Chapter 198
The Beginning Of All Sins
Oliviaâs heart raced. Since Claude knew about her and Tyler, Sophie mustâve found out too.
She wondered how she would be receivedâwith disdain, disgust, or worse?
Lost in her thoughts, she hesitated. However, as Sophie was about to hang up, she made the decision to answer. She knew all too well that confronting this situation was inevitable sooner or later. There was no way that she could escape.
Olivia braced herself and answered, her voice hoarse, âHello, Soof.â
To her surprise, Sophieâs tone was not what she had expected. âOlivia! Why did you quit school? Iâve been trying to reach you for days! Is everything alright?â
Surprised yet relieved that Sophie wasnât asking about her marriage to Tyler, Olivia felt a weight lift from her shoulders. âI⦠havenât been feeling well. I need some time to rest.â
Could it be that Sophie didnât know? Did Claude not tell her?
Concerned, Sophie persisted, âWhatâs wrong? Is it serious? Iâll come over right away.â
Olivia quickly reassured her, âNo, Iâm fine. I just need to rest at home for a while.â
âOkay. Let me know when youâre feeling better,â Sophie said, sensing that Olivia didnât want her to probe further.
âMmâhmm. And please inform our classmates for me,â Olivia added.
âSure, I will,â Sophie replied.
With thoughts still weighing on her mind, Olivia kept her conversation with Sophie brief and ended the call. After a moment of hesitation, she resolved to call Claude.
After a few rings, Claude finally answered, his tone distant. âWho is this?â
Olivia tightened her grip on her phone, feeling the aloofness in his voice. She wanted to hang up, but she managed to say, âItâs me, Claude.â
Naturally, he wasnât smiling. He wasnât happy to get a call from her.
He asked, âHowâs married life? Are you happy? Itâs quite the shock you married your sisterâs former fiance. How does that feel? Do you see him as your husband, or do you think of him as your sisterâs past lover?â
Olivia felt choked by his harsh words. She closed her eyes, letting his words wound her in silence.
Claude waited almost two minutes for her to reply before stating, âIf you have nothing to say, Iâm hanging up.â
âClaude!â
