Matt

It's once again Monday morning. It's 8am. Rita is plugging away. No sign of Lily. Ten o'clock rolls around. I still don't catch a glimpse of her ginger locks from my office.

"Rita, did she show up today?"

"I haven't seen her. She never checked in."

Another hour goes by. Now I'm actually concerned.

I give her phone a ring.

I leave a voicemail. "Ms. Bonner you never clocked in."

Three hours go by. This is a little ridiculous. I ring her again. Voicemail again.

"Lily, consider yourself fired."

Still silence from her by 5pm. I get a text back at 6.

Lily: Sorry. I was at the emergency room. I had an ovarian cyst rupture. Thanks for the opportunity anyways.

Insert foot in my mouth.

I should have known better. Though I had only known Lily a little over a week, she had been reliable up until this point.

Matt: Lily, I wasn't made aware. You still have a job if you want it.

Lily: No thanks.

That's it. All she sends. Nothing else.

I know I screwed up. I rarely admit my downfalls, but this was not right. I know she was in the hospital. Now I had to figure out which one. I needed to make it right.

"Rita, call around to the hospitals and see which one Lily is at."

"Okay, it might take me a bit, Mr Bonner."

"Okay, that's fine."

I get another text not much later. False hope. It's no Lily.

Eric: You know Lily is in the hospital.

Matt: I just became aware. How did you know?

Eric: She told me. I was going to take her to lunch on her lunch break to apologize.

Matt: Oh, I see. What hospital is she at?

Eric: Sinai. Room 304

Matt: Kk

Eric: Later man.

I hated that Lily was in the hospital, but it did prevent Eric from making another move. That sounds horrible. My plan with them, might have back fired.

"Rita, order a dozen yellow roses and have them sent to room 304 at Sinai Hospital.

"What should the card say?"

"Lily, feel better soon. See you at work when you're better. Sincerely, Matt Bonner."

"Okay, I'm on it."
