Captain Sobel

9 months later

Floss stood next to Gene knowing she was about to get bollocked for something random. Lt Sobel enjoyed making her life at Toccoa hell, he wanted her to quit, he didn't think she was good enough for his company and he took every opportunity to tell her. She looked forward at Winters and Nix and gave them both a smile and an eye roll, which made Nix almost burst out laughing while Winters gave her a hint of a smile back.

"You people are at the position

of attention!"

"Pvt. Perconte, did you blouse

your trousers like a paratrooper?"

- "No, sir."

- "Then explain the creases."

- "No excuse, sir."

- "Volunteering is one thing."

"You've got a long way

to prove you belong.

Your weekend pass is revoked.

- Name."

- "Luz, George."

"Dirt in the rear sight aperture.

Pass revoked."

"When did you sew on the chevron?"

"Yesterday, sir."

"Long enough to notice this. Revoked."

"Sir."

- "Name."

- "Malarkey, Donald G."

- "Isn't "malarkey" slang for bullshit?"

- "Yes, sir".

"Rust on the butt plate hinge spring,

Pvt. Bullshit. Revoked."

- "Name.

- Liebgott, Joseph D., sir."

"Rusty bayonet, Liebgott.

You wanna kill Germans?"

- "Yes, sir."

-" Not with this.

I wouldn't take this rusty piece

of shit to war...

...and I will not take you

in your condition.

For a minute Flo thought she had gotten away with it, when Sobel suddenly noticed her.

"Pvt Hilton open your medical satchel"

As Flo did, Sobel tipped all the contents of her satchel onto the dirt"

"How do expect to treat your men when your satchel isnt organized, and sort out your goddamn hair"

Flo was used to this and didn't bat an eyelid, the men around her when they could gave her sympathetic looks, but Flo just kept worrying about her Boys with this bully leading them into a war. She needed to be prepared.

"Thanks to these men

and their infractions, every man who had a weekend pass

has lost it. Change into your PT gear.

We're running Currahee."

"2nd platoon, fall out" Winters shouted.

"You have 2 minutes" Sobel added.

Floss immediately dropped to the ground and gathered all her medical supplies with gene helping her.

She ran into the barrack and quickly stripped off her uniform which had her PT gear on under it. Then while chucking her hair into a ponytail she ran towards the hill. As she passed Dog company there were still comments and whistles as she passed, but Captain Speirs soon put a stop to that with his death glares towards his men and with a nod towards Flo she ran past smiling at him.

"Where do we run?"

-" Currahee!"

-" What's Currahee mean?"

- "We stand alone"!

- "How far up? How far down?"

- "Three miles up, three down!"

-" What company is this?"

- "Easy Company!"

- "And what do we do?"

- "Stand alone!"

As Sobel stormed past Floss and Shifty started chatting,

"I dont know how you cope with all the insults Fizz"

Fizz was Lina's nickname that spread like wildfire around easy company

Flashback

After a particularly torturing day with Sobel when he had made fun of her having started her period on the assault course in front of easy, able and fox company, Flo had had a shower with Malark, Guarno and Penk keeping lookout and returned to the baracks where she walked in with a smile and saying to the boys "dont worry he cant keep me down for long". The boys had looked at her like she was awe inspiring and finally joe said

"Your like this coke bottle Floss , no matter how hard someone shakes you, you always maintain your fizz, you never go flat"

Well once joe had said that suddenly all the NCO's were calling her fizz including Nix and even sometimes Winters.

End of flashback

"I just block him out mostly, half the time I just imagine I'm back at home" flo smiled.

"What's your home like Fizz? Shifty asked, looking sideways at the young girl

"Cozy, I guess, you know about my siblings, parents and horse, of course, you've seen enough of my letters" laughed flo

"I hope I get to see it one day" Shifty said wistfully

"I'm sure you will Shift, I'm sure you will"

She could hear Sobel shouting his signature "Hi Ho Silver".

Suddenly Dukeman went over on his ankle and Flo stopped to help him.

"Do not help that man! Do not help that man!" Sobel yelled

Flo against Sobels orders put Dukes arm around her shoulder and helped him to the top and back.

At the bottom, Sobel said "You directly disobeyed orders can you tell me why?"

"I saw a man in my team in distree sir, as a medic my concern was for the man and I had to help him"

"If you can run Currahee in an hour, then you can stay in my company and if you can't then you can get on a ship and go the fuck home, time starts now"

As she passed her boys, they all gave sympathetic smiles.

Running up and down Currahee again, she thought her legs were gonna fall off. The thought of going home after all that had she had learnt and the relationship she had with easy was too horrible, this spurred her on and by the time she reached the bottom Flo was smiling at the fact Sobel hadn't won.

As she passed him, he looked very angry, but Flo wasn't fazed and gave him a smile and a salute before heading off to the barracks for a well earned rest.

"Your nickname suits you well, o great one with a death wish" Lieb smiled.

As she lay in bed, Flo talked to Lieb who was in the bunk next to her for a while before her eyelids dropped.

A few days later they were practicing hand to hand combat, this had always been hard for Flo, she kept having flashbacks to that night.

Flashback

"Bye girls" slurred Flo as she turned right at the crossroads to get back to her farm.

"Bye Flo"

"See you tomorrow"

"Remember your helping me train twilight to jump tomorrow"

"How could I forget Libs" laughed Flozz.

The girls had been to the local pub and were a tad worse for wear.

As Flozz was walking the 15 minute walk home, she had a feeling someone was watching her.

She started singing 'Run rabbit, run, run, run' to ignore the thoughts in her head.

Suddenly she felt a hot pain in her side and realized she had been stabbed.

"Give me your purse and jewellery, quick!" the man said.

Lying on the floor bleeding Floss did as he asked and he proceeded to notice the dirty look she had given him while paleing due to blood loss.

"How dare you look at me like that you, filthy, dirty whore"

He started kicking her and stamping on her legs. He left soon after that but not before touching her in intimate places.

With a sprained ankle, large blood loss, Flo managed to drag herself back home and silently made her way to her bathroom.

She cleaned herself up, luckily she had left her bathrobe in there. She soaked her bloodstained dress and prayed that the worst was out and she could wash it herself tomorrow.

She was feeling dizzy, but on the way home she had bandaged her side and the worst was over.

As she lay in bed that night, Flo vowed she would never let anyone take advantage of her again.

End of flashback.

With that thought in her mind, Flo hated fist fighting. She went through the motions with Bill and managed to get a few punches in.

But she kept flinching everytime bill came near her.

"Calm down fizz, I'm not gonna hurt ya" Bill sighed as she moved away again.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I've always had issues with hand fighting" Flo said quietly.

"Anything you wanna talk about?" Bill was starting to get concerned, Floss was never so reserved.

"Maybe later" she smiled.
