Chapter 296
Divorce Time
Chapter 296 The next morning.
After finishing her breakfast, Charlene went upstairs to find Jasmine on a video call with Thorne.
Spotting her mom, Jasmine looked up and shouted, âMom!â
âHey,â Charlene replied, turning on her computer.
On the other end of the call, Thorne asked, âWhatâs the plan for today?â
Jasmine, sprawled out on the bed, beamed with excitement. âI want to watch a movie! Momâs taking me to see a movie at noon!â
Charlene was engrossed in reviewing the notes sheâd organized the day before.
A moment later, Jasmine came over with the phone. âMom, Dad wants to talk to you.â
Charlene paused, took the phone, and glanced at Thorneâs face on the screen. She wasnât interested in a video chat, so she placed the phone face up on the desk, pointing the camera toward the ceiling. âWhatâs up?â
Thorne said, âI appreciate you taking care of Minnie for a while.â
Charlene didnât reply, her eyes still fixed on her computer. She typed away, filling in the gaps from yesterdayâs brainstorming session, and asked, âAnything else?â
âNo,â Thorne replied, then added, âHappy New Year.â
Charlene mumbled an acknowledgment and ended the call, handing the phone back to Jasmine.
As it neared noon and Charlene was about to take Jasmine out, her phone rang. It was Stewart.
She chuckled and answered, only to hear Stewartâs hushed voice, âGuess who I just ran into again?â
Charlene paused, immediately knowing who he was referring to.
Before she could respond, Stewart saw Thorne and Vesta approaching and looking in his direction.
Stewart sighed, âWell, theyâre coming over. Gotta go.â
âAlright,â Charlene replied calmly.
Barely had she hung up when Thorne and Vesta reached Stewart.
âMr. Ferguson, off somewhere?â Thorne inquired.
Stewart didnât reply directly, instead offering a thin smile. âMr. Henderson, Ms. Hawkins, weâre not that close. Next time you see me, feel free to pretend you didnât.â
Vesta chuckled, âMr. Ferguson, you really are amusing.â
Stewart was about to retort when Vesta noticed his suitcase. âHeading abroad for a vacation, Mr. Ferguson?â
Stewart gave a dry laugh. âSorry, none of your business.â
With that, he didnât wait for another word, rolling his suitcase out of the VIP lounge at the airport.
Once heâd put some distance between them, Stewart called Charlene again. âWhatâre you up to?â
Charlene had just changed her clothes and replied, âGetting ready to head out for a movie.â
âSounds like a good plan. Going by yourself?â he asked.
âWith Minnie.â
Stewart paused, âI thought she was spending the holiday with the Hendersons? How come sheâs with you now?â
1/2 09:55 Charlene applied the finishing touches to her makeup, replying coolly, âThey dropped her off last night.â
Stewart hadnât expected that, and he laughed in disbelief. âSo Thorneâs off on a little getaway with Vesta, huh? And they didnât want their daughter tagging along, so they just sent her your way? Unbelievable.â
Charlene listened without much reaction.
Just then, Jasmine came over, tugging at Charleneâs hand excitedly, âMom, Iâm ready. Letâs go!â
âOkay,â Charlene said, then added to Stewart, âDonât worry about them. Just enjoy yourself.â
âYeah, yeah, I will,â Stewart muttered, then assured her, âIâll be back soon, I wonât leave the company all on your shoulders.â
Charlene smiled, âSounds good.â
