Chapter 31
Pack's Runt
Chapter 31
In a span of a few minutes, most of the girls from the whorehouse were gathered in the living while the men were asked to leave. The night had been over for them. I didn't know how long I had been sleeping for, or when Nicholas returned from whatever fight he had been doing, but it had been a while.
None of the girls had any knowledge about Gerald, or even any other pack's wolves. They were clueless about it all.
Nicholas tried again, speaking with Sheryl instead of the girls. "Ask them again. They surely know something. Whatever information it was, those wolves received it from here. No one else knows about her."
"I asked them, they don't know." Sheryl responded, shaking her head.
The girls had their eyes on me. Some of them were familiar while I didn't know about the others. The atmosphere of the house chilled as Nicholas decided to threaten the girls.
"If I dare to find out it's any of youâ"
"Don't scare them." Sheryl cut him off before he could finish.
It wasn't the wisest decision to scare these girls. They took Nicholas as their Alpha, and his threats as serious as they could.
"I'll do whatever I want to the force the truth out of them." He turned to her and said, a hint of rage in his tone now.
"What does it matter? Whoever was here, they are gone. Just up your security or something." Sheryl sounded fumed as well. It was her livelihood, and the livelihood of the other girls.
"Don't tell me what to do," His chest rumbled, eyes turning a shade of red. Sheryl stepped back in caution while watching his anger surface. "It matters to me. Don't forget, I gave you this position and that's how easily I can take it from you."
I tried not to act surprised at the knowledge of Nicholas' part in this Sheryl's business, but it was certainly something new. The rumors weren't too far from being the truth.
It became silent in the house again, this time even far more quieter.
"For her?" Sheryl asked, her eyes lined with his while one of her brows rose.
"For her."
I watched as Nicholas' demeanour shifted in a span of a few seconds. My heart throbbed in my chest as one side of my lip curled at the sound of his voice taking possession of me as no man had ever. The air stiffened as Nicholas stepped back and away from her. Before he had the chance to turn to me, one of the girls stepped forward, with information.
"I know something..." she trailed off, catching all our attention at the same time.
The other girls were immediately sent away to their rooms, and the one who had came forward remained with Sheryl by her side.
"What do you know?" Nicholas demanded, as if he was going to be answered right away with his stiff, arrogant tone.
"I just don't want to be in any trouble." Her eyes rushed all over as panic settled over her face.
"You'll not be in any trouble, Izz. Tell us what you know. Have you been in contact with any other pack's wolves?" Sheryl asked her instead, her voice far more comforting.
The girl hesitated for a moment longer before telling the truth. I stood by the side, curious to know how my brother had received information about me even after he was told by Nicholas that there was no woman like me who entered this town.
"There was a man who came here during the time she was here," She glanced into my direction and continued. "And he came again a few days later but by then, she was gone. He confessed as I pleasured him that he had seen her and taken a picture of her before sending it around his friends, and some of his friends wondered whether she was still here, and if she was working," She flicked her eyes to me and then back to Nicholas. "I told him then that she had left."
"What picture?" Nicholas asked, his shoulders stiffening even more.
"I've it on my phone. He sent it to me soon after so I could keep an eye if she ever returned."
"Get your phone."
The girl stepped away and rushed upstairs. Nicholas turned around, away from me and Sheryl while I wondered about what the girl had told. How could it even be possible? I was wide-awake most of the time. I would've known if someone snapped a picture of me and none of the men even saw me during the time I was here. They only saw me with their Alpha as he was taking me away.
And how could it have even reached Gerald? How many times was my picture shared around to reach him? I ran my hand through my hair while waiting near the staircase for the girl to come down.
As soon as she did, she handed her phone to Nicholas and he saw the picture. His teeth clenched, jaw tightening as he gave her phone back. My heart raced at his reaction. When was it of?
Before I had the chance to even see the picture, Nicholas wrapped his hand around my wrist and took me out of the house.
"I want to see it. Who was it?" I asked, demanding to know. The thought that someone had taken a picture of me and send it around to others made me feel exposed and vulnerable.
He gave my wrist a tight squeeze before opening the car door for me. Turning around, I pressed my back against the car and looked at him. His eyes were intense and flooded with rage.
"Get in the car. You don't need to see it," His nostrils flared as he began admitting. "It was one of my men. I'll deal with him myself. You don't have to worry about it."
"You're going to kill him?" I asked, holding my breath back.
It was just a picture, no one needed to die for it and Gerald was already gone. He hadn't figured out anything.
"What I do with him is none of your business, unless you want to see what I do with him. Do you?" His hand planted on the roof of the car as he trapped me in the small space.
My chest rose and dropped at his growing anger and the determination in his eyes. The tension between us tightened as he waited for my answer. He was serious about it, about seeing him as he killed someone who had done something wrong to me.
"I don'tâyes." I nodded.
He smiled warmly and stepped back. I slipped into the car, sitting down before he slammed the door shut and came on the driver's seat. My heart jumped as the engine roared.
What did I even agree to?
