Matt Bonner
The Light That Shines Within(Sneak Peek)
I was running late Monday morning. It was none of anyone's business. Truthfully though, my one night stand from the previous night had been a stage 5 clinger this morning. She was so hot. Hot but stupid as a box of rocks. The best kind. It was such an asshole move. One and done. Use them and lose them. That's the way I ran my private life. They got the hopes of being with the rich Matt Bonner. I got the goodies. It sounds horrible but you could never tell who was there for the money. If you never let the opportunity arise for that to happen, then it's easier.
Bonner Enterprises has been handed down three generations. To compete in NYC is a rat race. I had all the credentials on paper. Business degree from Yale. I just wasn't so interested in business. I loved interacting with people but all the legal crap of taking over businesses and restructuring them to be successful was mind boggling. Not my cup of tea(reality- my swig of beer.).
I strolled into the building, noticing the long line of applicants waiting in the lobby. I was totally forgetting about today's interviews for the job opening. Normally, I would have HR handle these kind of things. However, this was to be the assistant to my personal assistant and I needed a reliable back up person. The last few that were hired had been horrible. I was tired of handling their mess ups.
I got settled into my office and started with the stream of applicants. One boring schmuck after the next. The guys cared about the pay. The girls didn't seem to be keen on the work aspect. It's a huge city, but it was feeling a tad bit like a fish pond.
"I have to take a break before my head explodes, Rita."
Rita had been my assistant for ten years. She was amazing. Middle aged lady with grown kids. She had a long marriage to a successful man. I didn't challenge her intentions. She gave the best advice and had such a nurturing personality. She reminded of the little old librarians you see in cartoons or movies. She was like that minus the grouchiness.
"Why don't you take your video conference call to Japan, before it gets too late. That will give you a bit of a break."
"Great. Give me an hour."
