If she kept working in the sanitation office, she would inevitably be given preferential treatment, and the other employees would surely look askance at her.
âNo, I want a change in environment,â said Serenity.
âIs that so?â The director thought that the person behind Serenity must have offered her a decent job, so he approved Serenityâs resignation without much ha ssle. He did not deduct any of her salary for the time off she took and even paid her an extra monthâs worth of salary. He told the financial department to process the payment immediately.
After leaving the sanitation office, Serenity took a deep breath. The extra month of salary was the directorâs way of showing goodwill, but to be frank, he did it because of Jackson Valur.
If she had a backbone, she should have said no to the extra money.
But she could not.
Her grandmother was still in the hospital. The money she borrowed from Lisa would not last long. There might even be additional medical expenses in the future. Her debt would only keep piling up
Serenity walked over to where Xyla was to say goodbye to her.
When Xyla found out that Serenity had resigned, she asked, âWhy did you quit so suddenly?â
âI feel bad for taking time off all the time,â she said.
âThis injury is an accident. I can just work harder to cover for you,â said Xyla while looking at Serenityâs fingers that were still wrapped in bandages, âHow are your hands doing?
âTheyâre fine can remove the bandages in two days,â answered Serenity.
âWhat do you plan to do after this?â Xyla asked with concern.
âMaybe Iâll work as a delivery rider,â replied Serenity.
âThatâs hard work,â Xyla sighed. She would have to run around a lot. It was physically more exhausting than sweeping the
streets
afraid of hard work,â Serenity smiled. She was more afraid of not having any money.
One would only realize how important money was when one truly needed it.
When Serenity got back to the Valor Residence, she saw Jackson sitting on the sofa as soon as she walked through the door. By the looks of it, he was waiting for her.
âCome here.â He extended a hand towards her.
She bit her lip and, after a moment of hesitation, walked over.
He gently took her hand with both hands and stroked her bandaged-up fingers. âWhere were you?â
âAt the sanitation office,â she answered.
âThe driver said you adamantly refused to let him drive you and took the bus instead?â he asked.
âIâm not used to being driven around,â she replied.
âIâm glad youâre back. The driver said he didnât get a clear view of what bus you got on, so if you had come back a quarter of an hour later, I would have searched the whole city for you,â Jackson said casually, as if it was just an everyday conversation
By was startled, âSearched the whole city⦠fur me?â Thaiâs clearly overreacting.
âDidnât I tell you to get plenty of rest? What were you doing at the sanitation office?â he asked after telling the maid to bring over the medicine and bandages she had to change daily.
I went to quit my job,â she answered truthfully. He would probably find out anyway even if she did not tell him. You want to change jobs/Why donât I see if thereâs any position thatâs suitable for you in my company?â he asked.
