Chapter 9

"The Reason"

He blurted out laughing after I stated those words, I was surprised to see him do that.

To think he would act like this in front of me, i would have never expected it.

Everyone was also shocked to see the scenario considering they've never seen the crown prince in that state before.

He wiped off the tears from his laughter, "All of my life no woman has ever asked me to dance with her. But, I'll gladly accept. "

He extended his hand, and with that, i felt happy and accepted his offer. He then guided me to the center of the ballroom. When the music started playing, both of us bowed at each other, and the two of us started dancing.

Thanks to Cynthia's body who was trained for this, i was able to keep up with his level of skill. When I gazed at him, i was surprised to see that he was actually looking directly at me.

"You know your grace. This is the first time that we actually danced and communicated at each other."

Yeah..., even in the novel, the only time they probably talked to each other properly was the moment when he executed Cynthia, since she was always too shy to approach him first, that's why her feelings for him were never known because she acted as if he didn't exist, but truth was she kept looking at him only when he wasnt.

"Sorry about that, actually i wanted to talk to you for a very long time now, but you just seem so up there and im way down here, thats why it was hard for me to approach you at first."

His eyes widened, "Is that so?, but i thought it was the other way around for me."

"What do you mean?"

"I was always scared to approach you, your grace, since you accomplished so much even before you debuted, you became the youngest person in history to obtain a title, my father has recognized your abilities, and you're the first woman in the grand duchy to become a successor."

Woah, so he has thought of Cynthia like that for a long time?, mybe if she just interacted with him for once, it would have probably ended a bit differently for her.

"Oh myy, so, both of us were just scared to make the first move."

He chuckled, "It seems so."

As the music ended, both of us once again bowed at each other, and i told him, "Thank you, Your Highness for dancing with me, if you hadn't agreed to it, i wouldnt have known what you truly felt about me."

This time, he smiled genuinely, "Well, as a sign of this friendship, you can call me Kain."

Wait! did he really just say that? A fan girls biggest dream come true indeed. "Thank you, Kain, and you can call me Cynthia to."

"Then, it's a pleasure to be your new friend, Cynthia."

Suddenly, as i was about to wave goodbye to him, tears flowed down in my eyes, and my heart started aching.

Ehhh, why am i suddenly tearing up, and my chest... hurts so much.

As Kain saw it, he immediately went toward me and asked, "Is everything alright?, why are you crying?"

He pulled out his handkerchief and wiped my tears off. Looking at him, i realized, ahh i get now, as one of those saying goes 'mybe the mind will forget, but the heart will always remember'

No matter how theres a different soul inside her body, deep down Cynthia's heart still recognizes that she love's him, and mybe knowing the reason why it always feel like theres a distance between them, it made her heart feel at peace.

"Sorry about that, i dont know myself why i started crying out of nowhere, but really im fine, thank you Kain." I didn't finish my sentence outloud, but i continued in my mind 'for giving Cynthia's body the closure she needed.'

In my past life, I've never fallen in love with someone this deeply, truly the pain of ones heart for loving someone unrequited hurts so much. But im not Cynthia anymore, and these are her feelings, not mine. So maybe Kain and I will truly become best of friends in this lifetime.
