Her refusal was quick and decisive, leaving a brief silence on the other end.
Charlene asked, âMr. Harden?â
âFine, Iâll send you the contact details for the garage shortly.â
âThanks, appreciate it.â
Granger didnât respond, simply ending the call.
With her foot injured, Charlene couldnât pick up her car. After some thought, she decided to ask Stewart for help.
Stewart agreed to bring her car back once he finished his commitments.
That evening, after ordering pizza for dinner, Charlene received a call from Jasmine, inquiring when sheâd come home.
Charlene explained straightforwardly, âSweetie, I sprained my ankle, and itâs difficult to walk, so Iâm staying out to recover. You should head to bed early.â
Jasmine was immediately worried when she heard about the injury. âWhat? Mommy, you hurt your ankle? Is it really bad? Does it hurt?â
âIt hurts, but itâs not severe. Iâll be better in a few days.â
âOkay.â
Reassured by Charleneâs words, Jasmine still wanted to ensure she was okay, âSo, where are you staying? Weâll find time to visit you tomorrow when Dad gets home.â
Charlene quickly dismissed the idea. âNo need. I can take care of myself. Just focus on your studies.â
âOkay then...â
After a bit more chatting, they ended the call.
Later, Thorne returned home.
Upon seeing him, Jasmine said, âDad,â and before Thorne could even respond, she hurriedly added, âDad, Mommy hurt her ankle and is currently recuperating outside!â
Thorne acknowledged with a âHmm.â He took off his highâquality suit jacket, handed it to the housekeeper, and mentioned, âI know.â
âOh?â Jasmine looked up, surprised. âDad, how did you know? Did Mommy tell you?â
Settling down and accepting a glass of water from Latonia, Thorne replied, âNo, but I saw it with my own eyes.
âSaw it?â Jasmine paused, âYou were there when Mommy got hurt?â
âYes.â
Jasmine seemed to remember something, âOh, right, Mommy works at Dadâs company, so Dad saw it when she got hurt, right?â
âNot exactly,â Thorneâs tone was indifferent. âMom doesnât work at my company anymore.â
âWhat?â Jasmine looked up, puzzled, âSo, where does Mommy work now?â
âAt a place she likes.â
Oh...â
08:37 hapter 78 After finishing his water, Thorne stood up, ruffled Jasmineâs hair, and advised, âGet some rest early.â
Jasmine acknowledged, âOkay.â
Around 8 pm, Stewart returned with Charleneâs car.
While taking over the keys, Charlene asked, âHow much was the repair bill?â
She implied she wanted to reimburse him.
*Taking a seat on the couch, Stewart responded, âHow would I know?â
âHuh?â Charlene was puzzled. âHow did you pick up the car without paying?â
âNo one asked me for payment. The workers let me take the car when they heard it was yours.â
Charlene paused, realizing.
So, had Granger taken care of the bill on her behalf? That was unexpected.
âWhatâs wrong?â Stewart noticed her changed expression.
Charlene shook her head. âNothing.â
âThen letâs get to the homework so I can go home and rest. Itâs been a long day. Iâm beat!â
By homework, he meant the exhibition review assignment Kenton had given them that morning. âSure,â Charlene agreed but added, âLet me make a quick call.â
âAlright.â
Charlene casually dialed Granger.
He answered almost instantly, âHello?â
âMr. Harden, itâs me, Charlene.â
Granger: âI know. Whatâs up?â
Charlene went straight to the point. âAbout the car, Iâve got it back. Did you cover the repair expenses? If so, how much was it?
Iâll transfer the money to you now.â
