chapter 13: Surprise visit

Kaino's POV

"Are you really fine? I mean can you still go to work? Why don't you take a leave for today?" Parker queries me in concern when I wash up and put on my clothes as I get ready for work.

"I'm fine now, Parker." I tell him and move away from the mirror before taking one last glance at myself.

"Okay, but if you ever feel bad, just come back home." He says and I nod with a smile.

After that we both make our way out of the room and walk to the dining table to eat breakfast. Parker woke up before me and prepared breakfast for us. After which he took a bathe as today he's going to office. When he was almost done, that was when I woke up and as it's almost time for work, I took a quick shower and got ready. Because of my yesterday's condition Parker is suggesting me to stay at home but I feel otherwise. If I stay here, I keep thinking about unnecessary things. But when I go to hospital I'll get busy with work and no time to think. So, I better go instead of being here also I'm really fine now.

"You start eating, I'll feed pup and get back." He states after serving the food to me.

While he goes to feed pup, I wait until he gets back. I don't like eating alone, at least not when I know someone is with me. He'll be here in few minutes so I could wait until he returns. As I sit, I think back to what happened yesterday. I must have gone nuts for thinking about telling Parker what I was feeling. That would lead to a disaster, good thing I controlled myself before I blurted it out.

However, there's another thing that's bugging me now. Yesterday night, when we laid on the bed to sleep Parker held me ever so gently as he tried to make me feel good and that really moved me. It's that good nature of him that I can't help but fall for him more. But that isn't what's troubling me. What's troubling me is something I thought I heard him say but I'm not sure. I was almost asleep so I can't guarantee anything but I heard words like I love you. Of course, it might be just me having some weird dreams in my sleep and Parker wouldn't even say love words to me.

"What are you thinking? And why you didn't eat? I told you to eat, didn't I?" Parker calls out as he gets back.

I stop my thoughts and look at him when I hear his voice to find him standing beside me with hands on his hips as he's scolding me. I let out a small chuckle because though he's scolding, he just looks so cute and adorable instead of looking scary.

"Why are you laughing?" He pouts with a huff before sitting on the chair beside mine.

This time rather than a chuckle I laugh loudly. He's being too cute to handle.

"Kaino." He whines as he calls me so I control my laugh.

"Okay, sorry I won't laugh anymore." I tell him and take a minute to stop laughing, "I'm waiting for you to get back, that's why I didn't start eating yet."

"Oh! Let's eat then, now that I'm here." He says and I nod before we eat our breakfast.

It doesn't take long as we eat quickly. After eating, we wash up the plates and clean everything before we get ready to leave. Parker leaves some food and water for pup so that he won't starve until one of us returns.

"Should I drop you at the company?" I query Parker because we have only one car and I have been using it.

"Umm..that's..no need, Kaino. Father said he will send a driver." He replies nervously, maybe feelings bad for rejection my offer.

"It's fine, Parker. No problem." I state and we hear the horn. I watch through the window to find a new car waiting in front of the house, "it's here, I guess. It must be the one father said about. I'll get going then."

As the car is already here to pick him up, I decide to leave. What was I even thinking? He wouldn't need me for each and everything. I shake my head as I get rid of bad ideas and grab my bag from the couch. I take one last glance at Parker who's still standing in his place and I make my way out. But before I could leave, hands wrap from my waist as a sudden force falls on my back. I turn my head and slightly see Parker who hug me.

"Parker, what's wrong?" I question as I turn around in his hands as he doesn't let me go.

"Nothing. I just wanted some encouragement before I attend first day at office." He mumbles on my chest.

"Don't worry, Parker, everything is going to be fine." I assure him as I pat his back.

I go to separate but he tightens the hold so I stay like that until he would let go. I resist my hardest to not hug him back but I fail at the end. On instinct my hands wrap around his thin waist as I lay my head on his shoulder and let out a content sigh. I don't know for how long we stayed like that but we pull away when we hear pup barking at us. And again Parker pouts at pup while I shake my head at them with a playful smile.

"I know you'll do well at work. Just be calm and relaxed all the time. If you feel anything is going out of hand, call me and I'll come to you immediately." I tell him to which he nods at me.

