more than I do!â
Valerie chuckled. âAlright, my lady. It just so happens my brother runs a small fruit shop. He knows the streets around here pretty well. Iâll ask him later.â
âThanks, Valerie!â replied Katherine.
Time seemed to fly even faster when good things happened. The car dealership was pretty quiet that afternoon. After six, Mr. Moreno organized a group dinner to celebrate Valerieâs promotion in advance.
Katherine got really tipsy. After everyone dispersed, Valerie was worried, so she used Katherineâs phone to call Caleb.
Twenty minutes later, a familiar white BMW pulled up at the roadside.
âValerie!â Caleb hurried over from the car. Katherine was completely drunk, clinging to Valerie like a koala bear. Only when Caleb took her did Valerie finally breathe a sigh of relief.
âCaleb, what brings you by?â Katherine giggled.
âWhy did you drink so much?â asked Caleb.
âIâm not drunk.â Katherine was a bit fuzzy but still had a sliver of consciousness. After stubbornly denying it, she shoved a plastic bag into Calebâs arms, mumbling it was a gift for him. Then, she crawled into the back seat of the car and passed out.
Caleb looked puzzled at the plastic bag, asking, âWhatâs this?â
Valerie chuckled. âKatherine said you like crayfish, so she specially packed some for you. Donât worry. Itâs all clean.â
âHuh?â Caleb was left helpless. âI see. Itâs sweet of her to think of me even when sheâs hanging out. By the way, Valerie, are you heading back? Can I give you a ride?â
âThanks, but Katherine is feeling unwell. You should take her back to rest. I rode my scooter here, and I can manage it on my own,â declined Valerie.
Caleb seemed a bit disappointed at the sight of the scooter behind Valerie. âThen be careful on your way back, Valerie. Oh, and by the way,â he added. âI havenât properly thanked you for that car accident yet. Iâve prepared a little something for you as a token of my gratitude, Valerie. You have to accept it.â
âThereâs no need for thatâ¦â Unable to resist Calebâs enthusiasm, Valerie reluctantly took it. Upon opening the box, she found a necklace inside, a design featuring stars and moons.
âThe moment I saw it, I thought it would suit you perfectly, Valerie. Stars and moons really match your aura. Do you like it?â Caleb looked at Valerie intently as if a bit nervous.
Unable to pinpoint the reason, Valerie felt a peculiar unease. However, Calebâs sincere demeanor made her question whether she was overthinking. It seemed that Caleb merely intended to express his gratitude. âThanks, Iâll take it,â she replied.
Caleb breathed a sigh of relief. âValerie, may I help you put it on?â
Valerie waved her hands quickly, refusing, âNah, I just remembered Iâve got some stuff to take care of at home. Gotta rush back; you should get Katherine home, too.â
She hurried to push her scooter, but the front wheel was stuck in the grass. Valerie tugged a couple of times, then felt the scooter lighten as Caleb lifted it from behind her. âThanks a ton; you boys sure are stronger!â
Valerie bid farewell to Caleb and hopped onto her little scooter. Caleb watched her silhouette fade into the distance before slowly getting into his
car.
Unbeknownst to them, this scene was witnessed in its entirety by two people in a car nearby.
âMr. Grantâ¦â The silence in the car was unnervingly heavy. Charles mustered his courage to speak up. âMaybe itâs just a misunderstanding.â Matthew, face devoid of emotion, responded after a brief pause. His voice, colder than the depths of an icy cavern, uttered, âLetâs go back,â sending shivers down Charlesâs spine. Hastily, Charles started the car.
But when it was time to hit the road, he hesitated again. âMr. Grant, umm, which home are we going to?â
As soon as the words left his mouth, he got another glare from Matthew as he expected. Charles felt a pang of discomfort, secretly regretting asking. âHow stupid I am! Mr. Grant obviously wants to go back to his own place! Miss Warren just got caught redâhanded, and based on my understanding

their relationship takes a turn for the better, she pulls some stunt that drives him up the wall. Itâs like sheâs dancing on the edge of divorce every day, testing the limits of his patience!â
However, just as Charles was about to turn around and head toward the Grant Manor, Matthew suddenly said, âSlotmond Estate,â leaving Charles utterly off guard.
