Chapter 13

Pack's Runt

Chapter 13

I woke up in the middle of the night when it was all silent and dead inside the house. Glancing to my right, I found Angel snoring under the sheets and another girl sleeping right next to her.

My headache was nearly gone and for a moment, I felt safe till I shifted around and slipped my hands underneath my ears, hoping to stay asleep for longer. But my eyes clicked wide open when I felt my wrists bare.

The bracelet.

It was gone.

I sat up straight while my hands spread under the pillows and all over the bed while I silently prayed to myself I hadn't lost it. But I had. It was gone.

Fuck.

I groaned and slapped my hand over my head whilst getting off the bed and on my feet. I remembered feeling it the whole day yesterday but after I returned from the graveyard, I didn't recall seeing it on my hand.

I must've dropped it there while—all that was happening.

"No, no..." My hands went underneath the sheets, fingers searching every inch of the bed as my heart began to pound hard against my chest. The bracelet was the last thing I wanted to lose. And I had. Again.

I tossed the pillows down to the ground and when there was no avail, I stood up straight with one hand over my hip and the other one against my head. What was I going to do? Looking over at Angel, I found her asleep and it was still late to run.

But the perfect time. No one would know.

I could go to the graveyard and come back before the sun would rise. It was a dangerous idea, but the only one that crossed my mind.

It got quiet in my mind as I looked into the closet to find a coat or jacket for myself. Most of the clothes inside Angel's closet were either lingeries or night wear, but to the end, I found a long black coat. Before any more time passed, I buttoned it up and tied my shoes before heading out of the room quietly.

I took every step with caution while looking left and right at the same time. There was no one awake. No one. All the girls were sleeping. When I reached downstairs, I looked if the Madame was awake, and to my luck, she wasn't. The house still reeked of alcohol and sex.

When I stepped out, cold wind brushed over me and I shivered while wrapping my arms around myself and realizing I didn't even know where to look.

While biting the inside of my cheek, I tried hard to remember the route to the graveyard. It was a long one and without a car, it was going to be even more longer.

Crap.

Steady breaths, April. I told myself while heading outside and further away from the whorehouse.

The sky was fairly clear with only a few scattered clouds, but the streets were slightly wet from the rain which must've happened earlier, after I had returned and maybe when I was asleep.

My mother was still quite young when she died. It was an unusual sickness that took her away and she knew about it months before she went. Our family was one for as long as she lived. She also knew what would happen after her death and gave me one of her bracelets.

It was an antique piece, holding value in our world. It was something she wanted me to have in case I was hopeless and there were times where I was, entirely hopeless, but even then I didn't sell the bracelet. I couldn't. It was all that mattered to me.

She wore it last before giving it to me.

It was a long time later till I reached the graveyard. I could only find it as I remembered the two long residential buildings beside it which I had seen earlier, when the Alpha was taking me here.

The Alpha.

My eyes went tight. I shook away the uncanny thought of him at this time of the night and wondered if I could run away from here. No one would know. I reached this far without anyone seeing me or coming for me. But where would I go? Without my pack, I would be truly eaten up alive like a little mouse.

I searched around the graveyard while shrills ran down my spine in fear of seeing dead spirits and other souls that belonged here. But the bracelet was far more important than my fear.

"Come on," I sat down on the ground near to the empty grave that had been dug up earlier by the Alpha. Forgetting that I was minutes away from my death, I ran my hands through the dirt and grass, searching for the bracelet. "Where is it?" I whispered while looking close.

There wasn't much I could see at this time of the night.

I spent a couple more minutes on the ground, searching everywhere before I realized it wasn't here. Where else could it be? When I stood back up, I brushed the dirt off the coat and turned to go to the opposite side of the open grave, hoping it would be there.

I pushed my hair behind my ear and kneeled down again. My hand hovered over the ground while my shoes dug in.

"If you wanted to die—" Footsteps reached me before I saw a pair of shoes just inches away my hand. "You could've spared all the drama." The Alpha said, his voice now recognizable.

My heart drummed in my throat. I swallowed hard and with hesitation, I glanced up at him. He stood tall under the moonlight. His face was stained with danger and his eyes threatening when I looked into them.

How?

I moved back in fear as it wrapped around me, "I—I lost something..." I said, my words stumbling over one and another. "I was just looking for it. I wasn't—I wasn't running away or anything."

"And do you think I'm going to believe that?" He asked, raising a brow at me before looking straight ahead. "Get up."

I scrambled back up on my feet while my chest became tight. The frown on his face deepened. Cold wind rolled over us. I swallowed again, unable to keep my quivering nerves at bay. How could he have possibly found me? I made sure there was no one and there was no one.

I pursed my lips as he began walking away from the graveyard and back outside. Quietly, I followed him before he had the chance to forcibly take me. Fear consumed my thoughts. I forgot about the bracelet and everything else and only wondered what was going to happen to me.

When I reached outside, I found a car parked just near to the gates of the graveyard. It was a different car.

Smaller.

"Get in the car." He said before getting inside himself.
