Chapter 220
Divorce Time
Chapter 220 Charlene and Dalton werenât exactly sworn enemies. They just had a bit of a disagreement, and Charlene wasnât one to back down when she knew she was right. But since Abelard had personally stepped in, she figured she could let it slide this time.
âCharlene, donât rush your decision,â Abelard said gently over the phone. âTake your time, and let me know when youâre ready.â
âAlright,â Charlene replied.
âAnd about Dalton,â Abelard went on, âjust go with what feels right to you. Donât stress about owing me any favors.â
âI understand,â she assured him.
Abelard chuckled, appreciating her honesty. âAlright then, I wonât keep you any longer. Letâs catch up another time.â
âSure thing. Goodbye.â
After hanging up, Charlene pondered for a moment before calling Kenton. It took him a good half hour to get back to her.
âWhatâs up?â he asked.
Charlene clued him in on what was going on. Kenton quickly chimed in, âAbelard doesnât just do favors for anyone. You might want to think this over.â
Charlene nodded at the phone, feeling reassured by Kentonâs perspective. âGot it. Thanks, Kenton.â
âAnytime.â
With that, Kenton ended the call. Charlene didnât call Abelard back until the next morning. She figured Abelard knew sheâd consult Kenton before making a decision.
When Charlene finally called back, Abelardâs voice was warm. âThank you for getting back to me, Charlene.â
âNo problem at all.â
After they hung up, Abelard sighed contently. His colleague noticed and chuckled, âMr. Ramirez, whatâs on your mind?â
Abelard settled into his chair. âJust thinking I wouldnât mind having a daughter.â
âAt our age? Donât put your wife through that. Youâve got a son whoâs old enough to start a family. You should be thinking about daughtersâinâlaw instead.â
Abelard sighed again, âIf only my son were a bit more proactive.â
Later that day, Dalton showed up at PrimeStar. Charlene had already briefed Stewart about Abelardâs involvement.
When Dalton arrived, Stewart kept him waiting for over an hour before finally meeting with him. Daltonâs intent to work with their company was clear; his new proposal was even better than the last. But Stewartâs demeanor remained cool. âLooking forward to working together,â he said, shaking Daltonâs hand.
âLikewise,â Dalton replied. He wasnât particularly fond of Charlene, but he had no issues with Stewart.
âHow about dinner to discuss the details?â Dalton suggested. âCharlene will be joining us, right? Hope thatâs not a problem.â
Dalton assumed Stewartâs willingness to collaborate was due to Abelard reaching out to Kenton, who then spoke to Stewart. He couldnât care less about Charlene. Despite his personal feelings, he was willing to set them aside for the sake of business.
00.30 Chapter 22 âThatâs fine by me, as long as Ms. Ross is okay with it,â Dalton replied.
Stewart nodded, sending someone to fetch Charlene. When she arrived, Dalton expected her to be upset or at least irritated. But Charlene was calm, extending her hand with a composed smile. âLooking forward to working together.â