I bid him goodbye and with one last look at him, I leave the house. I get in the car and pull away from our house as I drive straight to the hospital. After a while when I reach the hospital, I park the car in my allotted place where I have been parking since the time I joined here. I turn off the engine and grab my things before getting down the car and walking inside. All the way to my cabin, number of people, both doctors and staff, greet me good morning to which I respond to them the same with a smile.

I reach my small cabin and settle the things in it's place before I put on my doctor coat and start my work. For the first few hours until lunch my work is to take rounds all over our department and see how the patients are. I have a nurse who follows me around and list downs every point I tell her regarding each patient. This has been my work for continuous three hours and once the rounds have been done, I plop down in the chair in my cabin feeling tired. It was hectic.

"Kaino, are you done with the rounds?" Asks Lee, one of my colleague as he walks into my cabin.

"Yeah, just now." I tell him and take off my coat.

"Good, let's go then. The others are waiting for us." He states and I nod at him.

We're a group of six people who have same time schedule so from the beginning we got closer to each other and are always together. These are also the people with whom I went to Japan for the trip. But that team has people from different departments as well and from our department it was us. I really found good friends in them.

"You guys get going, I'll just get cleaned and be there in few minutes." I say and he leaves with a nod.

I walk to the bathroom and clean my hands before drying them. Feeling a bit better, I leave my room and head to the canteen. As I walk past the reception, the lady over there calls my name.

"Dr. Kaino." I stop my steps and turn to her.

"Someone is here to meet you, waiting in the lobby for you." She tells me.

I frown as I don't remember giving appointment to anyone but still I thank her before I walk to the lobby. As I open the door and step inside, I see familiar figure sitting on the couch.

"Parker." I call out, totally surprised seeing him here.

"Kaino." He smiles at me as he gets up and walks to me.

"What brought you here? Is everything alright?" I ask him worriedly.

He never came to visit me before infact he never even called me during work so suddenly seeing him here is really shocking me. And at the same time scaring me.

"Everything is fine, Kaino. I finished my work for the day and was going home. The hospital is on the way back home and it's time for lunch so I thought I'll stop by and eat together with you." He replies nervously, "sorry I didn't ask you before. I should have called you but I thought it would be fine. I'm really sorry, Kaino. I'll just get going."

He says hurriedly and goes to leave but I stop him by holding his wrist.

"Come here," I pull him to stand in front me and hold his face in my hands as I make me look at me, "I never said you shouldn't come here or that you should inform me before and take my permission. I was scared for a moment thinking maybe something is wrong. But when you said you're here because you wanted to eat with me, I felt so happy. It's totally surprising and I'm really happy."

"So, you have no problem with me being here?" He still queries doubtfully.

"No, rather I'm happy. I would love to eat with you." I confirm with a smile.

"Okay." He agrees returning my smile.

"So, is it fine to eat in canteen or you want to go out?" I ask him because I don't know if he can eat in canteen.

"Here is fine." He states and I nod.

"Let's go then." I let go of his face and grab his hand in mine as I walk him out of the lobby and take him towards the canteen.

We take the elevator to the ground floor where the canteen is located and step out when it dings, indicating that we reached our destination. We share a look and exchange a smile as I lead him to where our table is. Once I reach the table where I usually sit with my friends, I find it already occupied with my group of mates. There are still three empty seats though. When they feel our presence, they all took up at us in surprise.

"The heck! Kaino, you brought your husband to eat?" One of the guy comments as he chokes on the water that he drank just before.

"Hey, guys you all already know this is my husband Parker. He's here today to have lunch with me, hope you all don't mind him joining us." I say not bothering to reply anything to the earlier comment.

"Of course, Kaino. No problem, come on let's eat." They agree so Parker and I take our seats.

"We didn't know your husband would come, so we only brought lunch for you." Lee says as there's only one plate and that's for me.

"It's okay, I'll bring one for Parker." I state and turn to Parker, "I'll be back in a minute with your food, okay?"

When he nods at me, I get up and leave to bring his food but not before hearing the howls and teasing voices from my table. I chuckle as I shake my head at my friends while I just continue to walk. Hopefully, this will turn out good.
