Jackson’s face grew colder. “I’ll get the doctor here.”

“It’s fine. I’ll get a cold compress to treat it later,” Serenity refused.

“Don’t make me worry. Let the doctor take a look at it,” Jackson urged. “Alright, I’ve decided. Did the security guards at the mall hurt you? Are you hurt?

“I’m fine. I didn’t get hurt elsewhere,” Serenity tried to play it down, not wanting Jackson to worry. “Oh, right. By the way, I- I’m visiting Granny tomorrow. I went out to get something for Granny, but I couldn’t buy anything. Why don’t you come shopping with me after dinner tonight?” Serenity deliberately changed the topic.

Jackson gave her a deep look. A long moment later, he finally responded with a single syllable, “Sure.”

Just then, there was a knock on the bedroom door.

Jackson unlocked the door and opened it to reveal the butler, Elliot, standing in front of the door.

“Sir, the people from the Hall family are here,” Elliot informed.

“The Hall family?” Jackson repeated, an unsmiling look flashing through his eyes.

Serenity stiffened at what she had just heard, her face paling at the mention of the Hall family’s visit.

“Yes. Mr. and Mrs. Hall as well as their daughter, Jenny Hall,” Elliot said. “They said they must see you no matter what, Sir.”

“I’ll meet them,” Jackson answered

“Understood. I’ll make the arrangements, then,” Elliot said and left quickly.

Jackson returned to Serenity and said softly, “I’ll talk to them. Wait for me here. I’ll be back soon.”

Serenity remained stiff and looked at him with a confused look in her eyes. She seemed puzzled.

Jackson traced his finger along her bruised cheek. “I must seek justice for you”

After saying that, Jackson left the room in a stride.

Serenity remained as still as a statue until Jackson’s figure disappeared from her view. Only then did she lift her hand in a trance and touch her face, feeling the lingering warmth of his touch earlier.
