Chapter 247
The Beginning Of All Sins
Tyler closed the document. âWeâre family. You donât have to be so courteous,â he said flatly.
Michael sounded moved. âAre you free today? Iâd really like to come over.â
âIâm a bit busy right now. Letâs catch up another time, Mr. Michael.â
How would Michael dare to disagree with him? He replied, âIâm free whenever you are.â
Tyler responded briefly before ending the call and handing the phone to Linda. âWhen is the bidding happening this time?â
âTomorrow. Thatâs why Michael was calling,â Linda informed him.
Tyler was quiet for a moment, then asked, âDid we get Averie Coâs bid for this year?â
âItâs been sent to the branch office.â
Tyler didnât comment further. Later, as he walked through Pinnacle Groupâs office, even the senior managers and the company president, Miles Cooper, were there to meet him.
Miles kept talking about the companyâs profits, giving him a tour and sharing their goals for the year.
Tyler seldom visited, only doing an annual checkâup.
âTomorrowâs the public bidding,â Miles mentioned. âYou know Averie Co., right? Theyâve been supplying us, but weâre thinking of making it exclusive this year. Their bid is the best weâve received, and theyâre fully committed.â
After saying this, Miles gestured to his secretary, who brought over the bid document for Tyler to see.
âHave a look. Theyâre considered family.â
Miles was all smiles as he said this.
Tyler took the document and flipped through it. The room went silent, and everyone became anxious as they listened to the sound of the pages turning.
Tyler looked unimpressed. He turned to Miles and said, âOkay, not bad. Harris Group will decide on the bidder this time. Weâll see how it goes.â
Milesâs smile stiffened. He was confused as the branch usually made these decisions on its ownâ¦
Tyler glanced at him. âDo you have any questions?â
âNo, of course not. Your decision is final,â Miles quickly replied. âAverie Co. is a good choice, Mr. Tyler.â
Miles tried to assure himself he had made the right move, considering the ties between Michaelâs youngest daughter and the Rees family, and how the Reeses and Harrises were connected.
After all, thereâs a saying about keeping benefits within the family, right?
Tyler didnât respond to him.
