“I guess I can do whatever you want,” Lisa said. After all, she had no money to offer him nor had anything else but her life to give.

“Okay,” he said

She was stunned. Did he just… agree to her request? Was that not too easy?

“How’s your hand?” He asked as his gaze fell on Lisa’s hand which was still held under the cold running water. “Does it still burt?

“Not anymore,” she replied. “It’s been under the running water for quite a while, so I think I should be fine now.”

He turned off the tap, pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket, and used it to pat her hand dry.

“Is there any medicine in your house?” he asked. “Your hand is still a little red and swollen. I think we’d better apply some medicine on it.”

“Umm, I think there is

“Go get it, then”

Lisa hurried to her own bedroom and quickly got the ointment for burns. It was only then that she suddenly realized what she was doing. Why had she been so obedient in following Terry’s orders?!

Still, she shook off the thought and walked out of the room with the ointment. As soon as she stepped out, she saw Terry with her parents in the living room, engaged in a conversation

As she approached them, she heard her mother say, “Oh, so that’s how you two met! You got drunk and Lisa brought you back to the hotel and even took care of you the whole night! I always knew that our daughter Lisa is a kindhearted girl! We raised her to always be ready to help those in need!”

Lisa almost tripped over her own foot and fell when she heard that. Kindhearted girl? Always ready to help those in need?! if only her parents knew what had actually happened that night, they would never even think of saying those words!

“That’s right,” Terry continued. “If she hadn’t taken such good care of me, I would’ve landed in a lot of trouble. Sometimes, if you’re not careful, you might choke on your own vomit when you get drunk, which could then suffocate you and even kill you

As he spoke, he turned to look at Lisa before adding, “So, I’m really grateful to Lisa for taking care of me back then.”

Those words made Lisa feel so embarrassingly guilty!

Yet, her parents then replied, “Oh, don’t worry about it! You’re from the same country, after all! It’s only right that Lisa should help you when you are in need since you were both in a foreign country!”

Terry then took the ointment in her hand, leaned down, and began to rub it on the back of her hand which had been scalded by the hottes

Lisa’s parents exchanged a look when they saw this. Her mother then said in a warm voice, “Say, Terry, how big is your family? Are your parents still working or are they retired?”

“My father has passed away,” he replied, “and my mother has always lived abroad. She currently has no plans of returning to this country in the near future.

“Oh,” said Lisa’s mother, “Then, do you have any siblings?”
